this is one thriller/horror movie that actually looks worth watching, as most horror movies these days are so lame imo

this should be good tho:thumbsu:

Why do I get the feeling that it will have a really creepy start, but, nothing will actually happen?

1408 was a quality scary movie! Also, Strangers looks awesome, but I don't know when it will be released in Australia.

I am a Shyamalan fan.

Obviously 6th sense was great. I really enjoyed Unbreakable, and despite their flaws I liked The Village and Signs. Lady in the Water was arguably the worst film ever made. I was really looking forward The Happening.

What a disappointment. Shyamalan has lost the plot. I actually enjoyed the concept behind this film, but everything else was shocking.

-Casting
-Acting
-Dialogue
-Pacing
-Ending

all were horrible. Even the editing was sloppy, if you look carefully during a dinner scene you can actually see the sound boom stick enter the picture. Ridiculous.

I won't give away too much of the plot, but I will say i'm bitterly disappointed with this peice of crap Night has served up. There were a few cool things in it, but overall it's shite.

3/10

am I the only person who actually loved Lady in the Water?

Yes.

Hard to tell with the reviews....... just about every movie he released since Unbreakable has gotten harsh criticisms.

That's because they have been shit. The sixth sense and unbreakable were great movies, but after that everything was shit. I keep expecting another sixth sense and I honestly don't know why I keep setting myself up for disappointment.

Saw it today, and have to say it was an absolute boring stinker. As bad, if not worse than Lady in the Water.

Why is it called The Happening. Should have been called The Not Happening. Just a bunch of people running away from wind. MNS has bottomed out, proving he was a one hit wonder. (though, I did enjoy unbreakable).

Possibly the worst movie I have seen this year.

.5/5

I cannot believe Marky Mark put his name to this Shlock! The smartest move anyone in the movie made was killing themselves. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

reviews have been mixed. I think IMDb gives it a 6/10 at the moment which says slightly better than average to me.

But did you take notice of the break down of the votes Catman?

Of 1569 registered votes, 641 voters gave it a perfect ten! This to me smacks of polling corruption. The poll has been compromised by the movies distributors and power brokers. There is no way anyone could rate this a perfect movie, let alone 40% of people who have seen it.

DO NOT put any faith in IMDB's poll results.

Dear lord, that was one of the most God awful films I have ever seen. Terrible plot, TERRIBLE dialogue, terrible ending and corny as all hell. I am all for movies letting the viewer decide the ending but a tiny bit of explanation would have been nice. The movie could have been half saved with a decent ending but it failed miserably.

I am a big Wahlberg fan and like M.Night's earlier stuff but he has officially lost the plot. Steer well clear.

Exactly. I never use IMDB ratings as a guide, instead i use metacritic.

www.metacritic.com

they have some way of compiling a lot of critic reviews and coming up with a score out of a 100. Most reviewers use metacritic as a guide. I find it extremely accurate and unforgiving. A film must be pretty damn good to get above 70, 80+ is outstanding.

Metacritic gave The Happening 36. Pretty spot on.

Thanks for that link Footylover. I will check that site out. IMDB is good for looking up info on actors/directors and the like, but unreliable in it's ratings.

If I had have pitched the premise for this film to anybody at Fox they would have laughed right in my face and tossed me out of their building, and with good reason.
The wind/plants/trees attack people in Northwest America with no reason at all, so Marky Mark and Hotty McCutey, along with child of Marky Mark's friend, end up at a crazy lady's house when the attack ends for no reason. The End.
Ridiculous. M Night is a flog, and a hack, he hasn't made a decent movie in forever.

This was a ridiculous plot. Although there were some horror moments that I liked and those who have seen it know what I mean but overall shit movie. 4/10 and only that much cos some of the horror parts were cool. Wait for the DVD if you want to see it cos it isn't worth the night out. M. Night is now officially a has been.

My god this is one of the most confused movies I've ever watched.

Its obvious that Night was going for the B-movie effect but it had absolutely no style at all like Taratino's Death Proof.

What was the point then? >,>

The dialogue was like the worst Buffy the vampire slayer/Joss Whedon knockoff that there ever was. The forced interactions with Mark Walhberg and his wife was so terrible and unbelievable that I was giggling in hysteria.

I mean, Night has proven that he can do a respectable disaster movie in Signs....

so wtf was that?

It reminds me of those knock-offs you see in the Video rental stores to take advantage of a blockbuster's release like Snakes on a Train, Aliens versus Hunter (AVP) or I am Omega (I am Legend)

it was that terrible and laughably bad at the same time.

M Night should just pitch ideas from now, because he does have good ones every now and then. Leave all of the writing and directing to somebody else though because he cant go from "decent story idea" to "decent film".

It's ratings have dropped a bit on IMDB, 5.6 now. Rotten Tomatoes has this at 20%.
