Tell me, would you consider Travis Cloke a force in any forward line?

Ofcourse you would. Yet despite the fact that Roughead kicked more goals than Cloke in 07, he's still 'hardly impressive'.

Oh that's right, Cloke supposedly does more 'around the ground'.

Remind me again what is the primary objective of any forward?

I probably would, yes, along with the majority of posters on this forum. I don't think that majority would consider Roughead a force though.
You're fighting a losing battle if you think anyone wouldn't have Cloke in their forward line before Roughy, or if you are attempting to compare them.
Roughead plays FF, he should average more goals then Cloke, that is hardly any surprise. Roughead averages .2 more goals a game then Cloke, not really ground breaking is it?
Where as Cloke averages an extra 6 disposals and an extra 4 marks a game.

That is an extremely narrow description of a forwards job, and I certainly wouldn't say Travis Clokes job as a CHF for us is solely focused on kicking goals. It isn't as if they extra possessions he accumulates count for nothing, usually those 6 extra disposals result in 6 extra I50's for us.

Roughys 1.8 goals, 9.2 disposals and 3.5 marks a game is as I said, 'hardly impressive'.
Clokes 1.6 goals, 14.5 disposals and 7.5 marks a match I would consider to be a lot more influential.
That isn't taking into accounts stats like entries into the 50 etc, which I'm sure would continue to put Cloke in a brighter light, so it is probably better for you if I don't.

Tredrea is past it. Sad to see him struggling last year. Missed his game last week. Dominated at CHF for years, but his time is almost up. Rodan was a good recruit, but only received attention because he was delisted the year before, and from Richmond at that! Westoff looks good, but is still inconsistent. I remember his embarrassing GF performance vividly. Shaun Burgoyne is classy. Motlop can do freakish things and thats about it. Average forward line. Around 6-9th.

Clearly.

I didn't name their squad... That is straight from their official round 1 line up :)

Technically that may be the official round 1 line up but that's not what took the field last thursday.

Even this weekends line up won't take the field like it's named.

Half forwards – Ryan Houlihan, Brad Fisher, Nick Stevens
Forwards – Shaun Hampson, Brendan Fevola, Eddie Betts

Hampson will probably start in the middle with Stevens. And I would imagine Murphy and Edwards would start up forward.

Still it may not be the best but can kick some pretty high scores.

St. Kilda on the other hand I think have quite a disappointing output from what seems to be a highly rated forward line. Especially when they are considered to have such a quality midfield giving top level supply.

I think the saints would be better off with Kosi in the ruck especially when Gehrig is playing as he can cover a lot of ground and provide a better contest compared to King and Gardiner.

Tredrea played exactly like he did in the GF. Tried, worked really hard, but the fact is he is well and truly past his best.

He took 7 marks, 1 of which I believe was in the forward 50, kicked a mesely 2 goals, and had the vast majority of his possessions away from goal. He was average at best.

Such is the situation teams now play their best defenders on Westhoff as demonstrated in the finals last year and Round 1.

Fremantle

HF: Peake - Pavlich - Headland

F: Farmer - Tarrant - Solomon

St Kilda

HF: X. Clarke - Riewoldt - Harvey

F: Milne - Koschitzke - Gehrig
In the words of one Mark Williams. 'YOU WERE WRONG'!!
Good to see that you are still making stupid posts. I guess nothing changes.

How did Tredrea go last week? Loved his dominating years where he made CHF his own. Have my doubts that he can get back to his best.

Tried all night and worked hard, but that's about the extent of it. It is very clear he is well and truly past any remnance of his best.

Port fans will say "oh he had 15 touches and 7 marks and kicked 2 goals". But it was a prime case of how stats can be deceiving. Similar to the GF last year the vast majority of his touches came well up the ground, and of those 7 marks I believe only 1-2 were taken in the forward 50. Wouldn't have been in Ports' best.

Played on Milburn for most of the night, such is the situation now teams opt to play their best backman on Westhoff, as indicated in the finals last season and Round 1.

Oh god! It looks even more pathetic on paper. They are so far away from success that if Carlton fans were to go into acoma for an extended period they wouldnt be missing anything special. Pathetic rabble. When will they come to the realisation that an atrocious losing culture and the no. 1 pick isnt going to bring about recovery to the fledgling club.

I think it's pretty obvious a losing culture isn't going to bring about a recovery, who needs to come to that realisation you goose...

We dont want Tredrea being a one man forward line like Jonathan Brown, the fact is, he was playing at CHF instead of being restricted to the goal square. He will kick 40-50 goals this year, combined with Ebert, Motlop and Westhoff kicking 40-50 goals each will mean that on any given day any of our forwards can kick a bag and tear the opossition a new one. Take into account we probably played on the best defence going around last week, even without Egan. Personally i would rather Tredrea getting 10 marks a game and 18-20 touches, he does that and his 2-6 goals a game will come. He wasn't far off last week, so write the big fella off at your own peril.

The only thing that can be concluded about all this is no one has a dominate forward line they are all distinctly average or have weaknesses. You can only be really drawn towards the forward lines that have super stars in the line up - Riewolt, Brown, Pav. The Cats are well balanced but they are made to look better than they are by a massively good midfield which equals more oppurtunities and quality oppurtunities.

I think there are some very exciting forward lines emerging but not quite there yet. Pies, Hawks, Port all building something dangerous with Bombers not too far behind.

Swans, W/Coast, Adel, Dogs, Roos all with a lot of work to do.

mooney isnt that great imo,
i would rather davey lucas mcphee

So u would rather a second year player, a gun CHF (who is out for 10 weeks) and a half back turned half forward over 3 premiership players, two are All-Australians and ones a B&F winner?

Yes, they are 3 very good players for Essendon but Geelong's half forward line is the best in the comp.
They also have support from Hawkins, Stokes and a resting midfielder such as Ablett, Kelly, Bartel, Gamble or Byrnes.
Not a bad forward line.
Its come a long way since we relied on Kingsley, Playfair, Gardiner and McCarthy to kick goals for us!
