Meh. Sorry lads.

Seen this many times in my workplace (and I was an employee advocate ffs!).

15, 20 times. Average people, with average behaviour......

The thing that irritated me the most, was how those who did the right thing got left behind. At times were made to blame.

To be fair, sounds like Bevo and the club have insulated the rest from that so that's a positive.

Nuff said.... 😥

I’m all for piling into the managers but I’m not exactly sure what more they could do here. They can’t baby sit him. From all reports d'orazio has been trying to sort this all out as much as anyone.

A lot can change once the trade period comes but I don’t think its pitchforks time just yet.

Given it's the Connors Group, the managers of Sniff, the pitchforks are being gently warmed by the fire ready to go.

I’m seeing this as a positive. Let’s hope by him agreeing, it means he realises he needs more help & does the further treatment plan developed for him.
Hopefully we see him back at some stage.

I think if you were fortunate enough to never experience or have a close family member wrestle with an addiction, you probably don’t understand the grip it has. A addiction, whether it’s illegal drugs, alcohol or gambling cannot be reasoned with. It’s a pattern of trying to say no, looking at all the reasons to not use it, struggling with the cravings, caving in, then feeling guilt worthlessness, followed by determination to say no…and the cycle starts all over again.

Think of trying to quit smoking or looking at your phone/social media what’s your triggers, how long can you resist, how many times did you try before you succeeded? How long did it take you to recognise it was a problem?

There is a huge cost to pay for addiction, loss of income, relationships, home, self-esteem, and a higher risk of self harm.

Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD have a greater correlation to addiction, I don’t have the most recent stats, but going back 15 years when I worked in AOD, it was around 83%.

The fact that Marra is attending his medical appointments is such a huge step in the right direction, as he is recognising he has a problem, on what will be a hard journey.

Edit: Not today, but my reading of the interview remains the same.

Despite what I read here and in the media, listening to Beveridge today. I dont get the impression that he nor the club have completely written of Jamarah. Its just that they need some clean air and for him to go off and contemplate whether or not he wants to commit to the life of a professional athlete and whether or not that life is at the Dogs.

They've basically hit the ball back into his court and walked off. Leaving the next shot up to Jamarah and his handlers.

Where did he speak?

Where did he speak?
Twitter tells me that he's on Footy Classified.

Which I typically wouldn't watch and have no idea what night its on.

Edit 3: Apparently it's on Mondays. Who knew?

Edit: I don't know if this is new or old material. Given it references Nick Riewoldt's thoughts on teh matter.

Edit: 4 Its old news and have no idea when this interview took place. Sorry.

Because we need another hot take from somebody not involved.

Edit2: Ive now read Reiwoldts take on the matter and its just a regurgitation of known, knowns and brings less to the table than anything in this thread.

Sorry!

Highly Optimistic Norm.

Maybe but my real name is Pollyanna.

Marra is in a dimension that neither you or I are in.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

One not conducive to playing AFL, nor holding any kind of occupation.
The word is not good. It is drug related and of the worse kind.

With all due respect to those with claims of having the inside running on this. I'll remain skeptical until given concrete evidence otherwise.

If that means Im last to the party and its how you say it is, then so be it.

Ben Cousins is a hero for coming back and performing his current role - reading the sports report in Perth on channel 7.
Does he? Thats a remarkable turnaround. Good for him

I don't think that the two players and their situations are much in the way of analogous. AFAIK Jamarah is yet to reach the levels of completely off the rails criminality that Cousins did. Ben is very fortunate that Kerry Stokes has a great admiration and willingness to fund the redemption arcs of people that have burnt most or their bridges. Be it drug addicted footballers or disgraced war criminals.

Posted this about Clarke on the Bailey Smith thread

I'm amazed that kid was picked as high as he was - think he was like pick 23?

An average footballer and complete cultural cancer off field, like Lachie Hunter levels

Worst thing was - he was well known in my area for being a loose cannon - how the hell did AFL recruiters miss that?

