Hi

I'm unsure what's going on with this kid but seems concerning

Is it possible he never plays afl again ?

Very possible. Also very possible that he goes to Geelong for nothing, kicks 60, and every headline is about how stupid we were for not backing him in. Geelong gets an enormous talent for free, JUH gets a home and land package, everyone wins except us.

Maybe this is just ignorance on my behalf, but I legitimately think it would greatly benefit the player to withhold AFL payments in escrow (even with just a minimal allowance being paid out) if they go on this type of leave of absence. These things shouldn't be taken lightly.

I can't stop comparing this to Tom Boyd, who had legitimate mental health issues for years, but still acted like the ultimate professional when he eventually decided to step away from the game.

Boyd is a Bulldogs legend as far as I'm concerned. Jamarra is disgracing himself

Who would’ve thought drafting Charlie Clarke would be such a sliding doors moment.

What a ****ing horrible influence he’s been.

I obviously don't know Charlie, but everyone else on the list didn't seem to be under his influence. If JUH has a disposition for a certain lifestyle and is drawn towards certain personalities, you could argue that it was going to happen anyway. For the most part, he has been surrounded by extremely solid citizens at the club - I mean, our club is represented by an incredibly good group of people in my unbiased opinion. JUH could have just as easily adopted The Bont as his role-model and moulded his lifestyle on impeccable characters like him. But he didn't.

Look at the incoming batch of recruits - Dolan, Hynes, et al. You could say that JUH is now, himself, the bad influence. Will they be fascinated by and drawn to him, or will they make more mature choices? I'd bargain the latter. All this is saying...I suspect that JUH's problems go back a very long time, far pre-dating his tenure with us, with complicated roots and challenges that the arguably more well-adjusted among us can't understand.

Agreed

Keep in mind JUH is also two years older than Charlie

He hasn't been moved to the inactive list, this is purely a case of trying to limit the media speculation, the amount of Marra questions Bevo gets in pressers and the constant will he/won't he in regards to training on a particular day.
There are many things still going on behind the scenes but this doesn't impact those one way or the other.
Question . Why wouldn’t he just be placed on the inactive list so that we can open up a spot in the mid season draft ? Any reason why we wouldn’t/can’t do this ?

In order to do that the leave of absence would have to be for the whole season, with no ability to play this year. If that is the case then yes we could.

I wonder if there is pay freeze or reduction agreed to as part of taking a "Leave of Absence "

I hope for this incoming batch of recruits, that having seen Jamarra's downfall up close, that they have learnt very valuable life lessons about their choices in life. Whilst Jamarra has been a big distraction for the club, from the outside, it doesn't seem to have had an affect on the club onfield. Jamarra taking leave from the club is a bonus for these players, so they can concentrate on establishing their careers.

This bit is the important part. If we can handle this implosion while still keeping everyone focused then it's great signs for the culture we have going on

Without going in depth arangements need to be made and everything needs to be agreed to by all parties.
I will say on a more positive note Marra is attending all appointments with those assigned to him through the AFL so maybe there is a chance that he finds the help he needs via that avenue, as we all know the first step is seeking help, accepting help and actively participating in said help. So potentially there is an avenue out of all this mess that way, if not for the club but for his own well-being.

Actually attending appointments is one of the biggest battles for these issues. It's a shit situation all round but I seriously wish him all the best in getting on top of it. Many don't.

He sounds pretty delusional. Does he think he’s just going to walk on into our team again? Does he think he is ever gonna get another contract that doesn’t have a billion triggers attached it it?

I won’t call a bloke I’ve never met dumb, but he seems extremely naive. I don’t think he realises the damage he’s doing to himself in the eyes of pretty much everyone’s except Damien Barrett (the only bloke left who wants to blame our coach).
Plenty of people in a spiral like this believe their own BS.

I reckon in about five years there’ll be a double page tell all in the Herald Sun about how he got his life back on track and how the club failed to support him.

Followed by a stint in jail for setting fire to a bus shelter.

What did Charlie Clarke do? I missed that conversation. Could someone briefly enlighten me? I thought he was the "Much loved players kids babysitter who lived with Treloar"

Former director told certain events that happened in the middle of 2022 that in hindsight, has had an impact on JUH now. Not immediately but it took time to play out - what the media is covering is tip of the iceberg stuff. This is why I was hoping they'd keep it under wraps and gift wrap it all to another club in 2027 but I think an exit is the best thing for the club.

Why I trust this former director as he was/is 'ITK' and called the Stringer stuff and departure 12 months before it all happened back in 2017 - before media and anyone knew or made it public, he knew all about it.
The image of club fixers feverishly working to put out spot fires and suppress the story for a few years for a trade only to be thwarted at every turn is admittedly very amusing.
