Our English players always get injured from internationals, just how it is. Was gutted they picked Trent, should've just left him

The annoying thing is, the talk was he was not going to play in the Euros. ******* Southgate picks him for a friendly and he gets injured. Why play him in a friendly if he's not part of your plans for the real stuff? The upside is, TAA will definately not play the Euros now and he has the pre-season to recover. Eight week recovery, I read.

Egypt want Salah for the Olympics 21st July - 7th August. R1 of the League is 14th of August. Normally that would be fine but they also want him for AFCON in January.

Olympics isn't on international dates so release of players isn't mandatory. I say we let him go but only if they don't call him up for the AFCON until the 3rd group stage game, giving us another week of him playing in January. If the Egyptian FA aren't willing to budge don't let him go to Japan at all. And no going to the AFCON / Olympic football tournaments if 2 weeks of quarantine is required on return.

AFCON could be cancelled

Can't see it going ahead under those conditions. Won't be postponed until Jan 2023 either with Qatar 2022 being played from Nov-Dec 2022.

Tournament should be quadrennial in any case like all other continental tournaments.

They should make it every 4 years and off season anyway, it would make buying African players more appealing to top clubs, too, because they know they won't go off every two years in January

Difficult playing in the northern summer for the majority of Africa with extremely hot conditions, similar to Qatar. Southern Africa is the only realistic place to host tournaments mid year in Africa with a suitable climate. So it will likely always be in January for the time being.

Making it quadrennial would be a big help though. Maybe they could have it at the same time as the 2 week international break every mid November (climate should be ok by then).
