The absolute elite of the AFL ....

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Class of his own atm: Ablett (can we have a "then daylight" smilie?)

Honourable mention: Hodge (out of form and injured but the guy is made of pigskin, just 100% football).

Past deeds: Judd followed by Goodes (still excellent but not above the pack anymore)

Guys like McLeod (past) and Pavlich (presently) are beauties but lets keep the elite exclusive by leaving even these stars out.

My dream is Didak will reach these heights, but he's not there by a long shot and he's our best all round footballer.

Elite:
C.Judd
G.Ablett
N.Riewoldt
A.Goodes (lucky)

S.Black (post-elite)
W.Treadrea (post-elite)
B.Cousins (post-elite)

Some unlucky but I'm a harsh marker. Elite should be just the best of the best.

Ablett

Bartel
J. Brown
Judd
Pavlich
Riewoldt
Goodes

Fevola at his best is.
Expect in a year or 2, Pendlebury, and...Shaun Burgoyne to be in here.

Forget about top ten midfielders.

I only have 11 as absolutely elite in the AFL.

Here they are IMHO, not ranked but in alphabetical order.

G Ablett
J Bartel
A Cooney
D Cox
L Franklin
A Goodes
L Hodge
C Judd
M Pavlich
N Reiwoldt
M Scarlett

If they keep it up for more than one season yes. I know I am being a bit harsh on Franklin especially but in my opinion he needs to carve up for more than 1 season to be elite.

Debatable. Cooney? He wouldn't be there without that Brownlow. Cox is an outstanding ruckman, but isn't the same player at the moment. Chapman? Mitchell?

Brown minus injuries = absolute elite. Wait for him to be fully fit.

Black should be up there based on past achievements (including runner up in the last two Brownlow-counts), not to mention he's humming along nicely this year, just had a slow start due to the whole no preseason thing.

I think 73 goals in 07' for a 20 year old is pretty damn impressive..

I also think aswell, no bias intended, that Sewell is really starting to make his way into the catagory:thumbsu:

Hodge is eliete, but is no where near it this season so far.

I don't consider hodge to be in the small handful of best players in the league, and therefore not elite.

Factoring in 2009:

C Judd
M Pavlich
G Ablett
L Franklin
N Riewoldt

I feel these players have not only been stars this year, but also last year as well (at least).

Franklin not as good this year compared to last, but compared to the rest of the AFL is still a star.

Unlucky - J Brown, J Bartel, D Cox, A Cooney, L Hayes, A Goodes

Too many nuff nuffs in this thread being ridiculously lenient on the meaning of ELITE.

4 behind Brown in 07, Browns highest tally ever. Then kicks 113 in total last year. If Franklin isn't elite, not saying he should be, neither should Brown. I know goals aren't the only thing to consider, but they can both influence a game.

I don't understand the fuss with Brown, he is good, but so are Pav and Roo yet Brown barely gets a whimper in contest to his eliteness.

I dont think a thread that is discussing the absolute elite of the AFL is complete without the name of Neon Leon Davis

I certainly do. Having a great season....doesnt make him elite.

G.Ablett
Franklin
Judd
N.Riewoldt
Pavlich
J.Brown
Bartel
Hodge

They are the only truly elite IMO.

Goodes not really close, dont know how he is getting mentions.
B.Harvey, Cross, Cooney, Pendlebury, Sewell, Hayes, Mitchell, Swan, Corey, Scarlett all in the next bracket but not in the top one.

And Montagna LOL.

My absolute elite is also determined by who clubs have the most challenge in matchin up...

Ablett by far (bias here?? not)
Judd
Riewoldt, N
Franklin

Close...
Goodes (though I hate to say it...)

...how could Leon Davis be close? Needs consistency over time...

James Bartel is the number 1 player in the comp and Dan Cross comes bloody close when it come to winning the hardest to win of the hard footy.

That matchup on Friday night was dynamite.

The elites.

Bartel
Montagna
Sewell
Cross
Ablett
Goodes
Hayes
Corey
Mitchell
Swan
Judd

Hodge and Cooney yes for last year but not in 09. Couple unlucky to miss out like Gibbs and Dal Santo but not quite at the top.

If your team doesn't have at least one of those players you should be very worried or hoping for some serious improvement.

Your joking?.
