Agreed, you can probably find a quote from me calling him lazy but his game today was right out of the top drawer and I am more than happy to eat my hat!!

I hear what you are saying DR, I did cringe a bit when he did it. But that isn't really the point of this thread. I called him lazy - he wasn't today. For that, I must say sorry.

But hopefully that effort today against Stanton was a once off.

It was a little out of the smart-a$$ book and, personally, I didn't think he needed to do it. A quiet word in Stanton's ear would have done the job. Throwing the footy at him allows the whole stadium to see.

Just didn't think it was required.

Bit melodramatic. Considering some of the things players do to others behind play, throwing a ball at someone hardly seems to be worthy of such a comment

Its a tough game much worse happens in close that is not seen.

Been doing it consistently since half way through last season I think. Last year's finals series was tremendous.

I think Kel was just showing Stanton what he thought of him wearing Hirdy's number. There was a few bomber supporters near me that were ready to throw more than a footy at Stanton. He certainly butchered a few kicks, very un-Hird like.

I thought it was a terrific show of aggression and disrespect. Just prior to that kelly had been smashing through packs, ripping the ball out of essendon players hands with utter contempt. It was great to see it. Other supporters will think it arrogant but who gives a stuff. Play angry Kelly, give em heaps (but don't get reported)


I always thought he had the talent. Remember the 2004 finals campaign he was one of our best then. But his 05/06 really let him down as he began to appear to look like he wasn't prepared to put the work into playing at the level we thought he could. There was even talk of trading him during this period. But he improved last year like all the others and looks like he has carried it on this year so far. Maybe a taste of the big time has motivated him.

I think it was extremely generous act - allowing one of them to finally touch the pill under no pressure.

I am also guilty of thinking Kelly wasn't going to make it and he'd be the first to go when the 1st/2nd/3rd year midfielders were AFL ready. His toughness is fantastic and you can see he never wants to get dropped again by the way he attacks the ball/man.

My favourite Geelong player James Kelly. His 2006 badge/photo sealed the deal for me.

He actually plays very tough, efficient and honest. Sounds like someone needs to build a bridge.

Didn't play after mid-season in 2004 after breaking his leg against West Coast. You might be thinking of someone else? Maybe Corey or Bartel?

lol I loved it when he threw the ball, great to see some agression from him. His first two weeks have been awesome and i am glad to be sorry to misjudge him.

I think he threw it at him coz he felt sorry for him and wanted to give him a touch, even if it was with the middle of his back.

Thought it was great show of what this games about - kelly had just proceeded to prevent Stanton from winning the ball, when he had control of the situation, and took it out of play.
Basically Jame's way of saying 'bad luck tosser - learn how to play before you come come back here again.'
We thought it was fantastic stuff!
