I think it is fitness. Both physical and mental.

He's throwing the bat at it like there's nothing left in the innings for him. He's made the hundred, he's got the bonus payment. What's there for him left? Let the other guys have a swing at the ball.

But I would rather he and Smith were batting for massive scores.

Cam Green has to be one of the most frustrating cases of "potential" I've ever seen.
He is such a beautiful bat, and then he goes and does something like that. Every innings.

Send him to the Shield for a season and tell him he won’t be considered for test selection unless he scores at least one double century

I was with you until the double century part. I just want him averaging high 40s and not having continuous brain fades that are common in under 10s.

It’s the concentration thing. He has all the tools but loses concentration. Needs to work on that, and a double century would prove he had

The spin situation in this match kind of illustrates one of the conundrums the selectors face: Webster is not a very good bowler. He is slow and doesn't move it all that much. The only difference between him and a part time medium pacer of your Ricky Ponting / Damien Martyn / Marnus* type is he more accurate. If he was a 10/15% better bowler they would have probably felt Green could be dropped and accommodate a spinner safely.

So reasoning wise** when you combine that they want to persist with Green with evidently feeling exposed with Webster as the 4th seam option (he bowled 5 overs as the 5th option and looked decidedly non threatening). Whereas Green is an out and out front line bowler, back not withstanding. He is genuinely quick, gets awkward bounce and a bit of movement. I actually thought he bowled well yesterday. I mean its not like he was bowling short against orders. It’s all pre planned that he gets that gig of trying bounce the middle order out with the old ball.

I reckon they have let incrementalism infect their reasoning a bit too much. They should have either dropped Green and batted Webster at 7 (as what’s the point of him batting 8 and hardly bowling?), or played Murphy instead of Webster and copped the shorter batting order. I mean it’d still have left a bloke with 5 first class tons at 8. It’s also not like couldn’t have just dropped Webster for Green next August as well. It’s exactly what they did just 2 months ago!

*Marnus is actually consistently quicker than Beau.
**Their reasoning.

CA had a tantrum and boycotted the ABC over this:

They should have just let it go through to the keeper. I mean what were they going to do? Cut off interviews forever if ABC commentators criticize them again? Now they just look like plonkers.

Maybe this is how NRL admins deal with critical media but he is forgetting they all have commercial relationships to maintain; whereas standing over the ABC is 0 sum.

Seems a bit weird to me.

My initial feeling is that maybe he's echoing more than just his own opinion. He's pretty high up in NSW cricket. Maybe this has been discussed at a higher level and CA believe he's speaking out of school.

All the NRL fans were happy Greenberg left to go CA, he was that bad apparently.

He is not as fit as he could be. He gets tired and loses focus.

But, I mean he's still an unreal player despite that!
He is fat and unfit, not just not as fit as he could be.

I do that walking the second half of singles in a provocative manner thing myself but I am a fat old 47 year old community cricketer, not a test one

Funny the mindset of people

I'm a fit young almost 47 year old who plays community cricket who pushes hard through the singles.

I guess mindset can make or break humans. You sound like you've already got one foot in the grave.

It's 100% out of the Peter V'Landys playbook

Todd Slimeberg was not liked in the NRL.

I can assure you i saw him in action at the Bulldogs/NRL for a decade and he can't be trusted.

He covered up the Ben Barba stuff and then when he went into the NRL role he was another stooge in there running the game.

V'Landys tossed him out quick smart.

He then wealsed his way onto the ACA board then CA job.

I cringed when CA appointed him.
