He is judged too harsh for my liking.

He was great today if not the best.

Another consistent year...............show him some love people!

Yeah he's been first class, especially since the bye.

Some on here carry on about him being clearly injured or whatever, but I think he's been going great! Despite having a few quiet games this year, he's still #2 in the official player rankings.

His vision, awareness and ability to get out of almost any situation boggles my mind. His handball ability is absolutely elite. Even in congestion he doesn't take the obvious option, or a 'good' option, he - more often than not - takes an option that no one else even has the vision to see in the first place (i.e. He invents a new option!).

Love watching him play. His best is not behind him yet!

One good game does not a season make.

His effort has wavered this year and in some games he has been very much below par.

We may hold him to a higher set of standards but that is because that is what he has set. He certainly hasn't lived up to them this year.

One good game. Lol. Pendles is still underrated. Averaging nearly 30 a game. 6th in the comp for possies and apparently he is having a bad season. I'd put money on him winning the Copeland again as well. Guy is a superstar. We should be appreciating every game he plays as he wont be around forever.

Our only All Australian player this year, well he should be.

He's judged so harshly by most of our fans, but he'll win the copeland in a cakewalk at the moment.

Played through injury early in the year and now looks to be over those complaints, still a top 5 league wide player.

He is an incredible player and we don't appreciate him as much as we should. I thought he was clearly our best player yesterday and also against north last week.

Apparently the stats show that over the season he has been involved in 34% of our scores.....the only player with similar stats is Franklin at the Swans.

he has taken a heavy load for most of the year and at times with not much help
and has grown a lot as a on field leader. just simply all class

His effort has absolutely not diminished this year. If it's any indication he's averaging more tackles and more contested possessions than last year. Another stat to consider: he's involved in 34% of our his team's scores this season and outside of Lance Franklin there is no one that has a higher ratio in the comp.

I totally agree with the OP, the standards set for him are ridiculous especially when you consider he was played in the back during our horrible start of the year and that he has lost Swan as his main midfield partner of 10 years and has had to adapt to a totally new midfield mix.

Even if he won't get the media praise for his performances because our team isn't performing anywhere near the best in the competition, it's disappointing that our own fanbase doesn't give him enough credit for the work he does. He is carrying our team and without him we would be nowhere.

We was playing in the backline and was completely unaccountable. He was shown up and scored against heavily when played there.

He belongs in the middle, not forward or coming off half back. You don't go paddock bashing in a Ferrari

Well I agree but what would that have to do with his effort wavering or having less strong a year / below par games? – Not really his fault the coaches had a completely wrong plan in place for him. He has had some absolute stellar games (vs Essendon, Brisbane, Geelong, Carlton, West Coast, Bulldogs) and even in his slightly more quiet performances he was always a strong contributor. Very few mids in the league could say so with only Dangerfield having a stronger year than him and Mitchell probably on par.

His defensive efforts haven't been great this year. Until yesterday. He was mighty in his tackling pressure all around the ground and led from the front. I haven't felt that he has done that in every game this season.

He hasn't been helped by the game plan at times, coupled with the lack of support around him.

He always runs two ways and he averages 5.5 tackles a game in what is the best tackling team in the comp (Greenwood, Treloar and Crisp are the only pies player who average more tackles per game than him). He doesn't need to have double digit tackles in every game, that's just not the sort of player he is and not the role he's meant to play as our most skillful midfielder.

Sorry I don't mean to argue against you specifically but I just find it frustrating that the player we put the most workload in games on (every player looks for him in first instance) and that has been a superstar for us for so many years doesn't get the recognition he deserves from his own supporter base.

Yes i think he'll win the Copeland if he took the rest of the year off.
Superstar in line for another AA.
People that think he's not played well probably need to try and read the umpires shirts, may be helpful

I've believed for the last 2 seasons that we will see a better version of pendles at age 30 and onwards as I think he will pass on the captaincy after the next season is over . I feel someone like Adams or Reidy will take over ... and on good terms leaving pendles as a " vice " captain ect.. We will then have a skillfull and organized leader in pendles , and a bit of mungrel in our captain which seems to be a good combo for success ! Or it could stay how it is until he is 40 and I would still be wrapped !!

Taylor Adams is our next captain, events of the past few weeks, both on and off field have solidified that.

And yeah I reckon it will allow Pendles to play more freely which will help the team, and his game too.

He's never been quick so like a Harvey (Robert) or Tuck he could play well into his 30's.

He has been our greatest player since i started watching Collingwood pay 45 years ago by far and this year hasn't changed my mind. God help is where we woud be without him because he is about one of the only good decision makers in our team, His only problem is he too unselfish and has to give the ball to players who promptly turn it over. Given he gets the hard ball a lot his disposal efficiency is ridiculous compared to other inside mids.
I love him.

The bloke is an out and out superstar and our best player since Buckley, swan is a very close second.
From what I read is judged far too harshly on here, his stats this year show he has had a very good year and will be for many years too come.
He is everything collingwood the last 3 Years

But nobody could be pleased with what Collingwood has been for the last 3 years.

Don't Rule out Treloar and Reid to be AA this year or at least be in the 40 Man Squad

Adams or Moore be the major 2 but Does look like Adams is the most Read to Step-In after Pendles Retire

No problem with his output, he is heavily tagged week in week out, yet still delivers a standard a lot of AFL players only dream of.
I do question his Captaincy though. Think we can do better.

Gee he gets under rated by the media and supporters in this area. He is fantastic with the young players and how he educates them even during the game.

Watch him on Sat when the siren goes, rather than just celebrate he goes straight to Smith and tells him what he should have done with a kick near the end. GWS he comes off fatigued for a rest, goes straight to Grundy sitting on the bench and speaks to him about something he could have done better, before getting his water and sitting down.

The guy is a gun player and a gun Captain. Just because the media don't build him up like Hodge doesn't mean he isn't a good Captain - just watch him.
