I dont think we should allow trades for the moment. Would make it too complicated.

New thread for the actual draft?

this is a mockdraft for the upcoming 08 Draft. How the hell do we predict trades?

anyways lets get started:
Pick #1: Chicago Bulls - Derrick Rose
2004026320.jpg

Derrick Rose is the best player in the draft, thus why he's going with pick 1. He creates wide-open shots with his dribbling, and makes nice effective passes. Rose has an excellent midrange game, and though his 3-point shooting may need some more work, he'll eventually become very solid with it. For a 6"3 PG, he certainly can rebound and has good anticipation in his jump timing. He plays hard on defense and goes for the passing lanes a lot, as well as help players in the post. Also he has the body built to be a start and play significant minutes in the NBA.

Other players that were looked upon were Michael Beasley, and Brook Lopez.
Lopez would be a nice addition at the center position also, but realistically Rose and Beasley are ahead of him. Beasley will become a very good player and would solve some problems of the Bulls frontcourt, however they already have promising players who they'd want to develop in that field through Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, and Tyrus Thomas, and as well use Nocioni. That means that Rose will take over the Point position and will push Hinrich out of the lineup, in which they will probably trade him to another team.

New Bulls Lineup:
C - Joakim Noah
PF - Tyrus Thomas
SF - Luol Deng
SG - Thabo Sefolosha
PG - Derrick Rose

New thread for the actual draft?

Re: trades that's my feeling too, and unless a majority want to trade, I'll leave it as no trades for now.

I don't think a new thread is necessary for the actual draft - I'll just link everybody's picks in the OP.

yeah keep it as is. it could get silly.

i mean as the grizz GM ill trade my 5th pick and darko, plus 2009, 2010, 2011 future first rd draft picks for lebron, who then trade the 2009 first rd pick, wallys contract and gibson to san antonio for duncan, who is then passed onto memphis.

Alright, since there are no trades allowed yet...

I'll take Beasley with the second pick.

Any reasons?

Though its an obvious choice.

Yeah, I would have liked to see some discussion/video too.

I know it's a pretty obvious pick, and you don't have to include everything I suggested in the OP (or that Shaucob_Burjan did in his pick of Beasley), but some analysis would be good.

Anyways, now it gets interesting with the third pick pretty wide open.

Forgive me if Pick 15 takes a while to get written up but I'm taking off to Africa Kevin Bacon "Air Up There" style for my pick :D

Umm he's awesome and does stuff well... :D

Heat are in need of a low post presence and even at 6'8 Beasley will provide this, as he is a proven scorer in college and is a good rebounder; something the Heat are also lacking (due to Blount ).
He has a fairly nice outside game, and can knock down the three as well, so is very interchangable like Marion; able to play the SF and PF role. Will get open looks at the 3 spot with Wade slashing and dishing out to the three line.

BTW, reason I didn't write an analysis is due to wanting to trade the pick after we are done drafting. So much of the stuff I wrote above is there for no reason. :D

The other teams have taken too long so without any objections Phoenix has moved up to Pick #3............:D

we won't finish before the actual draft the rate this is going.

has someone PMed sirjames?

We'll be fine as far as finishing, but sirjames hasn't logged on for almost 2 weeks according to his profile, so I'm thinking we might have to find a new GM for Minny. I'll give it another 24 hours anyway.

Man, imagine Phoenix with the no.3 pick.

Sarver would be giddy - they could get at least 5 million dollars for it. ;)

Or Sam Cassell.

Hi everyone,

I have just been offered a substantial amount of $$ to be Minnesota's GM for this pick. I will still maintain my role in Memphis as their scouting and GM.

I look at the roster, and its almost like New York of the early 90s, a lot of swingmen. I like what the future holds here with 2007 first round Corey Brewer, Randy Foye (primary ball handler) and Big Al J. Other than that opposition teams simply quiver and shake at these players:

guards: jaric (only there cause he's dating Adriana Lima), McCants (hasn't lived upto his hype), Buckner, Snyder and Telfair. Oh and wannabe guard A Walker.
forwards/center: Doleac, Madsen, Richard and Smith.

So with this in mind, with the third pick of the NBA draft the Minnesota Timberwolves select Brook Lopez.

(looks a bit like bosh here)

As there are no trades permitted to be made in this thread we decided to go with Brook. Ideally I would trade down, look at a PG and then look at free agency, or a lower draft pick, to acquire a good big man. However it's not to be.

There is a glutton of potentially great guards in the draft, and unfortunately timing wise its not good for the organisation given our present situation with the small positions. We need to draft for requirements, and future needs, and in selecting Brook we see a very solid, rebounding big man with plenty of upside. A natural centre, he has nice soft hands (a la Gasol) and is a finesse player who can compliment the more bruising power play of AJ. He's long and such features (as well has length) doesn't grow on trees. 19 pts and 8 rebs is a really good foundation to work with.

Certainly we cannot expect him to contribute in a big way on offence (Wolves ranked last in the NBA) but we anticipate his defensive skills will aid us in improving on our 21st overall rank in points against/game, and an insipid 27th in opponents FG%.

I personally have seen him play for Stanford (well on tv whilst in the states) and he looked good. He and his twin brother offer different things, and whenever they played any other Cal colleges it was always about how to counteract the Lopez twins. Here's hoping that Brook can be the Jarron of the Collins twins instead of the Jason (interchange those two Collins as you see fit - basically hope he's the better twin).

Stanford is a reputable college that has provided NBA loving fans with alumni such as the Collins twins, Curtis Borchardt, Adam Keefe, Mark Madsen, former Perth Wildcat Todd Lichti, and Brevin Knight. We trust Brook will break the trend of dud Sanford bigs.

We hope that the selection of Brook Lopez will also aid in our attempt to attract the small number of Hispanics living in the greater Minneapolis to come to the Target Center.

When asked for his opinion about being chosen by the Wolves with the number 3 pick, Lopez stated "I hope I can become a great player like fellow #3 pick Michael Jordan. I know I can't expect miracles but if I work hard and listen to the coach I know I can help this team become a playoffs franchise! I am also grateful for the opportunity to wear my #11."

Finally as we can see here he hits his buzzer beaters.

I honestly think Lopez is overrated, (mind you I only watched one game of Stanford)but I agree with everything you had to say about Minny. It's a tough pick like you said, since you cannot trade you went down this road which I understand. Lopez sadly seems to be the best big man (well everyone says so but I like Jordan!) but I would cry if he became a number 3 pick. (Well i wouldn't cry but Minny could get him anywhere between 6-12 I think)

anyway sorry for all the bracket comments. Interesting pick and you probably know more than me but that's my thoughts. I would take Randolph here just because of the talent he has (with nice size to boot), but if they did go the talent option i don't think they'd go past Mayo. They definately do need a legit C and Lopez is the way i think they'll go also if they decide that is their biggest need and cannot trade down.

Yeah, I agree with most of that.

Minny's in a tough spot where they have a massive hole at C in a draft that you could throw a blanket over about 5-7 centre prospects. So there's not really much value for them at 3.

If they don't trade down, I think their best option would actually be looking at Mayo or Augustin. I remember reading a story about Minnesota lulling teams to sleep because they have absolutely no communication on the court, so a leader at PG would be handy.

Anyways, good writeup PN, now The team soon to be formerly known as Seattle is on the clock.
