While it was an emotional time, and whether you agree with the decision or not, most would agree that the dismissal of Grant Thomas and appointment of Ross Lyon was done at the right time.

Geelong had a similar epiphany about the same time and decided to hang on to Thompson. A decision that was very good for the Cats.

Hawthorn went very scientific in their approach to player and coaching recruitment and they quickly capitalised on their efforts.

Now with the Gold Coast team, a possible West Sydney team depleting the number of available candidates and Richmond, North Melbourne with coaching vacancies to be filled, and other clubs like Collingwood, Port Adelaide, and Western Bulldogs yet to re-sign their incumbent coaches, I am so glad we are not searching for a new coach now. The must also be question marks on Melbourne, Sydney, Fremantle,

We are well placed to capitalise on so many other clubs rebuilding once they get their new coaches. If we can maintain a good degree of stability to our playing group we may benefit over the next few years by virtue of having so few opposition clubs in a position to challenge us.

It is premature to suggest Geelong are on the decline, but they are not the totally unbeatable team they appeared to be over the last two and a half years.

Who are stable ATM? (I mean who will retain their coach for the forseeable future and not undertake a player rebuild).

St Kilda
Geelong
Hawthorn
Adelaide
Essendon
Brisbane
West Coast

Probably stable

?Carlton
?Collingwood
?Western Bulldogs
?Melbourne
?Gold Coast

Big question marks

??Fremantle
??Sydney
??Port Adelaide

Coach needed now

???North Melbourne
???Richmond
???West Sydney

I looked for a minute at 18 teams and thought old Gandalf had lost it, but then noticed Gold Coast and West Sydney.:D

I know that Port have put an offer on the table for Williams but he hasn't taken it yet. Is he looking to a job at Collingwood or NOrth?

I'm not sure that Mark Harvey is in a massive amount of trouble. I think they realise that the team is young and terrible so they will cut him some slack.

I think Roos is safe at Sydney until his contract is up. Not sure when that is though, but he has some brownie points still in reserve from the premiership.

Have no idea what Collingwood are doing. Are they waiting to see if they can sign Buckley as an assistant and then sign Malthouse or what?

Oh and I am sure the Saints are thinking about dumping Ross Lyon. I mean 15-0, what's up with that?

I know Lyon's safe, but I'm concerned about clubs making moves on our assistants. I'm surprised Silvagni's name hasn't been tossed around as a possible senior coach, and Tudor would be well worth poaching.

BREAKING NEWS - by Craig Hutchison

We can now exclusively reveal that St Kilda assistant coaches Steven Silvagni and Leigh Tudor are high up the list for the vacant coaching positions at North Melbourne and Richmond.

Undisclosed sources close to the club have exclusively confirmed to us that "Lyon is safe, but they would be worth poaching".

I was concerned about this too :(

:D Well played.

I'm loving the timing of it more than anything, Rock left to go back to North, they're floundering outside the 8, Barker left to go back to Hawthorn and they're a shadow of their former selves, meanwhile we're 15-0. I am loving this off field stability we've gotten, no week;y press conference of what side of the bed Buttss got out of, no mega movie experience, no players going out to get blind drunk during a week, relative silence, and that is music to my ears.

On Freo, and while this may sound ignorant I don;t exactly think that their problems can be solved just by dumping a coach, something just seems wrong in that development group.

I've been giving a Hawthorn supporting mate all manner of hell, when Barker was hired last year my mate declared the Hawks forward line 'idiot proof'.

They can't take em off us this year, so as long as we get there this year I couldn't care where they went next year!

But yeah, I reckon some of our assistants defs have a shot at other coaching positions in the future.

If we win, they can take Lyon, our assistants and half our playing list as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't care if the whole club decided to spent 2010 at the beach. Is that so wrong?

this isn't necessarily a bad thing, if one of them goes could open the door for someone like laidley or bucks to come in as a senior assistant.
