Re: Injury Update

Just wondering who on our list will not start pre-season training with the main group when the pre-season actually starts. From memory it is late November that the pre-season is going to start. So my question is who will not be doing full training.
From memory Hille should be in full swing by Christmas from his ACL, so will be a month behind in terms of fitness, but apparently he has been focussing on his upper body strength since his ACL injury. Makes sense since it is a pretty limiting injury in terms of what you can and cannot do.
I am unsure where Laycock is at in terms of his foot. Pretty hit and miss injury, and it is much like James Hird's navicular stress fracture from 1998/9. Friends who are doctors seem to think that this injury pretty much ruins any athletes career, but Hird showed us what he could post this injury. I guess we just have to hope that Laycock pulls through. BUT, my question is where is he at in terms of recovery? Is he able to train with the main squad? Who was he training with at the end of the season?
Gumbleton is right to go from all reports.
Houli had a fractured leg didn't he? Where is he at now? His type of injury should take about 8 weeks at the most to heal, so he should be okay by pre-season.
Also Williams has recovered from his knee injuries from memory. Can anyone confirm?

Other than those listed above, are there any others who are carrying injuries?
Are there any players who have undergone post-season surgery? And if so, how long until they will be back in full training?

As you can probably tell, I haven't been down to Windy Hill for a while, so am out of touch with what is happening down there in the last few months. If I have made any obvious errors in regards to those I have listed above, let me know.

Thanks in advance to anyone in the know.

Re: Injury Update

I dunno if this is widely known already, but Laycock strained his calf last week (hence the pressure bandage thingy). Article (scroll down to end).

Hamilton says it'll set him back about a month, but he's generally way ahead of where he was this time last year.

Re: Injury Update

Does anyone have an update on our current injury list?

Are these guys still injured? any estimates on how long they will be out? etc

Laycock, T.Slattery, Gumbleton, Myers? are these the only ones injured? have I missed anyone? - seems to good to be true!

Hurley, Dempsey when will they likely play senior footy?

Is Hille still going to be kept on ice until the start of the home and away season??

Re: Injury Update

apolgies if Ive posted in the wrong thrad - where exactly is the SC/DT thread? does it have a current injury list thats updated regularly?

Re: Injury Update

Laycock - apparently recovered from his calf injury. played a practice match for Bendigo.
T.Slattery - recovered from his leg injury, but still behind the 8 ball in terms of fitness due to missing so much of the pre-season. Didn't play the practice match for Bendigo though.
Gumbleton - only one on our "official" injury list, in doubt for the next NAB game, but looking better. Who really knows though.
Myers - also played the Bendigo practice match.
Hurley - no longer injured, but suspended until round 2.
Dempsey - no injury to my knowledge
Hille - on track for round 1, played the Bendigo scratch match
NLM - suspended until round 2
McVeigh - suspended until round 2
Neagle - haven't heard anything on him for a while, but had a groin injury.

Also, any word on Stants; Licha & Lonergan?

Been some mystery around Stants since before the WCE match, and I've heard the other two were looking proppy and in the mod group last week?

Broken ribs ground Gumbleton
By Jennifer Witham 1:20 PM Sat 31 July, 2010

ESSENDON could be without emerging forward Scott Gumbleton for the rest of the season after he suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung in Friday night’s win over St Kilda.Despite a heavy knock coming in the second quarter, the 22-year-old returned to the field and spent a few hours in hospital after the game with rib pain

Meanwhile, captain Jobe Watson and small forward Alwyn Davey are expected to recover from their respective injuries in time to face Carlton next Friday night.

“Jobe should be okay. Every week he is copping a lot of knocks and last night we saw it again with knocks to the shins. He is able to get up over the course of the week and hopefully will again this week,” Hamilton said.

“Alwyn also copped a knock late in the game but we expect him to play too.”

Alwyn Davey will miss the remainder of the season after scans last night confirmed cracks to both bones in his forearm.

Essendon general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said medical treatment last night revealed fractures but no displacement to both Davey’s radius and ulna.

“The next step will be to see the specialist to determine whether he will need a plate or whether we will put it in plaster and let it heal naturally because there hasn’t been a displacement.“The specialist will determine what the further action is and we will know from there.”
