Ferguson is shit. White isn't playing for Victoria. George Bailey has proven that he hasn't the requisite technique to make it. Marsh has proven that he's solid enough to fall back on for a little bit until Maddinson etc develop.

You'll probably agree that this opportunity right now (re Khawaja injury) is the perfect chance to give a guy like Handscomb, Patterson (who is outperforming Maddinson?) or perhaps turn to a guy like Ashton Agar.

If we don't go to the future the selectors will have missed a big chance.

Such a shame that Lynn has missed the season, would be at the front of selectors minds imho

Personally I'd put Handscomb in, but the selectors will put Marsh in.

I don't think Dunk has the technique and Dean is way too early.
I don't mind the idea of giving Agar a go. Not sold on Neville as a test batsmen though. The next 12 - 18 months is going to be interesting with the direction we go.

Agar has to bat at 7.

A 31 year old Shaun Marsh the selectors seem to keep going back to?
Could have made a case for guys like Ferguson, White or even revert back to a guy like George a Bailey. Was certainly the best option and has taken it with both hands

At a guess Marsh has made maybe 10 centuries in the last 12 months of first class cricket.

Agreed, would be a major re-jig in the order should we go the way of the second all rounder

1. Warner
2 Burns
3. Smith
4. Voges
5. M.Marsh
6. Neville
7. Agar
8. Siddle
9. Starc
10. Hazel wood
11. Lyon

(Logical choice would be Siddle for Johnson)

Would give us 6 genuine bowling options. Don't discount Agars worth as a bowler, this shield season hasn't shown it but he's ample enough as a second spinner

Nowhere near that.

I've included One Day too.

2 centuries in the Domestic One day tournament this year. 2 or 3 centuries on the tour of England. I reckon he scored 4 or 5 in the shield last year together with some runs at test level. There are a few more on tour and maybe even Australia A but I don't know where to find the details.

He's been prolific in the last 12 months.

Anyone know if Pattinson is bowling with decent pace?

Recent figures are nothing to write home about but he's a favourite of the selectors.

Seems to me that the combination of control, movement and pace make should make him the front runner for a recall with form being a relatively nebulous concept when CA is involved.

Bowling above 140 km/h from what I've seen.

I hate how injuries have held Pattinson back.

He looked like he could have been absolutely anything when he first came onto the scene. That first Test against the Kiwis in 2011...

It's such a shame. He's already 25-26 and instead of being the spearhead of our attack he is fighting others for a spot.

There was a spell he bowled in the Big Bash last season that was complete gas. He might not have reached Starc-like speeds on the gun but the ball was exploding off the pitch and he was virtually unplayable (on a pitch at Etihad which was not quick). Hopefully his injuries are now a thing of the past.

Can bat too.

Isn't part of the latest theory that young quicks will pretty much just break down until their bodies build up the tolerance to bowl?
