So yeah this is going to sound a little ghey, but I dont care its 3am and ive just had my heart crushed, so i got to listening to some music.

Im the kind of person who listens to various songs based upon what kind of mood im in, and the lyrics of a song are the one thing for me that make or break a song, it can be catchy and rhythmic but if the lyrics have no meaning its a crap song.

So post your songs with meaningful lyrics, none of that i popped up on a shawty in a club crap.

My Selene- Sonata Arctica

[youtube]vegmv94UeG4[/youtube]
Code:
Nocturnal poetry,
Dressed in the whitest silver, you'd smile at me
Every night I wait for my sweet Selene

But, still...

Solitude's upon my skin
A life that's bound by the chains of reality
Would you let me be your Endymion?

I would bathe in your moonlight, and slumber in peace
Enchanted by your kiss in forever sleep

But until we unite
I live for that night
Wait for time
Two souls entwine

In the break of new dawn
My hope is forlorn
Shadows, they will fade
But I'm always in the shade
Without you...

Serene and silent sky
Rays of moon are dancing with the tide
A perfect sight, a world divine

And I...

The loneliest child alive
Always waiting, searching for my rhyme
I'm still alone in the dead of night

Silent I lie with smile on my face,
Appearance deceives and the silence betrays

As I wait for the time
My dream comes alive
Always out of sight
But never out of mind

And under waning moon
Still I long for you
Alone against the light
Solitude am I

In the end, I'm enslaved by my dream
In the end, there's no soul who'd bleed for me

Hidden from daylight, I'm sealed in my cave
Trapped in a dream that is slowly turning to a nightmare
Where I'm all alone
Venial is life when you're but a dream
The book is still open, the pages as empty as me...

I cling to a hope that's beginning to fade,
Trying to break the desolation I hate

But until we unite
I live for that night
Wait for time
Two souls entwine

In the break of new dawn
My hope is forlorn
We will never meet
Only misery and me

This is my final call
My evenfall
Drowning into time
I become the night

By the light of new day
I'll fade away
Reality cuts deep
Would you bleed with me
My Selene

Yeah the sentence structure of the band isnt always complete i.e "Wait for time" instead of "waiting for the time" it's because theyre a finnish band, english as a second language and so on, but the song is amazing.

Radiohead - Bulletproof... I wish I was

Limb by limb and tooth by tooth
Tearing up inside of me
Every day every hour
I wish that I was bullet proof

Wax me
Mould me
Heat the pins and stab them in
You have turned me into this
Just wish that it was bullet proof

So pay the money and take a shot
Leadfill the hole in me
I could burst a million bubbles
All surrogate and bullet proof

Paul Kelly - Deeper Water

On a crowded beach in a distant time
At the height of the summer see a boy of five
At the waters edge so nimble and free
Jumpin over the waves looking way out to sea

Now a man comes up from amongst the throng
takes the young boy's hands and his hand is strong
And the child feels safe, yeah the child feels brave
As he's carried in those arms up and over the waves,

Deeper water
Deeper water
Deeper water.....................is calling him on

Lets move forward now and the childs seventeen
With a girl in the back seat tuggin at his jeans
And she knows what she wants, she guides with her hands
And a voice cries inside him, I'm a man, I'm a man

Deeper water
Deeper water
Deeper water.............................is calling him on

Now the man meets a woman unlike the rest
Well he doesn't know it yet but he is out of his depth
And he thinks he can run it's a matter of pride
But he keeps coming back just like a cork on the tide.

Deeper water
Deeper water

Now the years hurry by and the woman loves the man
One night in bed he grabs a hold of his hand
Says 'dad can you feel it kicking inside'
And the man gets a shiver right up and down his spine

Deeper water
Deeper water
Deeper water.....................is calling him on

So the clock moves on and the child is a joy
But death doesn't care just who it destroys
Now the woman gets sick
Its down through the bone
She says where I'm going, I'm going alone

Deeper water
Deeper water

On a distant beach lonely and wild
At a later time see a man and a child
And the man takes the child up into his arms
Takes her over the breakers, to where the water is calm

If I was in the fridge, would you open the door?
If I was the grass, would you mow your lawn?
If I was your body, would you still wear clothes?
If I was a booger, would you blow your nose?
Would you keep it? Would you eat it?
I'm just tryin to give myself a reason, for being around.

If I was the front porch swing would you let me hang?
If I was the dance floor would you shake your thing?
If I was a rubber check would you let me bounce
Up and down inside your bank account?
Would ya trust me, not to break you?
I'm just tryin really hard to make you,
notice me being around.

