I was talking to them.

They have the best of everything in every department, make all the right decisions and only recruit stars for bargains....

Some how they only won 1 flag and have just been making up numbers.

I never will understand their logic.

For people that cannot count pass five, which is more than the number of teeth they have, logic is not exactly their priority.

MM doesn't suffer fools, he would have cast off Barker if he was of no use. He's made good decisions where ever he has gone to build successful organisations. He's going down the same path at our great club as well as seen with some great list management over the last month. He has a plan by moving Barker to the backs and bringing Laidley in that will improve us, that's good enough for me. Our clubs is in great hands. I will go with our coaches call on Barkers worth rather than people on these boards that have never sat in team meetings or a coaches box with Barker but are passing judgement on him.

Out of curiosity, and not having any knowledge about this, has Mick made any noticeable errors in judgement in regards to appointing his coaching staff previously?

Only Malthouse would really know.
Anyone that lasted a year or less would have likely been moved on.

Carlton’s coaching structure for 2014 will now be as follows:

Michael Malthouse – Senior Coach
Rob Wiley – Director of Coaching & Development
Dean Laidley – Midfield Coach (newly appointed)
Brad Green – Forward Line Coach (new role)
John Barker – Back Line Coach (new role)
Exclusive to carltonfc.com.au

Just noticed: Where's Capuano?

EDIT: Just checked on the web-site. He's now listed as development coach as opposed to ruck coach.

I had to do the same the other day. Thought maybe he left us too. But all good. Webster and Capuano development. McKay did mention last week we wanted a Brown replacement and a development coach. So fingers crossed there's another development coach on the way. It's vital. Development is just as or maybe even more important than recruiting IMO.

Talk about pathetic, there is an entire thread on the Collingwood board devoted to Laidley's appointment at Carlton. WTF?
Take a look at the latest additions. Holy cow.

I find it amusing that appointing a person who has had 24 years in the system as a player & coach, only 3 of which were spent at Collingwood, is apparently further evidence of MM trying to turn us into Collingwood.

We've spent much of this year talking about the cult which is Essendope, led by 'The Leader' Hird, but I'll tell you what, the 'Great Gonzo' ,Eddie McGuire, has got his people believing they are the centre of the universe. Do those nongs forget that both Robert Harvey & Matty Lappin are ex-Carlton assistant coaches (Lappin an ex-player as well) & they have in recent years had Chris Bryan & Jordan Russell on their playing list?

well well well........ Brad Green as the forward line Coach Hallelujah!!!! they have obviously been reading my posts on here...

And Dean Laids as midfield coach.... hah!!

If the backline falls apart watch the masses seek Barkers blood......

2014 cant come quick enough!

Not to mention we recruited Andrejs Everitt this year from the Swans. Where the brothers of two Collingwood (well, one ex-Collingwood now) players play. Sam Docherty as well who played at Brisbane the same year as Ben Hudson did who, surprise surprise, now plays for Collingwood.

All about the 6 separations of Collingwood.

Apparently all roads lead there.

I find it amusing that they don't understand the value of networks. Mick is drawing quality to the club, of course within that there will be linkages to where he spent 10+ years at.

Safe to say they are in for a long shit ****ing year in 2014....they may as well get in now because there will be no joy when the season starts.

Nice to see new recruits in the navy blue polo one by one.
Welcome Deano :thumbsu:

Still waiting for Daisy! o_O

We have really capitalised on disgruntled employees this year and full credit to those at the helm. Docherty, Thomas, Everitt (after not being offered a contract until Jed Lamb wanted to go as I understand it, and MM going out of his way to meet him and convince him to come to us), and now Laidley. That trade period has success written all over it. Very much like the proactive Hawks and Swans of the past 5 years. The reason for this post, and it is very premature... is there intentions, or how do we feel, about Laidley as a succession plan to MM? Previous coach under MM, has senior coach experience, very well respected, rules with an iron fist, would have more resources to work with at our club as opposed to NM, was a ruthless competitor and will bring that shinboner spirit to our club. I am very boyant of the idea of this and I think this is just an unbelievable steal from the Saints and we have (I think) potentially carpe diem'd our succession plan here.

Laidley has stated publicly multiple times he doesn't want to be a senior coach ever again.

Plus they have a member of the Pratt family on their board who donated over $10 mill to the club.

They conveniently forget that & then they argue that he has his own company & is in no way associated with Visy. The reality is, said person is on the board at Visy & couldn't be more closely entwined with the Pratt family if he tried.

He should have been paid 10 mill for marrying in.
Princess Anne comes to mind
