Are you sure about that? If it's the 2019 season you're thinking of, then the winners, Tess & Luke, made $630,000 over the reserve plus $100,000 for winning the show.

In the Glasshouse season (2014), Darren & Deanne Jolly and Michael & Carlene made only $10,000 over the reserve. While Karstan & Maxine made $40,000 over the reserve. The season winners (Shannon & Simon) made $335,000 over the reserve and the 100G prize money.

The only other Terrace Block I can think of is Season 5 (2012), where we first met Dan & Dani. But all teams that year made hundreds of thousands of dollars over the reserve.
One of the best moments in block history was Dee's reaction to not killing it at auction.

The point of the whole show originally was for most teams to make some money but the prize for winning was to dwarf the money they made......these days they all make hundreds of thousands and the prizemoney is just a bonus but not the big prize.

And all due to a rich guy buying them all each year.

Edit: The actual point of the whole show is for Ch.9 and the production to make squillions and they are very successful at this

Bit odd S & A aren't flogging furniture to pay for the 53k. Sharon s phone is plastered to her hand, wouldn't kill her to jump on marketplace

It just feels like there’s a agreement that they can return their stuff. Both SJ and Jenny said about returning their lounges, the boys getting a king instead of a queen. Don’t think any of us would have the same luck trying to return used furniture.

And am I the only one who thinks that Rachel would be a massive Karen in the outside world?

The boys will probably use the queen in their master bedroom in their guest bedroom they have to do this week. Rachel talked about doing the same at her house (ie, buying a King for their redo room and using the queen in the room they're doing this week). They'd all be looking to save money this week.

How is it that a day after room reveals that their rooms are absolute pigstys along with the rest of the house
Have you seen the mud around those houses? It would be impossible to keep clean. Plus, as in other years, the contestants often just move the stuff from one room to another as they do the rooms.

It's good to see the penny has finally dropped for S&A about budgeting. All too late, but at least they've learned a valuable lesson.

Working harder than anyone else on the block…really Sharon?

Seriously delusional, also highly amusing when she first mentioned biggest house by 20 sqm then checked herself realizing she was being filmed and would be caught out lying.

Scotty is really going after them with the comments how it's not that much bigger, i dare say he has had enough of the sooking and bitching on camera.

It was good seeing the houses in their almost complete stages (inside). It really put everything into a good perspective. When I saw Deanne Jolly getting off a helicopter as if she was royalty I nearly vomited. Then I remembered, only rich w@nkers will be buying these properties.

If I had that sort of money I would be building my own house personally

Personally, if I had the money, I would never buy any of those houses. Just too big for me. You don't need a pavilion for a living room. A 40m hallway, no thanks. Just overkill.

Not just with these ones but I've said time and time again, why do they build $3m houses that only have one living space?

I house sat for a week and a half, a house in Eltham, which had exactly that- massive hallway down to my bedroom where I slept.

Absolutely drove me bonkers, if I forgot something walking up and down that ****ing hallway.

Seeing the plans they show regularly, I think some (maybe all) have media rooms in the sheds (besides the home offices) which I suppose could be used as a second living room. But I agree. You'd think they'd put a small one in the old houses as O&O did. That wasn't a bad idea, just the execution was poor as they needed to keep the room flexible in case the owner needed another bedroom. Or as Shaynna said, take the cabinets out, and put a sofa bed in there against the wall so it could be a guest bedroom if needed.

These places should come with indoor eScooters so you can get around. LOL
