The reason SANFL and WAFL do not just hand over the keys to the AFL is the same reason a body telling the three leagues what to do would never have worked.

History says there was such a body .

You are deluded in terms of what the Sydney revenue is worth.

You cannot read a simple reply .
History says that when South Melbourne moved to Sydney there was no Sunday football TV . The Swans had the sole AR market for Sundays .Sydney only received a single club share .That money kept a lot of VFL clubs afloat .

The problem with NSW and QLD is that the market is already congested.

What has this to do with giving money to grassroots or the reinforcing of second tier competitions ? IMO the NEAFL is a good vehicle for the NT ,NSW and QLD .

We are not going to throw in the entire hand and hope to draw a half decent one.

What drugs are you on ?
I'm talking about measures that really have nothing to do with the daily operation of the AFL , just grassroots and second competitions getting a leg up !

City and Spurs are CHALLENGING. Spurs played Champions League last year and City will this year. Heck, Birmingham were relegated but they won the League Cup and will compete in Europe.

So by being in the top 4 they're "challenging", which is what every AFL club has managed to do at some point in the past 10 seasons, whereas in that same timeframe, only 8 different EPL clubs have finished in the top 4, and only 5 times has it been team outside the "big 4". Manchester United and Arsenal haven't missed the top 4 at all in that timeframe either. So the argument that it is dominated by only 4 teams is absolutely a relevant one.

When was the last time a promoted team in the English FA actually won a title?

It is dominated by four teams. Everybody else is more or less an afterthought.

1995 - Blackburn Rovers. They were actually promoted to the top flight in 1992. They remain the only club outside of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man. U to win the Premier League.

The arguments around the EPL are missing the point when we look at who has challenged for the Premiership lately, the EPL is dominated by money now and this can easily be managed by not allowing the buying of clubs as with Manchester City, Chelsea etc.

As for the local leagues and the promotion model it could work, and as some have said, Norwood, East Fremantle, Perth, Glenelg were easily far more dominant and stronger clubs before the VFL to AFL expansion than Western Bulldogs, Richmond, North Melbourne and co. BUT we are here now.

The important aspect is the continued relevance of local leagues and look to the future whereby a second tier comp could exist. Does anyone really not want Tassie, NT, possibly another WA side not to come in?? Regional VIc team. But importantly this doesn't have to be a subsidiary of the AFL.

And this is where the article from Collins was heading. The re-establishment of the National Federation of Australian Football would be the right body to set this up. Importantly, Andy is focusing on the fact that the codes and rules of the game should not be set by one of the leagues. THIS is at the heart of his argument that is 100% correct.

AFL is a Victorian dominated sport largely because the other states do not add as much as they should to it, in terms of revenue, in terms of participation, etc.

Cool, is that an invite for us all to have a fair share?
WA can merge the 8 original WAFL sides into 4 AFL clubs and recruit from our zones, SA can have 3 or 4 teams too, Tassie 1, Maybe even NT! Sorry AFL if we are getting a fair share your extra teams in QLD & NSW might not add up. :D
