We don't need you to defend and suggest our pick up in Mayne will be "vindicated" when it's clear he isn't in our best 22 and is just about finished as a footballer.
$2m over 4yrs- I can see why you want to vindicate but just stop.

He then goes on to talk about finals and that it is still realistic.
Every time this guy opens his mouth it's so far fetched from reality that it is embarrassing.

Let's hope he has the balls to make the tough call to sack the coach and "speak his mind" then.

Pert and Bucks were mates before he was coach and he just seems a smarmy, corporate lackey. I would like to see him gone as well, to make the appropriate changes to get the club back on track.

There's a hell of a lot of literature you can read on the topic.. Its not as simple as that.

The coach is the leader. The leader is shit.. you can have a group of lions led by a sheep.. you'll find a group of sheep led by a lion will win.

How would the sheep led by the lion kill all the lions led by the sheep? Even with poor leadership I still can't see how a bunch lions could lose to a bunch of well led sheep.

Would work better if it was using more evenly matched animals and both from the predator side of the equation. Like.... an army of cats led by a demented spider monkey will never defeat an army of ferrets led by a polar bear. Makes much more sense when you say it like that.

I think Thomas' comments are spot on. Both Buckley and Harvey, and you can probably throw Burns into that mix also were evidently self- driven, quiet, 'lead-by-example' types as players and forged brilliant individual careers because of it, but they perhaps lacked that likability and/or approachability that great leaders possess, and as coaches I feel it means that ability to motivate, inspire and forge a great bond and trust with the playing group, traits that you see in a Clarkson or a Beveridge or a Malthouse, is severely wanting. Our group just seems like it is crying out for a spark.

I love him as a player, as I loved Bucks and would have loved Harvey if you had have gotten rid of the red on his jumper, but I suspect that our other significant leader - our captain, could be described in the same way.

Yep, this seems to be a very clear aspect of Bucks' coaching career so far; he and his assistants so often seem to be out-coached on game days, because he seems reluctant to make changes to the original game plan. Malthouse on the other hand made small changes very frequently on game day, always ready to adjust things as he saw fit at the time.

This is pretty revisionist. Backing in your players and system was a Mick philosophy. One of the big criticisms of Mick was that he didn't make game day changes. Personally, I think it was a strength, as it resulted in all our players knowing what to do with the ball and where to run. If you are trying to play a particular brand and have players predictable to each other, which is necessary in a highly functioning team, you need to just back your system. The real issue in the current team is that we don't appear to have a system other than get it forward, set up a wall to stop it getting out and hope that we somehow can manufacture a goal while it's in there. Players look unsure every time they get the ball and always appear to be second guessing themselves.
