Ahhhh Nup. Short sighted.
By all means they should be part of making a strong football structure in SA but not a "whatever it takes" scenario. It's not all about the AFL.

Ultimately we need to push with other clubs for an AFL reserves comp with the side traveling with the seniors and playing curtain raisers. The SANFL will do for now but I don't see it as a permanent solution

The second-quickest player at the club over 20m behind midfield star Patrick Dangerfield, Osborn kicked a career-best four goals and took six marks against Port playing mainly in attack. He also had four hit-outs.

Bloody hell, he's over 200cm and 100kg and quicker than the majority of our midfield.

I think that is a nightmare for the SANFL and other state leagues.
AFL already washed their hands of a reserves comp leaving it to the VFL to run.
SMA with SANFL members on board to allow a VFL team to play a curtain raiser at AO? Guess the extra fee?

Jenkins was the 2nd quickest over 20 before Ozzy. Tall players can cover a lot of ground quickly due to their giant legs.

Loved Danger's reply a couple of years ago when Rowey asked him about Jenkins being the second quickest player at the club

"Jenkins? If he was driving a car maybe! Or if I gave him a head start.. He's not quick!" :D:D

Can anyone comment on Siggo's game on Sun?

Seemed to be played forward for a good portion of the match. I was only able to watch properly until half time, the a patch in the 3rd quarter.

Adding a string to his bow?

Did ok from what I saw, but not spectacular. Others who saw the 2nd half may have more to say.

With his height, I think we really need him to add a few kegs and become a CHB. Hartigan will be fine as a backup I think but I'd love for Siggo to overtake him.
Of course recruiting an experienced CHB/FB would leave one of them almost redundant

Siggins was encouraging down back, found the ball and made decent decisions with good disposal.

Still not strong enough for a KPP, and plays like a flanker not a tall…personally I'd love to see him on the list next year post another big pre-season but needs a little more aggression at the contest.

I'd almost call him a poor-man's Lever...

doesn't fill you with any confidence one out, but actually has a bit of flair and dash about him when/if he gets his hands on it.
Yep, similar to my impression as well…it's the physical contest that is concerning.

Compare that to Lever who gives the distinct impression he is very physical and will smash the contest once he's big enough.

Good performance but tapered off in the second half.

I'm all for a healthy local competition. Unfortunately, I no longer have an emotional stake in who wins and loses, not since the team i Loved Woodville was forced to merge with the team I hated more than anyone, West Torrens.

That would suck having your team merge with a foe! - I never would've thought West Torrens would have been hated, but that's because I was too young to actually remember them as seperate entities...

Infact, I remember my Mum managing to track down a copy of the 1st Crows' Year Book (complete with Scott Hodges on the front cover) but in 1993 or 1994 - I had collected all of them until then but hadn't got the first. I was going through it and it had all the player bios and I couldn't rack my head around why some players had 'Woodville' as their SANFL team and others had 'West Torrens' - I had a bit of a rage and pointed it out to Mum and said this book is broken and wrong, they're not even calling the Eagles 'Woodville-West Torrens'...

That's when Mum told me about the merge that I had no idea had existed... I guess I was only 8 or 9 and the merge had happened when I was 6 when I wasn't quite aware of it all yet....

You'd think the hypen may have given me a clue....

I'm surprised anyone hated West Torrens. They were that nice harmless club who would make front page news if they finished fourth or had a rare win against the magpies. As for Woodville, apart from one good year under Blight they were a cinderella side whose main claim to fame was producing the odd champion player who always went to the VFL in their prime. Sad to see mergers in some ways but this one did benefit two perennial strugglers.

I would of been 25 at the merger and Port were the enemy to me I guess I lived north of Dean.

A bit like South today, who are a bit like Toronto in the NHL (quite a few uncanny similarities between these two sides too)
