It's interesting that a Hawks poster noted the strange situation that they have the wood on us , Geelong on them and us on Geelong.
Style of play? , tactics ? . I don't think so . I think it's all psychological.

When we play Geelong I always think we are going to win - totally confident - even when we lost last year it didn't bother me.
The Hawk's on the other hand deep down I feel we will lose and they scare me with there movement - the players
actually have to front up and face them rather than sitting at home ranting at the TV like us or me at least.

Take out two of our best three mids and a key player in our defence and it had to tell to some degree on the confidence of the group.
With the build up to a Grand Final replay it would have been extremely hard to completely ignore the issue. Those players back in and
we would probably have seen a completely different game and this not due just to the greater experience and ability of the said players.
Apart from a handful of players last night - it was a team loss. Tossed up the idea of whether the previous weeks game affected us - nup
too many players down right from the very start.

We may have only lost by 3 goals or so in Grand Final courtesy of the maggots but the difference was far greater than that in reality.
We got back to 3 points in the third... well we should have won from there. So what's the answer? Simple - we have to beat them.
But we have to believe we are going to do that first.

cracking post and right on the money.

Spot on. The return clash at subi is enormous.

We haven't played the Hawks in Perth since Ross took over. Subi will complement our style and make it harder for the hawks to kick through us. Win against the Hawks at subi, the heads start believing.

One win, that's all it is.

bottom line .... If you meet HAwks in the finals it will be a totally different level of intensity .
This game in the scheme of things doesn't mean too much.
Lyon's saints in 2010 got belted just as badly by the pies when they met earlier in the year yet they
Were on level terms come grand final 1 in the same year.

Hawks best 2 outside running mids had blinders.... Smith and Hill
Hawks best 2 play makers Mitchell and rioli ..... Also had blinders

There is no team in the Afl that will beat them including the cats when that happens.
Their forwards are just too good when they get that much quality ball.
Watch the media jump on Isaac smith shortly.... He is becoming one of
The keys to that side.

The wider ground is not good for our gameplan and structures.
Clarko completely out coached Lyon.
He took advantage of the wider ground and the Hawks foot skills to cut through our structure with ease.

Our pressure was pathetic and our hardness at the ball was crap also.
The Hawks though came with a gameplan to cut us open.
At stoppages most mids were defensive side, their first option was to always go backwards to guys in space and then ran hard to space and used short kicks to slice through our structure.
They rarely fell for the trap of just getting the ball and getting it going forward anyway possible because they knew that's what we want and setup for.

Mental side of playing at the MCG mostly just effects set shots on goals when they have time to think.
The main problem is its too wide and the swirling wind.

I think one of the most exciting things for us is that other than Fyfe, Barlow and Sandi none of our players have hit their best form yet, theres still alot of improvement left in us.

The papers are reporting Hannath has a nervous wait for the MRP findings after that high spoil and Zac Clarke got reported in the WAFL. Can it get any worse ? What would happen of both got suspended

Hawks will be sitting pretty on top of the ladder and they will send their B-team. The return clash will be meaningless.

That's a big call to make only 3 rounds into the season. I'm guessing premiership points will still be as valuable 21 rounds in as they are now.

We could play Moller, or at a pinch we could just go with 1 ruckman that week and let Dawson chop out. I think it's more likely we'd play Moller though, since we don't want to wear Sandi out too early.

Moller is still on the rookie list, though we may be able to upgrade him for Gumby if we need to.

or Apeness for a baptism of fire against the Bombers

How is it a big call?

Depends on the context, but they are looking awesome, and it would be the perfect opportunity for them to rest a few players prior to finals. I certainly don't expect it to be a game which will give a meaningful insight into the finals for either team. Neither coach is going to reveal their Finals strategies.

Unless the teams are battling for the number 4 or 8 spot on the ladder it is going to have far less significance than the game just played.

Has to be a minimum of 3 changes for next week. Hannath has to make way for Clark. Clancee Pearce racked up 39 possessions for Peel and used the ball well, he comes in for De Boer who's ball use is appalling at AFL level. Taberner was also impressive for Peel and must come into consideration as a tall marking target to help out Pav. Josh Simpson is gaining momentum, can't wait to see him on the AFL stage.

Agree, we are Hawthorn's bitch right now. Was looking at last 5 or 6 encounters between us before this game and we haven't won one of them. Don't think we have beaten them under Ross. Need to turn that around or there will be no holy grail coming our way.

They couldn't play.

That's what would happen.

Or, as they do consider us as a contender, they may want to keep their foot on our throat going into the finals, (assuming that both teams make it).

Way too early imo to be calling ladder positions at the pointy end of the year. Anything can happen.

Not a chance, this kid is no where near ready to play AFL and didn't play yesterday for Peel. Would rather go with Apeness if Clarke is suspended. He has an AFL body.

Strongly agree. Moller still thinks that he's playing basketball at times
