With all the huha over whether Chris Judd will leave West Coast to come back home, I read in the Inside Footy this week that Essendon will make a huge push to get him to Windy Hill next season.

Personally I reckon he'll stay at in Perth, but in a hypothetical situation, Essendon would have to give up a lot to get him. So which players are in trouble in the trade talks this season?

Currently, Essendon has only 3 senior players from Perth - Paul Barnard, Cory McGrath & Dean Rioli, so only Rioli would be a real trade option there. So in my opinion a complicated 3 way deal with another club would be up.

Scott Lucas seems a sacrificial lamb at the moment, and clubs like Geelong, the Bulldogs and Melbourne would all try to get him this year I reckon. So would a trade for the #1 pick from which ever of these clubs finishes last for Scott Lucas, then on-trading the #1 pick to West Coast for Judd be on the cards? I'd hate to see Scotty playing for anyone else but Essendon, but we really don't have a choice these days.

Other than that, I really can't see Essendon competing with the cashed up clubs like Geelong, Melbourne, Hawthorn or the Dogs will be come the end of the season. (cashed up in the way that they will off-load alot of their older players, freeing up salary cap room)

Remember though we should be a bit more cashed up at the end of this season with Hird going on the veterans list. Also if a few older players retire, that would help us a bit more.
But even if a few of our older players do retire or are let go or traded still going to be damn hard for us to get him here.

Sorry for reopening this topic but the headline in the Herald Sun today said "Draft pool not deep". This effectively means that clubs wanting ruckmen or talls will be generally looking for already established players.

So perhaps Lucas to Geelong for their first round pick and James Bartel (or perhaps Spriggs, they have a lot of those whippet like midfielders).

And then we trade West Coast Rioli, Geelongs first round pick and Essendons first round pick. Perhaps they may also have use for Barney or C Mcgrath as well.

May sound like a lot to give up, but with the draft not deep it may be the best thing that we could do for the future of the club. A few things that would go our way.

Superstar J Hird (age 30), superstar M Lloyd (age 25), superstar C Judd (age 20).... has a nice smooth 5 year transition about it.

Also it will create some room in the best 22 for some younger players. And the addition of Judd plus Geelong whippet will provide plenty of speed.

It will also mean that we have effectively bulked up our "emerging star" stocks. This is always positive as it allows you to keep the best and trade the rest. It is always better to have players to trade then players who nobody else wants. This is the secret to good list management.

But if Judd does decide to move it will be very hard to beat Hawthorn to him. Hawthorn will possibly trade Jonathon Hay. And given the impending retirement of McIntosh that will probably look very appealing to the Weagles.

A couple of things:

Scott Lucas is not worth a first round draft pick.

WCE will do eveything in their power to convince him to stay. I believe they will succeed.

WCE will want a top 3 pick and an established KPP for Chris Judd at the least. He is THE PACKAGE.

I don't think we'd give Rioli away.

If we threw in Henneman as part of the deal, it'd be as funny as giving them Ridley and Delaney...

No, come to think of it actually, it wouldn't be.

i think there is one you are all missing....Sheedy and the bombers crank up young Perth Boy Courtney Johns, and he is just a rookie at this stage, I no West Coast were keen on him in draft period, but his injury scared em away..maybe now he is going ok maybe the bombers could elevate him then use him with a Rioli or Lucus for a trade, he is only 18 and has huge potential... Who Knows really!!!!

Lucas may be worth our first round pick, but plus Bartel or Spriggs

What are you guys smoking?

Bartel will be a quality player for another 10 years. He was a top 10 draft pick in a great year and has just started to blossom over the last two weeks. Spriggs' form over the last month has been great esp coming of his knee reco. Both players probably have 10 years of football ahead of them. Lucas has about 5 or 6.

Don't get me wrong I would love Lucas at Geelong but a trade involving our first pick plus Bartel/Spriggs is not going to happen.
