Has anyone noticed the change in Lids' attitude this year?

I first noticed it in round 2 I think (might have been round 1), when the siren went and he took a wild swing at the ball in the air in frustration. Ever since that point he seems to have said to himself "I'm sick of losing, let's start winning some games" and has started attacking the game much more. He is in the best form of his career and is averaging a higher supercoach score than Dane Swan did last year.

I think the switch has flicked in his head, and he now has the players around him to actually make the most of his talent.

I mention this cos it ties in with him putting his hand up for the captaincy. The knock on Lids was that he never seemed to control a game and take it by the scruff of the neck. He is now playing the kind of game that you want out of your captain. His tackling all year has been immense as well. Is sticking a lot of big tackles and putting on heaps of pressure.

Maybe he has a whole new level to go to if he is made captain?

For the first time in a long time the RFC captaincy is not a one horse race. Lids might just get it over Cotchin (although I still think Trent will captain the club one day).

Brett is now almost complete, he now runs and tackles like a machine. Prob still needs to prove he can shake the hard tag and he's top 10 material.

Spoke to the buys before the bounce, is becoming a very good leader. Set the scene early too and then just played a monstrous game. Would be disappointed he missed one of those goals though. Could have kicked another one if Nahas passed backed to him straight away.

i think he's playing the best footy of his career, if only we had another of him to get on the end of our forward entries
tell that to his fiancé. true dat.
right now im so proud to have his number on my back.
i think the engagement has driven him to his best or maybe it's the thought of having success or maybe even because he wants to get the most out of himself. Whatever it is i'm happy because up until this point he's been a solid contributor and has those rare beast games once or twice a year. Now. He is deserving of that no.1 draft pick. He is deserving of those 2 b&fs.

Interview with deledio not to long back where he mentioned would like to captain club first time I heard it from him. Obviously stepped up and perhaps just might be the next tiger skipper

I don't go on this making a player captain will improve a player . A captain should inspire a club and it's not a role a player just falls into because they come out and announce they wish to do the job and are given , in hope it inspires them . Brett is playing very very good football however his attributes means that he does rely on others .
Unless inside his contract , or injury , I see little hope of him being our next captain .

I disagree in that, to me, your comment implies for his style of play to succeed he relies on others (to do what exactly i am not sure - feed him the ball? protect him when he has the ball?). As i am sure essendon would too. He is very capable of winning his own ball and be damaging when he does.

His ability to run happens to mean that he has that capacity to receive and run too, plus that has traditionally been what was required of him from his backline role in previous years. With his move up the ground he will only continue to win heaps more of his own ball and his chasing and tackling has become first class, so he can catch and kill his own.

He will always receive and carry because he has elite fitness and elite decision making and disposal, and so in that respect technically relies on others. But in my opinion, the team actually relies on him to be able to do that.

Deledio in midfield if far better than down back now we can afford it. Just needs to nail some of those shots at goal then we will look a lot different with another mid to tick score board over.

I think for a while there he was content with being the best player on our list, and may have inadvertedly dropped the intensity a little as a result.

Now with so much more talent on the list, I think he has to fight a little harder to make his mark, which is only a great thing.

Cotchin's development and Martin's potential could be best things to happen to him.

The complete player really, has developed into a top 20 player for mine. Just think, inside he has improved out of sight, yet his outside game is breathtaking. All these jokers have set opinions on him, but he has been amazing for a while, but now with the freedom of the midfield, being tagged or not, he does it all and every game too.

In my opinion the best kick in the game, consistent in his hitting of targets, he has so much penetration and depth in his kicking and he drills them too. He is a tall midfielder with an outstanding leap, great overhead mark and has jet like pace.

He is utilising all his qualities and also kicking goals. He is just a complete player now and forget about the nufties in the media who dont know their arse from their face, he is a high end top liner.

Yet Cotchin is better ;)

Deledio is a superstar.

Not sure he has changed much at all, apart from obvious natural maturing. The role he is asked to play has changed, as has the team around him.

Laughing at anyone who thinks he relies on others. One of the best contested ball winners in our club, and has been at that level for years, despite often not being asked to do that.
