I don't think anyone is going to confuse Jenkins with a superstar but if Fremantle are that keen on him to offer a five year (he will be 28 in Feb next year) 2.5 million dollar deal it might look better than a two/three year 800-1.2 million dollar deal at Adelaide.

Paying way overs might actually land a middle tear player. Not that I'd want to.

I can understand the selection committee cracking the shits with our round 1 rucks. But they were muppets to drop Tabs after round 1, everyone had a bad day and the main culprits were in the midfield. Alex in Round 2 where we had decent delivery forward (enough to hit 100 points), vs Tabs/pav in round 1 - which was a terrible day for a forward with little delivery there. Can't compare Alex in round 3 as the rucking makes it apples vs oranges.

K H D M HO FF FA T G B AF
Matthew Pavlich 5 1 6 4 0 0 1 1 1 1 37
Matt Taberner 4 4 8 4 0 0 2 1 1 1 37
Alex Pearce 2 5 7 0 7 0 1 2 0 1 29

Did most of that in a half too.

At half time his stats were 2 disposals, -2 fantasy points, so he was actually doing more harm than good.

I'd suggest that maybe the match committee would've commended him on his second half (presumably after the half time bake) but needed to teach him a lesson on giving 4 quarters of effort?

After watching Mason Shaw bag 5 today I can't believe Freo didn't at least rookie list him.

He's a better mark and kick than Taberner and he has better footy smarts as well Freo missed a trick here.

I like Shaw as well but Tabs regularly kicks bags at Peel. Doesn't really prove anything.

Too tall, kicks too many goals for us to be genuinely interested..

I'd be willing to put money on WCE picking up in the next rookie draft.

Look if keeps performing like he has been it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him get another chance, I wonder why he didn't get more opportunities at Port.

He was injured most of the time, groins I think? He barely got going at all over there. Kind of like Apeness, he never got a long enough run to work himself into form so the games he got were few and far between and and probably about on par with Apeness's performances apparently.

I remember Lloyd talking about delisted players like they're all useless after trade week. It pretty much confirmed to me that we'll never take a delisted free agent as long as he's in charge. Whilst he's probably right 90% of the time, I don't see the issue of taking the punt occasionally. Players like Ceglar, Laidler, Robinson, Weller and Hamling look likely to have medium-long term success at their second clubs. Rampe was delisted by the Bulldogs and Rowe by Sydney. Podsiadly and Simpkin were a premiership players and were delisted twice. I could go on a bit longer but there's no much point to it.

He did take Lower though after a year (???) out of the AFL so don't write off Shaw yet. Well actually do, the recruiters never go how we anticipate anyway.

Define 'Bag' . Kicking 5 goals once does not mean a thing. Jesus Yarran regularly kicked 'Bags' as a small forward.

Missing Shaw is and was a serious mistake.
Taberner averages the same amount of goals per game as Shaw and smashes him in every other stat. This is the first time Shaw has kicked over two goals in the WAFL and did it against Perth who are just about locks for the wooden spoon. Now unless you've somehow watched all of Shaws games and all of Taberners games this year I can't see how you can assume Shaw would do better at AFL level. Port wouldn't kept him if he was the solution to our problems. I'd be all for recruiting him at year's end but on exposed WAFL there nothing to say he'd even be an upgrade on Taberner and overlooking isn't a serious mistake based on what we've seen. Ryan Murphy used to kick bags in the WAFL as well...

Mate I've got a pair of eyes i've watched both, no doubt Tabs has a better tank which improves his " stats" footy smarts and leading patterns he's all over Tabs and as Taylor pointed out he had injury woes at Port.

So presumably Apeness will be back at Peel next week. How long until he can crack the seniors? Four weeks after that?

Basically two years out of the game...his match fitness will be almost zero...
I'd give him until half way through the year, unless he's dominating

Grouse. Hopefully he opens up a can of boonta. He's the forgotten man in all this chatter about KPPs.

From what I've heard his second efforts are way below AFL standard to the point where no club would look at him. He was in SANFL reserves late last year. We were one of 18 clubs to overlook him. Such was the lack of interest Port delisted him before trade period and didn't even consider him as a potential rookie.

He has 10 goals in 4 games thus far so needs to show consistency for a while before I am sold on him as a prospect. unless a WA club was in his ear last year?

Yeah well from what I saw yesterday and what he's produced this year there is plenty of second efforts, but it's a moot point he's not on a AFL list.

Tabs has him covered for stats and a tank though.

Amazing that we've built such a good forward line so cheaply.

Walker - NSW scholarship
Betts - Free Agent
Jenkins - cheap trade
Lynch - cheap trade
McGovern - pick 50 odd
Cameron - rookie list

Our most 'expensive' player in terms of what it cost us to get him was Menzel and he can't get a game. When you look at clubs spending close to $1m per season to get ok key forwards it puts our efforts into perspective.

Hey guys,

Just cross posting this from the Adelaide board but I find it incredibly interesting a relevant to the discussion on picking up mature-agers and rookies. As it stands I think Adelaide have built an incredible forward line from nothing and I don't think it's realistic to say we need top 10 picks to land a KPF. Just my 2c ya know.

Que the Peel thread tearing shreds off him in his 1st game back because he has 5 touches and is largely ineffectual.
I think people should watch Apeness' debut game against the Demons in '14 to check their hype. He is not going to be a short term answer. Key forwards take 5+ seasons to come good unless they are freaks.

It was Mora's comeback game too.
