If this goes the way it’s looking then Bev, Baines and the club get a massive tick from me. Obviously Marra does too. Fingers crossed. The idea of losing an elite talent for unders after we already did with Smith and Dunkley is pretty gross.
i COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE

I don’t really think much of him as a kick, as a defensive forward when the ball is lost, as a role player, as a team man, or a a general athlete. The only thing i would be focused on is what we can get for him on the open market. That said, yeah sure welcome back, lets make him feel welcomed until we can offload him for a valuable pick.

if anyone can point out a game where the hype matched the reality of his skill set please do so. But don’t point to goals scored because he averages 10 disposals over a game career of 67 games at 52% efficiency for shot on goal, averaging 1.5 goals per game. stats wise a good average footballer.
Natural talent. Second half of last season showed elite form and the trajectory of a young key forward that went at pick 1.

Why do you think the club has showed the patience? While I like Buku, the ceilings are not on the same level.

I for one am keen to see how the young man recovers and puts in the work to realise the potential we all know he is capable of.

Imagine the terror Jamarra must have felt when Ameet Baines opened the front door to his house, invited him inside only to find the cold dead eyes of Sam Power staring back at him.

"Jamarra. Im disappoint. Take a seat young man, we need to talk... "

You can't possibly think this is true
The biggest difference is accuracy. Khamis gets alot less looks at it but will generally put them away. On the flipside the opposition likely pay Jamarra alot more attention, meaning if the forwards create separation Darcy shouldn't be triple teamed. Both have different positives and negatives and both have shown huge swings in form, regardless of who is picked for as the third tall having the other fit and healthy is critical for pressure on spots. Making sure the forwards in the best 22 don't get complacent is key.

If/When JUH is back, he’ll be the 2nd banana.
Naughton will have to play the 3rd tall relief ruck role that Buku is doing now which means Buku will probably be forced out. The alternative is that Naughton goes back and Buku keeps doing his thing. Will be interesting how Bevo manages it but I’ll eat my hat if we can play all 4 forward. We’ve tried already and failed. More recently, Adelaide have tried and stopped as well.

Don't forget we tried Naughton, JUH, Lobb and Darcy up forward for a bit and that didn't work.

Buku is doing an admirable job of the tasks he's being given. Especially the absurdity of asking him to relief ruck a few weeks ago. But it's a nonsense to suggest that he is in any way better than a fully bought in and engaged JUH. If things dont pan out with Jamarra he's a handy fall back option. Which pretty much encapsulates his career.

In some early kicking drills Ugle-Hagan, who still has weeks of physical conditioning to complete before he will be considered for VFL selection, showed promising touch. He nailed four teammates squarely on the chest with pinpoint accuracy while on the run, impressing onlookers given his months away from football.

In match-style drills, Ugle-Hagan grouped alongside skipper Marcus Bontempelli and Oskar Baker, using his body and moving freely before leading forward.

Sorry i don't agree Jamarra When you see him lining up goal Jamarra is more reliable then Buku and yes i agree it's good too see Jamarra back and he has too prove how much he wants it
Marra kicked 43 goals 35 behinds last year and missed a lot of gettable shots.

Buks has kicked 12 goals 3 behinds this year and has arguably been our best from set shots, I'd probably only have Matt Kennedy ahead of him for accuracy.

Marra is a star but accuracy has been his Achilles heel, like a few of our boys.

Buks is probably first choice to be that 'third' (I hate that term) tall in defence if we want to go that way. He's performing admirably as a forward too and I highly doubt if Marra does make it back to AFL level, it happens in 2025.

Longer term? Well, I'm massive on what Croft will develop into and prefer him behind the ball. He's a couple of years away though.

To be fair to Buku he has only been playing forward since about Rd 7 (give or take a game or two). And in many of those games he has been called up for ruck duty for 10-15% of his ToG.

From Rd 7 to now he has kicked at least one goal every game. His goal average since Rd 7 would be the equivalent of a 39-40 goal season if taken over 23 H&A games. And that would put him roughly on par with Naughton, West (2025) and Jamarra (2024).

Jamarra is clearly a more exciting prospect if he can return to his best (with better to come as he approaches the peak years of 25-30, he's currently 23) but what Khamis has achieved is most impressive, albeit over only 7 rounds. I remember watching his debut game at Marvel against Carlton when he was a 21yo. He looked gassed and a quite unlikely AFL prospect. He's certainly come a long way since then.

If he puts the work in, gets fit quickly & stars in the VFL, his talent just may be too hard to ignore for AFL selection late in the year. it’d be one hell of a turnaround. But who knows.

It’s just great to have him back at training. He’ll be a real bonus for us if he gets himself back in the frame. Whenever that may be.

“He has told friends he would now like to play out his full contract at the Whitten Oval and the Western Bulldogs next year. That clearly is a departure from reports of recent weeks."
That's the inside word from Jon Ralph

Two take aways from this for me.
Who out of Ralph and Morris is capping, and who has no cap. Secondly which one out of Morris or Ralph has enough rizz to communicate with Marra's friend group or in other words which one is sigma and which is Beta, what is for certain though is they're both Ohio.

The old "now the player has changed his mind" story to cover up the bad guess you took a month ago.

The AFL media are shameless and also shamefully bad. It's not even journalism from most of them - it's opinion pieces passed off as news.
