Kudos to Neale for being straight to the point 'it doesn't sit well with me at all to be honest.'

Then went on later to say he had nothing prepared.

Absolutely shambolic result, Neale has had a very solid season but nothing more. He himself would be the first to admit that.

For the love of Michael Christian take the ****ing votes away from the umpires.

Mate did you not watch last year when Cripps won. If he wasn’t embarrassed nobody ever will be.
If it wasn't for Cripps getting it last year via legal loopholes Neale wouldn't have won this year's. It happens every year where a player who did well but didn't win the previous year gets a charity boost. I'd have rather he'd won last year's.

He did poll 3 votes in a game where he had 20 possessions, 13 of them handballs. I gave up trying to understand how they came up with the votes years ago
In that game, his contested game was elite. If umpires are close to the contest and see him completely dominating, they're going to notice him far more than a chip-scab getting 20x 1-2 handballs the entire game.

Gulden should have had 3 in the last game.

Him and Trac clearly the two best players that day and they polled 1 vote between them

Yep..in what world do you not get 3 for 42 disposals ffs

Happened to Diesel too..same 40
Plus numbers ..cost him
A medal

Gee that's not company you want to be involved with.
They're all Brownlow medalists so I'd be ecstatic to be in that company!

I would too but he deserves to be a dual Brownlow medalist and now he is.

Would have liked to see the Bont draw but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Umpires can't umpire properly but they are expected to award the most prestigious medal in the game?

COOL.

Did you say the same last year? Or is this a conveniently recent revelation.

Kind of felt that the year Tom Mitchell won. If you didn't know it already it became a midfielders stat collector awards. Most of the play is in the middle generally so that's what umps mostly see.
Go at least a decade before Tom...

And
Did some research. Woewodin in 2000, Mitchell in 2012, Priddis in 2014 and now Neale in 2023 are the Brownlow Medallists who haven't made AA. AA starting in 1991.

In 2018 the eventual premiership captain wasn't AA captain, despite being the only captain in the side. He lost it to a bloke not even in his club's leadership team.

AFL awards are generally a joke. Are people really surprised?

The dumbest thing about the Brownlow is that it presumes that the top 3 performances in each game are worth the same votes.

Dominating a top of the table clash full of AA stars only gets you the same number of votes as winning a wooden spoon cripple fight.
