Seriously, how good has he been this year.

IMO he is without doubt our most important player, is vital to our premiership chances this year. Here hoping the big man can have an injury free year and not be burnt out by finals time.

I think his form has shown quite clearly he needs a good run of games to get going, and going he most certainly is now.

Does NOT need to be rested. We'll need him against Carlton.

I reckon he'll be rested against GC and we really need to manage him through the year. Is the most irreplacable player in the side along with Scarlett.

Didn't have much opposition in the ruck tonight but by gosh he was fantastic.

Surprised there is not more love for the big Pill in here. He's been one of our best so far and his performance has improved immensely from last year. Not sure whether it is the new sub rule or just confidence and fitness, but something has changed. Handed out a lesson last night. Go The Big O!

I lovin' his performance around the ground, but marvel at how often he elects to hand pass rather than kick. He is a great mark but his reliability in front of goal is poor (even compared to Mooney and Pods). It's not as if he's always been a poor kick. If his kicking returned to his best, he'd be in AA contention.

Saw this thread and I thought someone was going to raise Harry 'footsteps OBrien. Man he was terrible last night. The amount of times he heard footsteps and ducked was amazing. Not the one that usually carves us up. Glad he was the opposition last night.

Realistically Ottens won't get an AA as long as media darling Sandi is playing - it's fair enough that he's a lock for ruck given his size and ability, but that sub thing really screwed the 2nd ruck position.

Not just Sandilands, Mumford took a great mark against Port and apparently that mark alone decided whether he was the best ruckman in the competition. The fact that Ottens broke even at least with Sandilands and beat Mumford won't be recognised.

The AA nominations are like most awards in footy unfortunately, it's a popularity contest between 6 mates. Pavlich, Sandilands and Judd's names are written down in February.

To be honest, I have never seen Vardy play, so I can't really comment. But considering he hasn't played a game yet and by all reports is still very raw, we wouldn't want the big fella to go down.

I've been singing the praises for Otto for ages now.. He is an absolute beast when on song.. In 2007, in my mind, he was an All-Australian.. That year I think it was Sandilands and Hamish McIntosh as AAs.. I remember that final against North Melbourne, and Ottens absolutely destroyed Mcintosh.. Sent him to the forward line with his tail between his legs... Ottens is an out and gun when healthy..Lets not forget the 07 prelim against the pies, single handedly willing us to victory.

It's a tough situation on managing the big guy.. We're all scared of an injury, but he needs a good run of games to get the motor clicking on all cylinders.

I think the fitness guys have finally got Otto's preseason down pat. I think we will see him miss a couple of games soon... rested. Vardy will come in. We will never see Blake play again.

I'll admit to having serious doubts about his ability to go around again this season but between Otto and Joel Corey we have the recruits of the year!
I also want to see Vardy in action but what about big Dawson?

I think the fitness guys have finally got Otto's preseason down pat. I think we will see him miss a couple of games soon... rested. Vardy will come in. We will never see Blake play again.

Keep in mind that these were the guys Scott brought over with him from Freo - after handling Sandliands for (x) number of years I'm sure they had no problems getting Ottens up and running.
