What is going on with poor old North Melbourne?

We constantly hear from their ultra small, yet loyal supporter base how much young talent this side has... yet the results are really showing otherwise at the moment under their new coach.

After a 70 point hiding against the Bulldogs last week, you'd think that old so called 'Shinboner Spirit' would show itself today in a big game in Perth... yet sadly for them they are already trailing by 78 points here in the third quarter.

Is Brad Scott the answer? Is this list of players disillusioned with the current game plan? Or are their players just not good enough?

An interesting time for a club bordering on crisis. How can they expect to lure new supporters with a continuing run of pisspoor performances like this?

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Young side playing the best interstate team at present over there. Scott has been excellent in putting faith in his young midfield group and they should return the favour. Just for the record howd that young Essendon side go against Adelaide in the final last year?

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

The team looks WAY top heavy. Not based on any stats, but just the feeling I get watching them play this year.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Too many VFL level plodders and a coach who doesn't know what he's doing (eg. bringing in 4 talls this week). The most important thing right now is North fans turning up next week, the last thing they need is a crowd of 14,000 for their home game against Brisbane.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Looking back at it we were not actually that bad against Freo at Etihad. Good team they are. North are bad, like Melbourne last year.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

As a Roo, it is not good enough full stop and any fair dinkum supporter would admit that.

The midfield would be the youngest by a country mile but other than that it is an application issue. The new gameplan is dogs balls at the moment and if it works in the future I am sure we will all look on and go "what the .." but if it doesn't the ride will be as crap as the past 7 years under Laidley.

There is a lot of talent at the Roos, probably need to add two quick skilful mids to round it off and plug 50 more games into the group.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Talent and experience

This, it's just like people over here carrying on about sacking Worsfold. Wouldn't matter if Matthews was coaching North, they would still be struggling and end up bottom 6 at best.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

There are worse teams in the league for sure and North can be decent on their day but I've never seen a team run the white flag up the pole quicker than that mob.

Ever since the 2007 finals series where they sandwiched a great win over Hawthorn with two very piss weak efforts against Geelong and Port. They consistently stick the cue in the rack and get throttled.

It has now spanned two coaches so I can't figure it out myself.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

I don't know why people think if we were the Gold Coast Kangaroos we would be winning?

Look, Freo are good at the moment and playing good footy.

North are average at the moment and playing bad footy.

4 lanky ruckmen, in which 1 is useless(Hale).
A young and inexperienced midfield in Ziebell, Swallow, Bastinac and Cunnington.

Home advantage to Freo, not an excuse but it doesn't help us in anyway.

We will never win these sort of games playing the type of footy we have seen in the past few weeks. I don't expect us to, even though it is extremely frustrating.

We are basically at where Essendon was 2 years ago, which was crap.

It is going to take time, but for now it is just painful.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Great decision to bring in 3 big men who were probably underdone in Petrie, McIntosh & Hale for a game at Subiaco.

Some genius coaching by Brad Scott.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Freo are a good side this year, North have a new coach, an inexperienced team and it's ten games into the season. At the end of this round they'll be only four points behind Essendon who seem to be treading water - So why are North the club in crisis?

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

North going to the GC would have been a disaster.
They would have probably lost 30% of their Melbourne supporters and not picked that amount up on the GC.
A new club up there will get many new members whereas North on the coast wouldn't have gotten expats from Southern States joining as they would still follow their existing clubs.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Midfield consisting of blokes like Zeibell, Cunngton and Bastinac will get smashed from time to time but give them a few years and it will be one of the best midfields in the comp. In the middle of rebuilding and a new coach, they need at least a year before we can really judge them. The team is heading the right direction but i'm not too sure about the club.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

I refer to it as the Laidley years being known as 'the lost years', we have very little development in guys like Hale, MacIntosh, Wells all top ten draft picks who are treading water, Brad Scott has good kids like Bastinac, Ziebell, Hansen Cunnington and has them playing 'good habit' footy, Scotts biggest problem is getting the older guys out of playing 'bad habit' footy.
Harvey sits out the last with a elbow injury?, he needs to have a chat to Archer or Carey or Stevo or Matty Larkin, or Wayne Schimmelbusch.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Arrogant and pretentious coach. Slow midfield and and a poor forward line. They have an excellent defence but that won't be enough and I tipped them for second last this season before the start of the season for those very reasons.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

i really wish we were playing essendon this week, but anyways...

we're 4-6, which is probably better than a lot of people would have picked. though, getting smashed the way we have isnt good, even it has been against top teams. hardly 'crisis' mode though.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Why were we smashed?

Inexperience, against probably the best team at home this season thats sitting equal top of the ladder.

You sound as if you are surprised?

You would of predicted this pre-season no doubt?

Or are you just really here to stick the boots in?

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Of course they are sticking the boots in. Because the team is very poor and has a dim outlook. Over rated rookie coach, below average senior players, run of the mill kids, boring gameplan, no supporters , blow hard president lacking in business acument, etc. You are just an easy target.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

What's with all the Essendon hatred of North?

Being 4-6 with their young team and a new coach is a decent start.

Amazing how Essendon supporters become arrogant off the back of a few wins.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Where is this young talent I hear so much about ?

Ziebell gets a lot of good PR but he is miles behind guys like Beams, Sidebottom and Zaharakis who were all drafted after him.
Hansen looks undersized (height wise) to be a KPP. Developing into a poor mans Chad Cornes.
Cunnington needs a lot more time. 13 possessions at 31% today is horrible. Should not be playing at AFL level at the moment.

They lack gorillas in the key defensive posts. Thompson tries hard but he should be on the 3rd best forward. Not the best forward.
Hale is hit and miss up forward as is Edwards when he plays. Hard to expect Petrie to do much this year after missing a good chunk of the year.

They don't have a player I would classify as dynamic. They''ve drafted too many inside midfielders in my opinion and need outside runners that can break lines desperately.

Season has gone to shite and the scary thing is I cant see much on the horizon either.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Scott is what NM need right now in a sense. He has a positive attitude, enjoys being in the media and builds NM up very well. His only problem is that he is being smashed consistently. For a team of 4 - 6 you may think that is not bad. However they have the 2nd worst percentage in the league which leads most to lead to the conclusion that NM are just not being competitive.

Answer: NM do a Port type arrangement in Laidley and Willo both pretty much coaching the side. Scott is the perfect front. He is just getting found out when he actually has to coach.

As for those NM fans who crap on about all the youth they have. Well as soon as those guys hit there straps then Petrie, Harvey and Rawlings will all be gone and players like Wells will be slowing down.

Laughing at some of the efforts of NM fans trying to defend themselves on here though :D:D:D
