"There's still a hangover in relation to (the) salary cap. We've still got some issues we're dealing with there, but they're not insurmountable at all," Wright told SEN on Thursday.

"There hasn't been any conversation at the moment about how we look at the list from an end of year perspective and exactly what we're going to do.”
Graham Wright

So, who stays and who goes?
You’d think that the new coach will have a say, and that we are likely looking at another big turnover. Here’s my delist/trade list:
C Brown
Chugg
Cox
Greenwood - gone
Madgen
Mayne
Ruscoe
Sidebottom?
Sier
Thomas
Tohill
Wilson

That’s 12 players we can move on.

The other player we might look to trade is De Goey.
He is going to get a lot of very bad press soon with his court cases coming up. We’d probably have to pay a portion of his contract but it would still be a big cap saving.

Thomas and Tolhill add nothing at all and surely there’s more talent than them on the list. Brown and Cox would be looking elsewhere IMO. Sier must be on the table or he’d be getting a game, Chugg I don’t know enough about.
Madgen continues to astound, hard at it but oh so limited. I think Sidey, Mayne and Ruscoe will stay.
And a no to me on Gooey, frustrating but we are devoid of top end talent and I’m reluctant to move a player like that on.

C Brown - gone
Chugg - stays
Cox - gone
Greenwood - gone
Madgen - gone
Mayne - stays on minimum
Ruscoe - stays
Sidebottom? - stays
Sier - likely traded
Thomas - gone
Tohill - stays, last chance next year
Wilson - gone
This is what I expect. Would like to see Sier stick around but doubtful.

We should hold onto De Goey until the end of 2022, for five reasons. And we ain’t paying him to play elsewhere.

1. His court case will be behind him, increasing his value.
2. He will be an RFA, where we get better compo.
3. We will have gotten an additional year’s service out of him.
4. Any compo we get for him will not be eaten up by Daicos bids.
5. We need a KPF, and 2022 is a better draft year for talls (apparently).

I agree, pending the outcome of the court case. That could change things.

Do you think it’s going to be within our control? I suspect once the court cases are settled we’ll start to hear murmurs of outside interest. From there it’s a 50/50 proposition on him leaving, IMO. The only curveball will be if the club has appointed a new senior coach ahead of trade week and whoever it is is desperate to keep him.

It ought to be, he’s under contract until end-2022…

Why on earth do people want to retain Ruscoe

Still quite young.

Showing promise down back as a mid size defender in the VFL... as evidenced by his 26 possession, 12 mark, 4 tackle game on Sunday vs Sandy

and with Howe on his last legs, Madgen mediocre... we need more mid sized defensive options like Ruscoe and Wilson coming through

Absolutely no chance he gets traded. He's just starting to work out how to be a very good onballer.

The only trade I would entertain for JDG is Norf's No.1 pick, this would give us the best two kids in next years draft (or 2 of the top 3 with F&S selections played out). I would expect some later trades to be swapped to bring in more points for Daicos and Dib.

I have a feeling JDG will be chasing the money and whilst it may be a very reluctant sale, it may be inevitable. He is just 25 should be coming into his best few seasons.

My heart says keep him and get the cattle around him quickly because he is as capable as anyone.

I can't see that many list changes to be honest. We likely go into the draft looking to pick up Daicos and Dib, and then potentially a rookie elevation or a flyer on someone late. We don't exactly have the the assets to trade players into the club and any delisted FA, FAs in general or PSD picks are likely to command a decent salary. Lets not forget that 13 players left the club last year, so I doubt we're going to go into double digits again in 2021.

With that in mind, I'm looking at 4-5 players leaving the club from that list. Greenwood, Cox, Thomas, Tohill. I'm indifferent on whether Sier, Brown, Madgen, Mayne and Chugg stay on the list. Of those, Sier seems the most likely to be traded, but if they all got one year contracts I wouldn't be too upset. I would imagine that Wilson and Ruscoe are extended.

Sidebottom is an interesting one. You're not likely to get value for him in a trade and he's a senior figure who could provide leadership to the younger guys coming through. On balance, he should probably stay and I imagine that's the most likely outcome.

Control? Maybe not, but we should be in the drivers seat given he's contracted.

Young, limited senior exposure, starting to find his feet in defence. Could be the Langdon replacement we've needed. Why not?

Every time I’ve seen him he’s been unaccountable, poor defensively and not a genuine threat in attack. A poor man’s Ben Crocker

Watch his recent VFL games.

Did you watch yesterday's VFL game? More comfortable in defence.

he is someone we tried to make him into something he isn't.

What if he’s found guilty of indecent assault?

if de goey goes to jail and can't play then we might have to drop him off the list or make him a rookie ...a la the drug boys.

other than that, I cant see why you would consider trading de goey for anything other than football related stuff and the price he is putting on himself.

If he wants big money then tell him to f off.

i wouldnt like to see the club cave in to the lefties on this assault thing. It's a footy/salary cap decision

i watched the first 3 quarters and it was nice to see what trey can do when he gets a few kicks. My attitude to him has changed from "what were they thinking" to accepting that he is a good average footballer with average height and speed. You could toss him off the list and find a replacement pretty easily. The fact that he cant play forward only reinforces that to me.

Can we move on from the notion that DeGoey will be entertained in any trade. He isn't going anywhere, and the club would be out of its mind to trade him at this stage of his career. He will basically be the focal point of our midfield for the coming years.
Why do supporters think the club would even entertain trading him???

Some people are just natural defenders and not suited to the forward line in the AFL. He is one of them. He reads the ball very well.
