No good. Females are the majority in this country funded by right wing govts.

Females are still considered a minority group even though there are more women than men; it does not relate to their share of the population.

Right wing governments don't always release right wing policies. Tony Abbott's paid parental leave scheme is a good example of a conservative opposition swinging all the way to the Left to try and gain a particular vote. Even Labor said it was an unworkable scheme that it proved to be, while the likes of Lisa Wilkinson mindlessly applauded it because it fit in with her political ideals.

What tends to happen though, is people often take a single example of the majority being discriminated against or harmed and try to argue that it warrants as much attention as discrimination against minority groups.

Ok you've mixed individual discrimination with social group discrimination here in your sentence.

If you're talking individual then:

Single cases of discrimination already do warrant equal attention regardless of the social group.

If you're talking group discrimination then:

Obviously one case of individual discrimination within a group does not represent the totality of the problem.

paid parental to benifit the well paid the most. Come on - you got to do better than this

The fact that you disagree it benefits minorities agrees with my point that it's not about doing good but just appearing to do so.

doesnt make any sense. paid parental benefits both sexes

It targeted mostly women. Won't bother arguing the percentage, although I would think over 90% of applicants would have been female, regardless of the percentages of partners taking time off work.

Nobody speaks of "the right" as a homogeneous grouping as they do of "the left".

That's cause the left tend to be herd like where the right are more individualistic . The problem with the "left" is their hearts are in the right place, they do have some great ideas , but they never look at the unforeseen consequences of their good ideas which usually makes the problem they were quite rightly trying to fix , if fact worse.

Spell it out champion.

capitalism is radical and reforming. How does this fit with your understanding of what it means to be "left"????

There is still a response which is in proportion to the problem, and they tend to exceed it. Causes which involve minorities get obligatory applause regardless. This is why I prefer to donate or help with causes that receive less attention rather than jump on the breast cancer or homosexual marriage bandwagon.
I understand wanting to help less supported charities but how in the hell is same sex marriage a bandwagon? It's a basic right that some people are denied. It would be like refusing to back voting rights for black people cause it had too much popular support.

Can't see the problem with it myself , as long as they don't make it compulsory, and any offspring are not denied their real parentage for medical history and their own peace of mind reasons.

The campaign to support it is. Another case in point in the news today, a gay couple going hysterical about being asked to move seats for an elderly couple. Polite thing to do could've been to accomodate the elderly, instead they have played the homophobia card.

Voting is a right, a relationship is a right, marriage is more of a custom.

Reforming is good otherwise we would still be living in the Victorian era or even worse, Abbott's world.
