Can we please end the Maxwell experiment? Bring back Cam White!

You've gotta be joking. White made about 11 runs prior to his last innings in 18 months. Look up 'out of form' in the dictionary and you'll find a pic of Cam White (may also appear under 'horribly bereft of confidence').

Thank god for Hughes.

I guess some people didn't quite pick up on the sarcasm...

No idea why we played Maxwell, especially as a batsman. Would have though it would of been a good opportunity to get a specilaist batsman in at number 6.

Very interesting to hear Brett Geeves' comments on 3LO re the make-up of the test side ad who would go to India.

He basically said that Moses doesn't do enough through the air for a guy of his pace at test level. But goes well at one day level. So a no for him as a test all rounder.

He said he thought Watson should plat at 6. And down the track bowl a little.

Rumours flying around about Khawaja and not being selected too.

How the hell does that spud Brayshaw get a gig commentating at the cricket? I don't think I heard him say anything interesting, relevant, or even remotely funny.

Has far more right to commentate on cricket than he does footy.

...still shouldn't be there.

I just looked him up. He's got a very respectable first class record. Actually, on paper at least, he's a better player than I remember him being. Perhaps because he's such an arse clown now, and with North and all, any sporting credibility he might have had is now gone.

Hats off to Starc giving the IPL a miss

"My focus is playing for Australia and IPL can wait. For me playing for Australia has always been the dream and I've got a chance to do that now. We've got a big 12 months coming and personally I'd rather take those six weeks to get myself ready for the winter over in England if I get the chance to go over there and for the summer back home. I made the decision to go over to England last year to work on my game [with Yorkshire], and this year it's the smart option to take the six weeks to recuperate and get my body right and strong to go."

Starc has been held up by Inverarity and Howard as an example of how a young bowler can successfully be pushed up from a first-class apprenticeship into regular national duty via his judicious use on selected tours. They will be grateful that his thinking has extended to skipping the IPL.

Whats more worrying for mine is that Watson will be there bowling

David Warner is in. Michael Clarke and Matthew Wade probably are also. Not only will Shane Watson be there, he will be there bowling. Ryan Harris will be there trying to remind the world that he still can bowl. James Pattinson is headed there too. Michael Hussey will be there to remind Australian cricket of what it is missing. But Mitchell Starc will be a notable absentee.

guys im not a big cricket fan but do you think the appeal of international cricket has waned ?

ok the ashes and such are still anticipated but in the nineties crowds would turn up forvany odi

i remember the three way contests had respectable crowds for such as india v sri lanka, we even had the australia v australia a final, which was so contrived

does anyone think its probably never going to get back to that and inernational cricket should be rationed t make it "special"

the problem with that is while the next level of cricket is needed to develop players, it willnever pay its way.

One alternative may be to firmulate club and international club competitions where each game has some meaning.

we have the big bash, ipl and perhaps other competitions. they could be linkes somehow in some kind of conference arrangement whereby there are local and an international trophy

hey we mightbeven be able t fill the london olympic stadium with cricket fans like we do in india and australia

thered be conflicts over plyer availbility between the various levels, but each game would have more meaning, and internationals - whatever form they are - would be eagerly anticipated

For mine the market for cricket has not grown at the same pace as the growth in cricket products (against the wildest hopes of CA). This has caused, in part, bizarre scheduling of BBL alongside test cricket. Where once you had 5-6 tests and a single short-form series, you are now offered the same number of tests plus a one day series, T20 and BBL. All the introduction of T20 and BBL appears to have done for cricket is cannibalise ODI cricket. I'd actually rather they make T20 just a domestic competition and get rid of the international versions. Watching guys bowl defensively and not value their wicket is the same spectacle at international and domestic level so why should we pay top dollar for it?

A rather silly article on the News ltd sites actually sums up the summer thus far pretty well:

I kinda like this bit:

"The simple fact is that players must be rested from the rigours of endless cricket in the modern era. If anyone understands this, it is our national chairman of selectors, John Inverarity, who wisely played just six Test matches in a distinguished 23 year career as a first class cricketer."

Anyway...on a slightly different subject:

Which bright spark decided not to schedule any serious cricket on the Aus Day weekend? Two x T20's really doesn't cut it.

John Inverarity, a supposedly intelligent man, headmaster at Pembroke School, etc. This "intelligent" person considered himself to be a little on the light side, so he took up smoking because he heard that when you give it up, you put on weight. He's using a similar logic with the rotation policy.

For years I've been an advocate for abandoning international cricket for one season and concentrating on cricket at local level, Sheffield Shield, etc.

Cricket Australia needs to not only get the public interested in Sheffield Shield again, but also the players. I've wanted this because I see a real problem in the development of players for future Australian teams. We only need to observe the waning standard of the current Australian team in comperison with only 5 or so years ago. Players are not coming through the system, ready to play Test cricket.

To add an international flavour we could allow each state to contract one, perhaps two, players from overseas to strengthen the competition. It would allow our fringe players more exposure to international players, not just overseas but here in Australia.

Ian Chappell has always said the strength of Australian cricket was that as a young player, he was able to play against Test players, not only at Shield level, but also at Grade level, and this doesn't happen now. I agree with him 100%.

Just got back from my local cricket club. For some reason, they decided to celebrate Australia Day with a T20 game, and my word ..... I've never seen such crap.

What is it about T20 that batsmen seem totally unable to hit a ball along the ground? Heads in the air, they either hit catches or miss altogether and get bowled by a straight one. All day, balls and bails flying in the air, it was so mind numbingly boring I left before the end.

I am so glad I never had to play that rubbish. I prefer cricket.

I dislike clown cricket vehemently. So this T20 game is little more than a distraction, but can't help but think what a weak, undistinguished line-up we're fielding.

Get used to it. If CA allow things to travel the way things are, that's how our Test team is going to look.

I played a Twenty20 game today... nice to hit a ball about but kind of like eating junk food.
