agalloch - pale folklore / the mantle / ashes against the grain
nightwish - oceanborn / wishmaster / century child

Would love to have named Meshuggah, but unfortunately 2 albums either side of 'Nothing' is where there best work is and i dont like Nothing all that much to name it.

notable mentions;
rammstein - herzeleid / sehnsucht / mutter

decapitated and swallow the sun both have an iffy album amongst 4 in total. necrophagist, be'lakor and the morningside all have 2 great albums each. so i'll be putting them in here if any of them follow it up with a great album. (unlikely to ever see a necrophagist one )

^^^ Foo Fighters maybe???

These days, with music being more about image and sales and crap, there are a lot of bands that come and go, are "fashionble" then aren't. I reckon it IS hard for them to come up with 3 or 4 good albums in a row because their management or record companies have so much influence over content, and because the kids don't listen to or buy their stuff because it's not on commercial radio.

INXS = listen like thieves...kick..........& X.for that era for a Aussie band that was a great effort.there doesn't seem to be many modern bands ala 2000's that have 3 good/great records in a row.
Yeah yeah yeahs, Fever to tell - Show your bones - Its Blitz.
Great albums. But thats about it for the 2000s, I'd say.
Also: Damaged, The first 4 years, My War by Black Flag.
Evol, Sister, Daydream Nation by Sonic youth.

Heaps of love for The Cure in this corner!

I'd go with Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography - which is a well-loved trilogy of albums (chronologically, unlike the Pornography, Disintegration, Bloodflowers 'mood' trilogy).

Also Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, Disintegration, Wish. I love Wish. It doesn't get mentioned nearly enough. It's great. And the other two albums are clearly awesome as well.

I'd love to link Bloodflowers in there, but the eternal disgrace that is Wild Mood Swings gets in its' way.

Pretty sure Magical Mystery Tour was an EP when it was released. It wasn't until the CD era that it was expanded to become album length.

Just my opinion, but anyone who claims Sgt.Pepper's as brilliant needs to listen to it today. In full. One of the most overrated albums ever.

As it stands, Beatles for Sale to Rubber Soul would be my pick. White Album through to Abbey Road would have been close, but Yellow Submarine destroys that possibility.
It's a very dark sounding album to me.

Lucy In The Sky,A Day In The Life are my favs.

Rubber Soul and REvolver are very good but I like their funny side like Lady Madonna,Yellow submarine,Octopuses Garden-real happy songs that uplift your mood.

Absolutely love Day in the Life, but the rest of the album just doesn't do it for me. I've tried many times too.

I'd probably still pick the White Album as my favourite Beatles album.

Yeah Wish is a great album too with two classic singles.

Between The Buried And Me
The Silent Circus - Alaska - Colors

If only TGM wasn't filled with wankery, I'd even say Colors/TGM/Hypersleep Dialogues, alas it's not to be.

BUMP !

I was thinking what the longest run of great albums would be and this old thread came to mind. I am currently working my through Neil Young's early catalogue and his run from his debut eponymous album to Rust Never Sleeps is incredible.

Neil Young
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
After The Goldrush
Harvest
Time Fades Away
On the Beach
Tonight's the Night
Zuma
American Stars N Bars
Comes a Time
Rust Never Sleeps

All great in their own way. Even Hawks and Doves that followed was a good, but not great album.

He then had a pretty barren spell...
