Bloody farmers.

They've been crying poor about drought for years, praying for rain. Now they get it in bucket-loads and they're crying about floods FFS!!!

Are these guys ever happy?

Yep- guy called O'Brien nailed this in a post some time ago

"We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "Before the year is out.
"The crops are done; ye'll have your work To save one bag of grain; From here way out to Back-o'-Bourke They're singin' out for rain.
"They're singin' out for rain," he said, "And all the tanks are dry." The congregation scratched its head, And gazed around the sky.
"There won't be grass, in any case, Enough to feed an ass; There's not a blade on Casey's place As I came down to Mass."
"If rain don't come this month," said Dan, And cleared his throat to speak-- "We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "If rain don't come this week."
A heavy silence seemed to steal On all at this remark; And each man squatted on his heel, And chewed a piece of bark.
"We want a inch of rain, we do," O'Neil observed at last; But Croke "maintained" we wanted two To put the danger past.
"If we don't get three inches, man, Or four to break this drought, We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "Before the year is out."

In God's good time down came the rain; And all the afternoon On iron roof and window-pane It drummed a homely tune.
And through the night it pattered still, And lightsome, gladsome elves On dripping spout and window-sill Kept talking to themselves.

It pelted, pelted all day long, A-singing at its work, Till every heart took up the song Way out to Back-o'Bourke.
And every creek a banker ran, And dams filled overtop; "We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "If this rain doesn't stop."
And stop it did, in God's good time; And spring came in to fold A mantle o'er the hills sublime Of green and pink and gold.
And days went by on dancing feet, With harvest-hopes immense, And laughing eyes beheld the wheat Nid-nodding o'er the fence.
And, oh, the smiles on every face, As happy lad and lass Through grass knee-deep on Casey's place Went riding down to Mass.
While round the church in clothes genteel Discoursed the men of mark, And each man squatted on his heel, And chewed his piece of bark.
"There'll be bush-fires for sure, me man, There will, without a doubt; We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, "Before the year is out."

Shit thread.

Seen a status on Facebook the other day that went "To all the greedy Eastern states that rape the Murray before it can get to S.A... Got enough water now?"

Without those bloody eastern states, what would SA be eating? ;)

Plenty of oranges I suppose :p

I love it how in Australia our socks get moist and we label it a flood. That isnt a flood, thats just a big ass puddle. Flood involves flowing water, life at risk, not a fricken extra load of laundry

Well seeing as people have died in this flood, i would say that has put lives at risk. Plus there is a hell of a lot of flowing water.

Dont believe everything you read mate.

A puddle can flow, aslong as its created at the top of the hill. Australia loves nothing more than to blow things out of proportion. This is another example

So i should believe people didnt die?:confused:

4 people died, but 3 of those were car accidents caused by the "floods". Its a long piece of string is all im saying. Id place a greater blame on tyre manufacturers than any rain

So by your reasoning a puddle is a flood?

You know the farmers, if it's not the drought it's the rains and if it's not the rains it's the drought and if it's not the hares it's the locusts and if it's not the locusts it's the hares.

I'm guessing you're a keyboard warrior and havent actually been to any of the areas declared a natural disaster zone, have you?

I drove from Melbourne to Canberra last weekend and stopped off in Gundagai to check out the Murrumbidgee River. It was unbelievable the amount of water flowing through there. And it was all headed to Wagga. Wagga is seriously flooded out. Cant really imagine what it's like for more flooded areas further up north.

I know there's a couple of Albury posters on here and I was thinking last weekend how lucky that place is. Last summer, Beechworth was hammered by Black Saturday and this summer, Wagga is flooded out. And, Albury in the middle misses out somehow.

You are an idiot. I take it you have never been in a situation like these people in the Eastern States have been in over the past couple of weeks. 10 or so years ago I was in a town that flooded, yes flooded, and let me tell you it was not a pleasant experience. No lives were lost directly from the flood, but our whole town was completely under water and the water was travelling through town at approx. 50 km/h. Houses were wrecked and people lost all their possessions. It took a week for the water to get away from town.

So before you make rediculous statements like that, live through a bloody scary situation like a flood first, and maybe then you can comment!!!

I was told by a reliable source last year that the Murray was going to flood, the evidence presented was compelling and stood the test of time. The guy who made the prediction did so based on the Pelicans at the arse end of the Murray were nesting as high as they could, which they don't normaly do ( also strange because thier was no water at that point)

Same bloke rekons we aint seen nuffin yet!

He says it himself folks - don't believe everything you read. His posts are an example. It may not have much on other floods - even previous floods in Wagga - but a floods a flood. Lol @ sue the tyre manufacture. Obviously didn't see some of the roads in Wagga.

Bad logic. How would pelicans know whats happening hundreds of kms upstream in other dams - it isnt a 'natural' flood.

Badder logic!
There's a bird that gets bred at Macquarie Island and when its old enough to leave the nest it migrates to Russia...........comes back to breed
No one shows it the way nor sells it a GPS. It just knows!
Elephants can smell a water hole deep into the kalahari deserts summer, hundreds of k's away!
The White Shark can navigate itself from one continent to another always turning up when baby seal season is on.....please show me its diary.......:D

Im not the one comparing a loss of carpet to a loss of life here. Sure its a problem, but disaster hardly.

When 1900 people die and your left with a 40 billion dollar cleanup bill, thats a flood and a natural disaster. What you experienced is nothing more than a storm, with extra water involved

So 1800 deaths and 39 billion dollars is not a flood?
