There’s something about Head (cue s******s) that makes me think he’s gonna be successful at test level. He looks assured at the crease. Even early on, he doesn’t really ever look scratchy. He just needs to get rid of the loose shots.

Head is bizarre. He manages to simultaneously look really good but also never looks in. I guess it's because he's got out playing pointless and rash shots so often; it's just very hard to trust him temperament-wise.

His innings yesterday was a step in the right direction.

This is sadly true.

I guess when it comes to Usman I suffer a bit from over expectation. I just expect so much from him and maybe I’m way too harsh but I don’t think that’s unreasonable considering the amount of time hesand multiple opportunities he’s been given by selectors in his time. He was pretty bloody poor for a long while there you have to admit and his selection was questionable.

When I have watched him play live or on tv I can’t really remember a series of tests where he’s scoring fifties, forties or other high scores on a regular basis. He also seems to throw away his wicket just like this Test. If it wasn't for his almost double century in the Ashes I've no doubt he would've been dropped. His form was just not good enough.

That being said I do realise his almost double ton against the Poms this year was quality and his ton against Pakistan was probably even better considering the conditions and team mates, I just don’t see him be the player we need enough and as a result my opinion of him based on the chances given over and over is what it is. Those same multiple chances that aren’t given to players like Finch or Handscomb or Renshaw or Burns.

There also the part where I hate seeing our team be really really shit. That really is where it all stems from. This was hardly a test that will go down as one for the ages. India didn’t play that well and it was all pretty run of the mill for them. All we needed was a decent score from one of those top four bats and we prob would’ve won. Anyhoo...

That being said I'm glad they stuck with Finch and found that he wasn't good enough. I found the Handscomb selections ultimately odd overall (is he in or out) but dropping him altogether was correct. Renshaw not getting a run probably isn't that big of a shock as he's hardly played any red ball cricket from my understanding. What's made me happiest of all is seeing Burns smash it today. Brilliant!

Well, here we are 2 months later and Khawaja is still shit and Pucovski is sitting on his arse doing nothing.
That being said I'm glad they stuck with Finch and found that he wasn't good enough. I found the Handscomb selections ultimately odd overall (is he in or out) but dropping him altogether was correct. Renshaw not getting a run probably isn't that big of a shock as he's hardly played any red ball cricket from my understanding. What's made me happiest of all is seeing Burns smash it today. Brilliant!

Interesting round of Shield coming up. Victoria vs SA is irrelevant but:

WA (3rd, 36.9) vs Queensland (4th, 30.82) at the WACA
Tasmania (5th, 30.24) vs NSW (2nd, 38.46) at Bellerive

I cbf doing the maths but both Tassie and Queensland will be hoping to bowl first so they know how many BP they need, whilst WA and NSW will also like that, because that allows them to basically play defensively in the first dig (NSW more than WA, who will still want to make up the 1.56 BP just in case they both get the same result).

Interesting first day for the Final. Harris has booked his flight to England, sure he has issues at test level but you can't have a bloke on the fringe of test selection have a near 1,200-run season (with an innings left) and not go on the plane. Including the tests he's made 1492 runs at 57 this summer.

If Pattinson and Tremain can survive the first 10 overs the Vics are on top with their bowling attack. Make them bowl another 20 overs at us.
