Don't agree. For once we are on the front foot. Well worded and fair.
There are many in all clubs this must affect.

Why, is not the issue to discuss here, but it has to be acknowledged.

This tweet was sponsored by Claytons: The statement you make when you really don't want to make a statement.

I am not sure I want to start up an Australia Day debate here, but the statement reminds me of the club's position amid the marriage equality movement.

Carlton is clearly being deliberately cautious with its language in order to stay as neutral as possible. I don't agree with it, but I can understand why the club might do so. We seem to be at odds with most other clubs. I wonder who is driving our approach.

Maybe the club is in sponsorship discussions with Switzerland...?
Surely better to say nothing?

I can't fathom why they made that statement. Football teams are not compelled to make social media posts for every holiday on the calendar, and clearly they were sh1t scared of offending anyone, so why bother? Ignore it, rather than come across as completely spineless.

I something wonder if this club is capable of performing the most basic tasks without tripping over it's shoelaces.
We've a communication specialist in our board. Had heard she wasn't very effective. This would support that notion.

Looks a bit like that.

Either that or someone at Carlton is running for a political career ...

Its a bloody sporting club FFS How about we focus on ... oh I don't know ... SPORT!

Maybe when we get good at you know .. sport (AFL) we can consider branching out to be the white knights of industry ...

I don't mind the club taking a neutral stance. I have strong feelings about the issue, but I know not everyone else feels the same as I do.

But this isn't a neutral stance. This is spineless and meaningless.

We are literally the only club that tweeted without using any of the terms First Nations, Aboriginal, Indigenous or even Australia Day. It's so non-specific, we could re-tweet that to commemorate the day we received our salary cap punishments or the day we 'won' our first wooden spoon.

We worked REALLY hard at not saying anything, trying to paint the smallest possible target on our backs.

I am not saying the club HAS to take a stand. Or that they took the wrong stand. But there is a point where you're trying so hard not to offend anybody that it's a waste of everybody's time. IMHO.

I would rather organizations say nothing than have a communications person craft meaningless waffle from a position of fear of speaking out or taking a stand.

So the question is ... if you are going to say 5/8ths of **** all ... why bother saying anything??

I don't have faves, moreso types
How did I know you were going to come back with that? That is why the inverted commas. One of the boys you were banging on about as locks this time last year, the other has been delisted. Don’t see him as a lock anymore, personally wouldn’t play him with the need to develop kids and the addition of Cerra and Hewett to our experienced brigade, but he is 9 games shy of the magical 200 mark so that may give him a little “weighting” at the selection table.

Newnes doesn't keep getting offered contracts though. He had the first one and then triggered an extension built into the first one. Can't be who was being talked about.

You do realise my "best 22" changes from one year to another, yeah?

I didn't list Plow as a starting 22 in 2022, not sure who else you are eluding too. List them and I am happy to clarify any misconception

Edited:

Newnes was the other? Don't have him as starting 22 either

Gibbons the delisted player? Stated before the start of last year the he, along with Newnes, Newman, that they will play all games if they were fit. Newnes was dropped for 1 game, the rest never missed a game if they were fit

Then stated a week out of Gibbons being delisted that he was in trouble due to contract status

So, not sure what point you are trying to make

Just attempting to add to the recent conversation and carry on some pleasant interaction. Unfortunately too many on here can’t involve in a civil little chat without getting their knickers in a twist.

Not sure if this is the correct thread however i've seen that we've announced our AGM for Tuesday 22 February 2022 and with it there is a Director Election. As part of the voting, there are 4 candidates for election/re-election for 3 slots and i'm curious if anyone can shed any light on the 4th guy Bedri Sainovski? Seems like the club have endorsed him enough to be a candidate but don't recommend him.

There are three (3) positions available.
You must select up to three (3) candidates.

Bedri Sainovski
Greg Williams ✱
Luke Sayers ✱
Patty Kinnersly ✱

*Current director seeking re-election. The Board has endorsed each current director for re-election on the recommendation of the Independent Nominations Committee.

Board recommendation
Based on our interview, it is the opinion of the INC that Mr Sainovski does not have the necessary skill-sets or experience to make a significant contribution to the CFC Board and, consequently, we do not recommend him for election.
