Everyone needs to stop carrying on about Brad Green, he was a champion player and looks a very intellegent and knowledgeable person. I personaly think he will be a very good assistant for our footy club. I dont kno what everyones vendetta is against him. He hasnt done anything to suggest he wont be good

People know that Green is just the development coach right?

Nope, despite this, he's clearly everything that is wrong with our footy club.

Well he certainly copped a few roastings on game day for just a development coach, anyway im not having a go a his intellect or playing career.

Where did he play most of his football to a pretty bloody high level? Forward.. why you wouldn't u have him in charge of the forwards is beyond me... Great kick to i believe, send him to casboult?

Id much rather have someone of the West or Ling calibre as our midfield coach someone who knows all the ins and outs and id imagine could develop the players slightly better.

Should have perhaps worded it better now ive reread it, was simply stating his 'knowledge' could be better served in a different area of player group.

sorry i upset you all.

has a bit of fire in the belly too does Bass. Not often coaches throw hands in the player race

They had a bit of trouble in the forward line, althought Lewis Johnston was stopping everything for North which helped... From the back half forward of centre though Norwood were clinical.... Bass gave a few an almighty roast for not running both ways as well, pretty to watch!

To good not to get a gig somewhere thats for sure.

Rucci (so probably a load of crap) saying 2 clubs chasing Bassett, with 1 even putting a contract in front of him to sign.

Fingers crossed it's us.

It has to be time the club spends more on the football department. You have to wonder about the development of high draft picks over the past 3-4 years. Is it simply poor recruiting or is the talent not being developed to the standard of other clubs? Many posters on here are not totally satisfied with level of improvement with the likes of Watson, Lucas and Bootsma. They each show promise, no doubt. Were McCarthy and Mitchell just no good or were they failed by the clubs lack of coaching and development? Will anyone at the club teach Casboult how to drop the ball on to his boot. Same for Hampson, but he is Richmond's problem now, thankfully. Will Bell get the attention he needs to refine his skills? And, does the VFL team structure aid youngsters to make the transition to the AFL side, like Geelong and Collingwood do so well.

Gavin Brown has left but his role will be replaced. But surely we have to get more coaches on board to fast track development and improve the skill level amongst the group. North Melbourne has more coaches then we do. Consider other Victorian teams that are perceived to "spend big" on their football departments. Carlton need to spend or risk being left behind.

This was our structure for coaching this past year:
Head coach
  • Mick Malthouse
Assistant coaches
  • Robert Wiley (director development and coaching)
  • John Barker (forward)
  • Gavin Brown (defence)
  • Matthew Capuano (ruck)
  • Brad Green (development)
  • Luke Webster (development/VFL)
  • Justin Cordy (high performance manager)
So we can quite obviously take Brown off the list. From what I am reading there, Green is a development coach and it appears that we have no one really concentrating on working with the midfielders. I wouldnt be too adverse to getting in Scott West or Neeld to work with our midfield if they are interested. West would being a level of hardness that some of our mids lack to the table and I reckon that he would be trying to instill that hardness into those mids. Neeld could work with the outside mids on structures and setups for getting their hands on the ball after an inside mid dishes it out.

If Green is the guy who is supposed to be working on skills development, he has a fair amount to answer for.

It has been reported today that Neeld has said no to joining Carlton.

Hope we get Basset as we are looking very under-done in the Assistants.

Bassett is going to WCE or Essendon according to news.com.au

We also have James Golds (his son Tim is on the GWS list) in player development.

The poor guy looked like he was on the cusp of a massive stroke this year. I think he is scarred for life after coaching one of the worst teams ever. He is probably rocking back and forth in his straight jacket now.

I'd be very happy if we could secure Bassett and Black as assistants (if he retires)

What if he reports it in a forest and the story falls over and nobody hears it - was it ever reported?
would that be anywhere near the franklin? Dam it.... I will show myself out.
