Hi everyone. I want to start out by saying I no way at all think the umpiring is to blame for the last 2 weeks. It's actually the least of our problems.
However I want to raise a few things.

Round 1 frees
Cats 24 Hawks 28

Round 2
Cats 10 gws 23

Round 3
Cats 32 lions 30

Round 4
Cats 16 bombers 24

Round 5 Cats 25 port 23

Round 6 cats 16 suns 22

Round 7 cats 27 eagles 21

Round 8 cats 14 crows 26

Rounds 9 cats 23 pies 26

Round 10 cats 10 blues 22

So that equals to be 197 free kicks for and 245 frees against. A differential of -48 which is ranked 18th in the league. There's something seriously wrong here. Whether it's the way we attack the ball, do stuff off the ball or a just undisciplined. I think the club needs to contact the AFL for some clarity. I'm very confused about what we are doing wrong. Today there was 1 instance where I was truly baffled. The deliberate out of bounds against Taylor. I'm not sure what he was supposed to do in that instance. But that's fine but the one against casbolt 5 minutes later, then directly after that a Carlton player kicked it forward directly to the line and it wasn't paid. I'm not saying the calls are wrong I just need to understand exactly what the difference is and how we can't fix it.
I'm confused as to why the coaching staff haven't rang the AFL for some clarity. Even get an umpire down there during the week during training. I'm sure the AFL would be happy to send someone down. I think us fans have the right to understand the interpretations of some of the rules a bit better.

Thanks

That Casboult non holding the ball/deliberate out of bounds was the single most corrupt umpiring decision I've seen all year to date.

I said as such in the preview thread.

I was mates with Troy Pannell at school... he always said he'll 'make Geelong pay' if he ever officiated in our games.

I particularly liked the Dangerfield run down and tackle on Kreuzer who dropped the ball cold when trying to kick.

Play on, play on, was the glorious call.
Happened at least 3-4 times today. But we got pinged every time, as though prior opportunity is no longer relevant. This is the type of thing we need to address with the umpiring department - the clear inconsistency of comparable incidents.

Guthrie pinged for holding the ball when tackled to ground .2 of a second after getting the ball

It was bad but watch the Carlton player pick it up and throw it to a teammate streaming by in the same play then a goal... It was that obvious it's disgusting, even when it was replayed no comment from the commentary team was baffling

This. Well said.

It's like we're being made to sing a different tune to everyone else.

I seem to remember reading some article a few weeks ago that quoted Scott as saying he would seek clarification from the umpiring department over the interpretation of some rules.

If he ever got that clarification, it would have made no difference today - rules applied to us and not to Carlton. Catch a Cat holding the ball, free kick Carlton. Catch a Blue holding the ball, play on.

This is what I mean. I think the club need to clarify with the AFL/umpires exactly what the difference is with some of the decisions. Then we could try to fix what we are doing wrong.

Possibly worst decision of the year in a strong field.

I don't want to be one of those that blames the Umpires for a loss

And they weren't the reason we lost

But christ a bit of consistency wouldn't go astray
And currently the only consistent thing about them is how incompetent they are each week

Actually the commentary team did mention it looked like incorrect disposal when it was replayed... it was a quick comment from BT I think but no song and dance.

The look on Dangerfield's face said it all ... he was incredulous.

Not the reason we lost at all, but geez it must be demoralising seeing your opponent consistently given latitude whilst you yourself are penalised to the enth degree of every rule.

I feel the worst for Hawk... sure he doesn't help his case... but christ he gets molested each week for nothing, while the opposition mids seem to get a fingernail on them and it's a free

Some of the free kicks being paid are so soft and flowery, while he gets mauled.....

It's like a boxer landing a punch, and his opponent then being given two free shots.

Exactly. Why would you even bother tackling your opponent when the umpires refuse to reward you for it? Any hope our players had of winning was stamped on every time the umpires didn't reward the tackler.

Well if he has I don't think he's communicated it to the players to well or the umpiring department needs to be clearer. It really must be fixed ASAP. It kills momentum. Or gives the other team momentum.

I reckon every time they hear the whistle now they automatically assume it's against them

The most frustrating thing is not the frees that are paid, but that ones that aren't.

Watching the Blues get the softest of frees all game, but then we are getting our arms chopped in marking contests, Blues players making front on contact in marking contests or just dropping the ball cold, and in pretty much all cases it was a Blues player able to swoop in and clear the ball when it should have been a Cats player with the ball in hand. That is what hurt.

Seriously?
Is this the Hawks board?
Have a fu#@ing whinge.
Point the finger at the players or coach.

We're all looking closely at the players and coach, but the adjudication of our games is another facet that is causing angst. That's fair enough.

No-one is laying the blame for our losses at the feet of the umps. All we're looking for is consistency. That should be a given.
