Epic ****ing movie. I was amazed.

also I think this would be a good shot for next batman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mask_(comics)

blackmask.

Knowledge, you never disappoint. Top choice.

I was wondering what they'd do for the next one. I think Bane would be too over the top, Riddler would suck, Penguin has been done, Catwoman would be average....

Black Mask would be awesome.

Oh, I didn't think of Black Mask. He'd fit perfectly in the Nolan take on it.

What about including Anarky in some form?

Did anyone catch the subtle remark from Fox when he was talking to Bruce Wayne about the new batsuit? Something along the lines of 'itl hold up against chuiauhas, pitbulls... even cats'.
Could possibly be an indication of introducing catwoman for the third but i think that would be a terrible idea and i doubt the writers would go with it after Halle butchered tht role a while back. Im all for them doing a character that hasnt been done yet, like they did with scarecrow in BB. The Phillip Seymore Hoffman for Penguin Train also seems to be gathering some steam...

Where did you read that? I just mentioned it a few posts ago, but that was just me thinking out loud that I think he'd be a fantastic actor/character combo.

One thing that The Dark Knight has taught me about sueprhero flicks, is that you need quality character actors like Ledger/Hoffman etc. because when you just choose actors that can only really play one role i.e. Jim Carrey, Halle Berry, Arnie etc. it just comes across as that actor, playing dress ups.

Hoffman for Penguin would be a great choice though. If it isn't him, I don't think they should do Penguin though. Black Mask would be awesome. They could get Edward Norton for it, would be perfect (Norton originally tried to land the Harvey Dent role but was passed over for Eckhardt).

Sigh of relief, no Catwoman or Penguin in the series:

In response to speculation that Philip Seymour Hoffman was approached for the role of the Penguin, as a British arms dealer in The Dark Knight, franchise director Christopher Nolan said he considered the character difficult to portray on film, explaining, "I'd be more excited to have Philip Seymour Hoffman in the film than to have the Penguin. There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky."[3] Recently, viral marketing for the Dark Knight included a Gotham Times newspaper, featuring a newspaper ad for the Iceberg Lounge, one of the Penguin's businesses. Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, preferring to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen.

Opens the door for the Black Mask too.

The idea has been floated around many movie websites, mainly cause it is the next logical step as per Burtons movies but also a blindingly obvious casting choice - Hoffman is held in as high regard as Ledger is/was and he also fits the physicality of the penguin. You're right though, whoever gets the gig as villain for Batman 3 will have to be a quality actor above anything else. The bar has been set by ledger and theres no way the producers are going to go out and grab a Danny Devito or even an Arnold Schwartzenegger for the role. Even Jack Nicholson was just playing an extension of himself with his version of the joker, that is why ledger's portrayal is all the more commendable because it is so far removed from who he is.

I'd actually like to see Hoffman in the next batman cause i think he is an awesome actor (those who caught 25th hour last night will know), but as a new character, someone we are not expecting. Also i only just read about black mask then on wikipedia and it seems his character also has a penchant for him and his cronies wearing masks.. Do you think they'l realy go with another masked supervillain after the scarecrow and joker and crew in the last 2? the themes sound pretty familiar but could be good.

Damn, nice find i hadn't read that. well thats pretty much what i believe as well. Some characters (ie Catwoman, penguin) need to be laid to rest for good). TIme for something new.

PS Seems Nolan might be interested in PSH, but as an entirely new character. The third will have to be something pretty heckin'g special to surpass the second.

I've got 25th Hour on dvd, top movie. Norton at his best.

Yes I did. With Rachael out of the way, the door is open for a new romantic interest for batman...Catwoman or even Talia al Ghul.

The Riddler would be a sentimental favourite. I read on wiki there was reference to him in one of the TDK newspapers.

A Two Face/ Deadshot combination would be my choice for a third film.

I'm pretty sure Harvey Dent is dead

Might be nothing but when Bruce asked Fox to make him a new suit "Would it defend against dogs" "Should be fine against Cats" could be a hint towards Catwoman in the next

Nice pick up...wouldn't mind seeing Michelle Pfeiffer in the Cat suit again...she might be pushing 50 but she still looks great and she did say after "Batman Returns" that she would be interested in reprising the role in the future...since the character's fate in that movie was sort of left open ended (she had two "lives" left). Ofcourse, these current Batman films are of a new continuity, separate from the 1989/90s flicks.

Well The Dark Knight is now officially IMDB's greatest movie, at No.1 on the Top 250.

A rating of 9.7 from 23,611 votes.

A few thoughts:

1. As has been mentioned previously, Ledger was flawless. Litterly flawless. Will get an Oscar nomination, and prob will win it. He virtually made Batman a supporting figure in this film, which isn't easy to do.

2. Great script. The dialogue in this film is sensational, the writers deserve a lot of credit.

3. The film is not perfect. It is prob 20-30mins too long. The whole Harvey Dent thing at the end didn't need to be done in this film, I would've preferred if his change to twoface happened in another film. Which leads me to my next criticism, I didn't believe in twoface's "evilness/pain". This was partly due to the lack of chemistry between his character and that of Rachel Dawes. It seemed to me that they were just kind of dating, didn't seem like it was anything serious at all. We see them have a romantic dinner and peck here and there but their relationship did not seem strong at all. Next thing you know he's proposed to her and has done a complete 180 on his character from a righteous, incoruptable figure to a murderer. I'd liken it to Anakin Skywalker's transformation in the last Star Wars film. Just didn't seem believable to me.

Other than those couple of things I loved everything about the film. Certainly lived up to my massive expectations.

Agreed with this. Strangely enough, for a 150 minute movie, it could have been a little longer, or 30 minutes shorter. They didn't flesh out Harvey quite enough to be totally believable. They kind of ended up making the Nolanverse Batman 2.5 with this one.

That is my only slight complaint - overall, I was blown away. Always something going on, great performances, brilliant movie :thumbsu:
