The B.o.B. Appreciation Thread

So make yourself clear in future. You are saying drake is a shit artist not that he isn't a hip hop artist.

If you don't consider soulja boy or drake hip hop artists you can't say b.o.b is, especially when his most famous tracks are not hip hop.

When did I say B.o.B. was a hip hop artist?

He's much more versatile than that.

Can't take him seriously after doing a song with bruno mars.

Idiotic statement.

Is it because Bruno Mars is pop? Only a moron would not be able to recognise that he is a ridiculously talented artist.

This is why I can't stand the music board. If an artist does not conform to your image or style of music, then he is instantly dismissed as garbage, even when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Honestly, hiphop is the most hated on genre in an ignorant sense, as the general public don't understand the technicalities to its writing - multies, internal rhyming, punchlines, etc. Every single one of hiphop's greatest artists would be hated on in a general public thread, so there's no point trying to get appreciation from the ignorant. Best to leave this in the hiphop thread where he would get a tonne more appreciation.

For the record - yes, he's one of hiphop's biggest breaths of fresh air in the last couple of years.

b.o.b is awful, an artist that needs to feature other artists on his tracks to try be relevant. He is a very very very poor mans lupe.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.

Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds.

But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
