another leading night at the Brownlow for Swanny recognising his amazing output and abilities even in his twilight years.
It has been disappointing to see the number of knockers he has attracted on this forum this year, with many calling for his head throughout a year where he :
- averaged in the high twenties for possessions,

- finished second for the Pies in the coaches award and
- was named in the AA squad .
Highlights universal recognition from opposition coaches, the umpires, and expert panels of former greats of his great talents.
Why do a lot of people who call themselves Pies supporters constantly bag him?

Thought he's been pretty well praised here over the last year or so. He's currently 32 or 33 votes away from being the highest polling player in Brownlow history. Probably doesn't quite have that many votes left in him but two more solid seasons could see him go very close.

His only flaw has been a few lazy kicks and as a result turnovers for direct goals this year but who isn't perfect? All time great is Swanny....not just for Collingwood either, but the game itself.

Swannie sits 16th for most possessions ever, but has the highest possession average in the history of the league:



The better news? Adam Treloar at 25.18 is currently 17th on that list.

IIRC the buzz about Judd winning in 2011 was based on the fact that he won in 2010 with an ordinary season even though Swan had one of the best seasons in modern times, so as Judd had played well in 2011 he must win again. This ignored the fact that Judd's season wasn't actually that great (comparatively).

The actual media awards voted on week by week had Swan outperform Judd with Mitchell also figuring prominently.

In 2010 Swan won the Coaches Association Player of the Year, the Players Association MVP, and the Australian Football Media Association MVP. So he won just about everything except the Brownlow. He certainly should have won it in 2010, his next season was still very impressive, but perhaps they (subconsciously) made up for their mistake the year before.

Buckley better, yes to me. Swan right up there. buckley more dynamic, better kick both sides, beyong elite.
Swan elite but todays players get more votes in the Brownlow if they mid fielders, less spread out votes, more stats based.
Players since Buckley in order of best, id go Buckley best then Pendlebury then Swan.
But what a trifecta, all three are legitimate champions! In every senseof the word champion.

True, probably fair to swap their years around.
In many ways you could argue Fyfe and Priddis same thing except this year first half or so Fyfe was sublime.
I know this wont happen but wouldnt Fyfe be nice for us?
Thats why im so keen on Treloar, as gaining elite types or potential elite makes all the difference.
