Bolton is a third year coach in just about the most open and transparent rebuild in history.

In the first 5 rounds the blues have had the most games missed through injury of any club, they regularly play with the youngest team in the comp and their draw (team + ladder position) reads as follows:

Richmond 1st
Gold Coast 11th
Collingwood 5th
North 4th
West coast 2nd

Pressure on Bolton is laughable.

People just want anyone who is bottom 2-3 on the ladder to sack their coach, just because.

Look at the relevant information, our team is significantly younger than your own, and have played less average games, in terms of the team fielded. This has been the case every round of this season (and the results show it too...)

That's not to discount the rest of your post, and in general I agree.

Looking at game played in isolation is fairly silly. It’s usually assumed the more experienced players are your elite players where many of ours are just stop gaps.

Also having a Simpson who has played nearly 300 games inflates our figure. He’s a damn good player still, but not better than when he had played 200 games

You do realise one of the key reasons those teams are so high on the ladder after so few games is the gimme game plus percentage boost against Carlton?

Do you honestly expect any of those teams to finish as high on the ladder at the end of the season as they are now?

Percentage boost?

Tigers by 26
GC by 34
Collingwood by 24
Eagles by 10

Are you suggesting that these huuuuuge percentage boosts are the reason these teams are sitting high on the ladder?

I’m not implying that the ladder won’t change, I’m simply stating the easy to understand point that these teams are all in great form. By extension, Carlton has played all their games against form teams.

As opposed to a scenario where Carlton play bottom six teams and all their wins against us being an anomaly compared to their other games.

You get it?

Form teams?

You played Richmond in round 1 before they were belted in round 2 against Adelaide; Collingwood in round 3 when we were 0 and 2 with many pundits predicting we'd be 0 and 6, and Buckley gone.

I get it, and the reason all those teams are higher than they will likely finish this year is because they've had a gimme game against Carlton.

It's just a very lazy way to overrate your performances, but then again it has been the way of the Navy Blues over the past 15 years so we shouldn't be too surprised.

If you don’t get the point, that’s fine I won’t labour it.

Speaking of lazy arguments that is one of your absolute worst Fadge - form teams lol.

Yeah man Richmond losing to Adelaide in Adelaide was a huge form slump, and it's shown since then after their 0 losses.

Collingwood - a team quite clearly aiming for finals - turned its form around against a bottom 4 team, shock horror.

what else?

What else? Gold Coast and North Melbourne, just as examples...

This thread should be locked for 2 years.

As previously noted, if you turn over 42 players in three years, it's the third year where it will bite hardest. Pretty simple. Add injuries and you have the perfect storm.

Carlton have some great kids, and Bolton is the right coach. When those kids are maturing, and free agents also start to play their role we'll be in a great position to judge Bolts.

Finally, I would have thought that Richmond's approach with Dimma is the salutary lesson here about patience, and don't we all remember the crap he got from Richmond posters for many, many years when most knew he just didn't have the cattle.

You’re argument is that Carlton didn’t lose to any in-form teams, Gold Coast had won the previous weak and have hardly been disgraceful, and North are close to a top 4 spot. Not to say Carlton weren’t woeful in those games - they truly were.

I’m not even sure what you’re trying to achieve in this thread, do you honestly think Bolton’s job should be in jeapoardy?

Half the pies board still wants them to sack Bucks! They got no idea! LOL

Carlton - accepting mediocrity since 2003. You can only play as well as your opponents let you, and Carlton is one team that allows every opponent to look like flag favourites!

Chunky - you can still get $9 about North Melbourne finishing top 4 - get on board Tiger! (meanwhile, Carlton are $1000 to 1).

You were talking round 3 form not end of year, stop trolling.

As for accepting mediocrity, you literally re-signed your coach because you thought he was doing an adequate job after taking you backwards for 5 consecutive seasons. All good though, you might finish 8th this season, narrowly lose the elimination final and load up again next year. It’s a vicious cycle making up the numbers each year.

I was saying that a team can look like they're in great form by belting sub-standard opposition. Has happened every year since the inception of the current top 8 system, where everyone goes off the Qualifying Final loser (who is beaten by a likely Grand Finalist), and jumps on board a winning Elimination Finalist. Look at Sydney last year. Look at 90% of the Semi-Final results in the past 20 years.

That perception is even more pronounced when playing a perennial cellar dweller like Carlton.

2012 - the year we were beaten in a Preliminary Final by the eventual premier? Our 7th Preliminary Final in 11 seasons?

How regularly is one team meant to finish in the top 4 in an 18 team competition?
Yep, and that finish was too good so the next year in 2013 you went backwards.

Still too good for Collingwood, so in 2014 you went backwards...Alas - STILL too damn good for the pies, so in 2015 you went backwards.

Again, still too much success...backwards again and so forth...

Considering carlton won a final more recently than collingwood maybe you should wait fore more than a good 2-game stretch before trash talking.

Yep, you've got me there.

And I can't even counterpunch by saying Carlton have gone backwards, because there's nowhere to fall from 18th!
We’ve hung around the bottom but Bolts and the club has been very transparent that the entire club is being reset which means a bit of on field pain. At least we know it and have direction.

Collingwood did a weird coaching transition, went backwards every year, picked up players to push them to the top only to miss the finals (again) and lost their mantle as Australia’s biggest club. But because you’ve hit a patch of good form you have the right to try and trash talk despite not even winning a final since 2012.

Collingwood have a long way to go to that ‘too much success’ again.