I saw JUH hanging out with some of Charlie's mates in mid 2023 around Port Melbourne
Had an idea it was all about to go pear-shaped from there.
You got absolutely no idea and like most people on here write absolute lies.
Im married to a relative of charlie so i’ll say this he pretty much never drank alcohol before he played AFL. was definitely not a party boy. He was working as a second yr carpentry apprentice the yr he got drafted.
He was exceptional at U18’s including representing his state.
she was also making great head way into the vfl and only did one pre season at the club in two years he was there.
He deserved his debut and to be honest he has said it didn’t go the way he wanted with some skill errors and it was like an out of body experience
After his debut he lost his way and i know this from talking to his parents getting delisted needed to happen.
since he has been delisted which is around 6 months he hasn’t touched any alcohol or gone out partying. He still has close friends at the club including treloar bont harmesy and laith and many have been at his games of local footy.
I also know that he has been told from those at the club that make decisions that they regret delisting him as they see now it wasn’t just on him.
However Charlie does not blame anyone for his actions and has taken control of his life and the direction it’s going.
No doubt he struggled with the pressures of AFL and maybe that’s maturity.
With his journey though he wasn’t once a bad person and didn’t harm anyone.
I believe he will be back
playing VFL in a few short weeks.
So please guys stop thinking you know things when you actually don’t and those guys close friends and family wouldn’t be writing this made up shit do better. These are young men and even these rumours and lies hurt.

I’ll also add while we are all disappointed & frustrated with jamarra’s current position he also is a young man and though he is making mistakes he is only hurting himself at this stage. I’m not going into what i know however just stop writing stuff that you haven’t seen with your own eyes. It’s just plain stupid and doesn’t help anyone.

You’re right about Stokes, Stokes picked a shocker in BRS however. 50% strike rate.

Well said and it needed to be said. I was disappointed in the club not giving him more than just the one bad game, hopefully adversity will only make him stronger. All the very best to Charlie.

Ben Cousins is a completely different character than Jamarra. Showed up and performed regardless of what his life looked like outside of work and went 100%.

It's kind of amazing he was able to achieve so much while being a raging addict.
Spot on.

If I'm remembering this correctly, Cousins would reward himself by hitting meth hard as long as he went twice as hard on the training track / game day. At least that's what he tried to sell in his documentary / book.

Whether you believe this or not, he also said he loved playing early in the week (I.e. Friday night) because he then saw that as having extra time to go harder at the meth because of the longer turnaround.

The first part of that I 100% believe. Cousins was an absolute animal on the training track and was super fit. He's one of three players I immediately think of from that era in terms of the hardest working and hardest running (Crawf & Harvey the other two).

JUH is no where close to this level. Without knowing a great deal about the mental health issues he's dealing with, it's possible if he dedicated himself to training half as much as Cousins, the situation he finds himself in would be a lot different. There's every chance we wouldn't even know what was going on behind closed doors apart from the social media stuff which is no different to what it was like last year.

They don’t normally delist after one bad game. When you think of the slow progress by some who are still being persisted with. There must have been more to it. I would have thought Treloar’s influence would have helped a lot.

In any case, whatever happened, it wasn’t the end of the world for Charlie and hopefully he can now learn from and build on his experience.

Definitely not the end of the world but after talking with family the club made the correct decision and Charlie is now thriving. He may of spiralled out of control if he stayed in the AFL system. Two clubs wanted Charlie also but he chose to walk away. He kew and still knows he had some work to do.

Thank you for your insight and good points, I wish Charlie well. I wouldn’t say JUH is hurting nobody but himself though? His absence hurts the team and the club’s finances

Riewoldt has been pretty vocal speaking out against Marra of recent so he's having a bit of a crack back here. I really hope this doesn't continue to get too messy. Herald Sun are going to be all over this in a few hours...
