Surprised not to see more premature Motlop haters on this thread. Have we already forgotten the hate for this man? Its been 5 weeks since you last labelled him unfit and fat - even though he had a full preseason.

Were people wrong to label him out of shape?Surprised not to see more premature Motlop haters on this thread. Have we already forgotten the hate for this man? Its been 5 weeks since you last labelled him unfit and fat - even though he had a full preseason.
Were people wrong to label him out of shape?
I recall that being the main discussion point. People felt he was carrying a few extras kgs over the preseason while others stated it was trick of the camera or a vest.
By his own admission he turned up under-done.
Motlop, who signed a lucrative two-year deal to stay at Geelong last season, admitted he was not in top shape when he returned to the club at the start of pre-season.

"I wasn't too fit at the start [of pre-season], but I'm definitely getting there now," Motlop told the club's website.
"I'm feeling a lot fitter than when we first came back.

He was ordinary in NAB and not that much better in Rounds One and Two. He's gotten better as he's gotten slimmer.

I was adamant a month ago Kersten should be dropped.
I had friends though.![]()

Came to this thread to say exactly that, same goes for late last year too.I was adamant a month ago Kersten should be dropped.

He should of been dropped. He shouldn't be right now though.I was adamant a month ago Kersten should be dropped.

Yep agree. I said it was shocking that he came back fat, which Motlop himself has confirmed. So not wrong there. He came back unfit and out of shape. This wasn't a conspiracy theory based on an under-clothing vest misidentified as fat that some posters suggested - people around the club confirmed he came back out of shape. In his first few games, he looked slow and unfit.
So while he's predictably gotten better as the season has progressed and he's gained fitness, I don't think the knocks against his professional attitude are wrong or unfounded at all.
How would we be better now for having dropped him?He should of been dropped. He shouldn't be right now though.

One or two more games into Menzel or Vardy at the time I guess. But yes, We Were Wrong. How would we be better now for having dropped him?
We probably wouldn't have been much different although we may of beaten gws if we played menzel (or anyone) instead of kersten in round 2 given how close the result was. You don't have hindsight when you make the call. It's working now though. Is finally providing a marking target up forward. Can it continue is the big question? How would we be better now for having dropped him?
