Only positive from this seeing his former teammates/current mates go in to back up their mate. Terribly mishandled and seems like a great coach

Have heard all the players don’t like him, he is a micromanager and has intense structures in place which aren’t sustainable.

So not entirely surprised he is gone. Obviously has been poorly handled.

Sounds like they want a Joe Root style soft cock type coach in charge. And we all saw how good that mates style leadership goes. Langer is hardly the ruthless enforcer style coach that Lehman or those before him were.

Also we are all hearing this because there's leaks from a playing group that is white anting their coach. One side of a story doesn't make it factual.

With the scathing assessment of the playing group from Langers teammates we've thrown away our chance with Ponting. Doubt he'll want to walk into this.

Just telling you what I have heard, and this information came to me well before Langers position looked at threat. Information not from the playing group either.

In regards to Ponting I don't think he would take the job now regardless of how its played out, based on comments he made on the grade cricketer podcast a few months back. He seems quite happy with his life balance at the moment. Maybe when his kids are a bit older would he consider spending significant amounts of time away from them.

why would anyone coach them? so they can be humiliated publicly down the line?

langer did everything that was asked of him from the mess he inherited. he even changed his style after complaints first arose. now we win the ashes easily and everything is all hunky dory? they'd better hope like hell they beat pakistan

Surely, it's just a marketing gimmick to label any women's games between England and Australia as 'The Ashes'.

The origin of the term refers to a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, its first Test win on English soil. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia". This tradition is about men's cricket.

The term has no relevance to women's cricket between the two countries, moreso when it is being extended to One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 International matches.

Langer was asked to take more a back seat for the Ashes and T20 WC. MCDonald and DeVenuto stepped up and took a more prominent role.

It’s been reported by more than one journo that Langer’s over the top intensity had negative impact on not just the players but also other staff. It was felt that that had to walk on eggshells around him. Also felt according to those reports that his talks were too often platitudes.

Don’t agree. It’s Aust v England and they have every right to call it the Ashes. Simply starting a new tradition in line with the times

A 'new tradition' is just marketing.

Recent women's games between the two countries playing one day internationals and twenty 20 matches has nothing to do with the tradition of men's Test cricket going back to 1882.

Is under 15s girls Australia v England at netball the Ashes?

Wasn't aware netball was cricket. Your hatred of women knows no bounds

The Ashes is connected to cricket not netball so not a good analogy.

International Womens cricket is still in its infancy. They were given one four day test. Eventually that will increase to five day games and longer test series.

The test was a very entertaining match and provided support for case of longer matches/series. The first men’s Ashes series was just one test. Who knows they may have included one dayers and t20 then as well if the formats existed

i'd love to know how much neil maxwell has been involved in these stories, seeing as he manages the captain and seemingly the coach in waiting

Another concussion for Pucovski, subbed out after being hit in the nets. Shattering for him as that surely has to be it. As talented as he is, his long-term health needs to come first now. Sadly, there's a fair chance he's already done long-term damage.

Holy shit, that is shocking news to wake up to.

Watching Warne bowl was always must see tv. I remember every summer as a kid me and my mates would be playing backyard cricket with the cricket on in the background, or playing video games etc. but as soon as Warne was bowling we’d stop and give it our full attention. Every time. He was just pure magic.

RIP