If I was a haircut would you wear a hat?
If I was a maid, could I clean your flat?
If I was the carpet would ya wipe your feet,
In time to save me from mud off the street?
If you like me, if you love me,
why don't you get down on your knees
and scrub me?
I'm a little grubby
From being around

New song from Sonata Arctica's upcoming album "Stones grow her name" called 'I have a right'. Very different to what they usually sing.

Deals with childrens rights to grow up and be who they are free from the constraints and expectations put upon them by strict parents, as well as emphasising the things that parents have to do to ensure their children are brought up well..
Basically a just let me be who I am kind of song.

Always liked the line from Bob Seger's Against the Wind

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then."

I have been listening to Macklemore - "Same Love" for a few months now
the OP is about meaningful lyrics then this is up there. l recommend a listen
PS: i`m not gay....not that theres anything wrong with that.:thumbsu:
id be interested in your thoughts

When I was in the third grade
I thought that I was gay
'Cause I could draw, my uncle was
And I kept my room straight

I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like, "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-K"
Trippin', yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head

I remember doing the math like
"Yeah, I'm good at little league"
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those who like the same sex had the characteristics

The right-wing conservatives think its a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made, rewiring of a pre-disposition
Playing God
Ah nah, here we go
America the brave
Still fears what we don't know

And God loves all His children
Is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written
3500 hundred years ago
I don't know

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]

If I was gay
I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man that's gay"
Gets dropped on the daily
We've become so numb to what we're sayin'

Our culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other ******s
Behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate
Yet our genre still ignores it

Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender and skin color
The complexion of your pigment

The same fight that lead people to walk-outs and sit-ins
Human rights for everybody
There is no difference
Live on! And be yourself!

When I was in church
They taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service
Those words aren't anointed
That Holy Water
That you soak in
Has been poisoned

When everyone else
Is more comfortable
Remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans
That have had their rights stolen

I might not be the same
But that's not important
No freedom 'til we're equal
Damn right I support it

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]

We press play
Don't press pause
Progress, march on!

With a veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
'Til the day
That my uncles can united by law
Kids are walkin' around the hallway
Plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful
Someone would rather die
Than be who they are

And a certificate on paper
Isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start

No law's gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever god you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]

Love is patient, love is kind
Love is patient (not cryin' on Sundays)
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)

I dare anyone to write out the lyrics to Manfred Manns Earth Band's Blinded By The Light, AND, make sense out of it.

And, yes, I know it was written by Bruce Springsteen.

I had no idea that was the case. He must've been stoned off his head at the time.

I had no idea that was the case. He must've been stoned off his head at the time.

Yeah, Track 1, side 1 of Asbury Park.

Here's an eplanation of the lyrics from The Boss himself, it's long winded and I promise you'll be none the wiser..........

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

Live 04 Apr 2005 version

[Spoken intro:] Let we move on to something else. Uh, can I have a guitar? I wrote a lot of notes which I'll be drawing from uh, uh... I wrote them yesterday, uh... the day before, I thought they were really brilliant. But then uh, then I read them this morning and I sounded like I was really full of myself which, uh... I don't actually need notes to help me with, so... But I'll be, but I'll be checking on them as we go through the night. Alright, this was a song that, uh, was written as... I handed my first record in to Clive Davis and... "yeah that's just great, great, but there's no hits, there's nothing, we can't play anything on the radio." So, uh, I'm thinking, "I have no hits, we gotta have some hits", you know. So I, I went to him -- I went to the beach and I wrote this song and I wrote "Spirit in the Night" but I wrote I think "Blinded by the Light". And so, uh, uh... I handed the record in and I found Clarence who had been missing in action, which is why he's only on the first two songs on the first album because, uh, couldn't find him, you know [chuckles]. And uh, let me set the scene; I'm sitting on my bed, people always ask me the one question, the dumbest question in the world, but they always ask you, "what, what came first, the music or the words?" You know, when somebody wants to ask you something about songwriting. Usually, I wanna say this, in this song the words came first. And I was sitting on my bed with a rhyming dictionary in one hand and a notebook in the other one. I am in my apartment which is above an old abandoned beauty salon in Asbury Park. And uh... this is what happened.

Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing, the calliope crashed to the ground
Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot, snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands
Some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand
Now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
Some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers, "Daddy's within earshot, save the buckshot, turn up the band"

And she was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it alright

Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
He says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, yeah, that's where they expect it least"
Some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance
Some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance

Yeah, he was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
He got down but he never got tight
He's gonna make it alright

Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes
She said, "I'll turn you on, sonny, to something strong if you'll play that song with the funky break"
And Go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly, asked me if I needed a ride
Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier
And Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a calling card, he said, "Do what you like, but don't do it here"
Well, I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground
And asked him which was the way back home
He said, "Take a right at the light, keep goin' straight all night, and then boys, you're on your own"

There's more?
In Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune
And the avatar said, "Blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon"
Some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night
Well I unsnapped his skull cap, between his ears I saw a gap and figured he'd be all right

Well, he was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun
Whoa, but mama that's where the fun is
I was blinded
[Spoken:] This, yeah, this is the best part, you got it
I was blinded (I was blinded)
I was blinded (I was blinded)
I was blinded, I was blinded
[Spoken:] All right. Thank you, yes, yes. Please, remain seated, I know, an A-minor masterpiece, I, I understand [laughs].

[Line-by-line song explanation:]

But uh... so what was that one about? You know, that was well, I always that, uh, that's the song that explains why I never did any drugs -- I don't think I could've stood it. My mind was already, already reeling, but uh... I'll give it to you little bit by bit. Alright

Uh., "Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer", Mad Dog Vincent Lopez, drummer in the E Street Band who was always, he always getting in shit. And uh... and "Indians in the summer", well the Indians were my little-league team when I was a kid. So uh... but there's also the kind of cowboys and Indians in the woods but uh... The "teenage"... "and Indians in the summer", the "teenage diplomat", well that's me. Alright. "In the dumps with the mumps", I was diseased. "As the, uh, adolescent pumps his way into his hat", is self-explanatory, you know. Alright [chuckles]. "With, uh, with a boulder on my shoulder", I always felt something big pressing down my whole life. Uh... "feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round", that's where I was living, that was the boardwalk, and "with this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing, the calliope crashed to the ground", that was I seek chaos and disruption I suppose.

"Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot, snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands", that me. "Some fleshpot" -- is that right? Did I miss a not? [chuckles] ??? Alright I'm gonna go with it, alright "some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand". That was me and a friend. Alright, "now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot", we're always looking for life's tender spots, you know, that's where, you know, that's where the love is, you know. Uh, "And throws his lover in the sand", and "some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers, 'Daddy's within earshot'", I was always very unpopular with my girlfriend's parents. "Save the buckshot", aw, "turn up the band", but I could not be defeated, you see. [chuckles]

Then we got the chorus, "I was blinded by the light", that kinda says it all, you know, that's, that's, just, that's what I was looking for. "Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night", this is an interesting line because, uh, this song is my only number one song. I had never had another number one song, except this one, and it wasn't done by me, it was done Manfred Mann, which I appreciate, but they changed this line. My line says "Cut loose like a deuce", and theirs said "Cut loose like a douche". Uh, I have a feeling that that is why this song skyrocketed into number one. But, uh, it's one of those, you know, that word, you know, and then the "deuce" was like a little deuce coupe, as in two-seat hot rod. Uh, "douche" is of course is a feminine hygienic procedure. Uh, so, they're different! And uh... but, uh, what can I say? You know, the public spoken, and they were right, you know. So, uh, alright, let me, let me carry on.

Uh... "brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east, he says, 'Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bones'", gotta be funny, everything was funny, "that's where they expect it least". "New-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance", I guess that was the YMCA when they had this guy sitting in that corner with a flashlight and if you moved in for a, for a quick round, they hit with the spotlight. Uh, "Some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone". That was if you were in the stands, the YMCA had a little basketball court, and the stands, in the far corner of the stands there was always something, uh, slightly shady going on, you know. Uh, "to remind him of the feeling of romance", very necessary.

Uh, "Blinded by the light", here comes the chorus. "Some silicone sister with her manager's mister", possibly, uh, the first reference to a female breast enhancement in popular music. Uh... so I was ahead of my game, I know. Uh... so "I'll turn you on, sonny, to something strong if you'll play that song with the funky break", which is my business. "And Go-cart Mozart checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside", uh "And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride", that's self-explanatory. [chuckles] "Some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer", well that was sort of the day, this was 1972 which was just still the sixties in New Jersey and it was kind of this old campus radical thing, and, so that found its way in. "Scotland Yard was trying hard", the F.B.I. "sent some dude with a calling card", the undercover agents, "said, 'do what you like, but don't do it here', jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground", uh, "Asked him which was the way back home, said, 'Take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then boys you're on your own'", which I was. Is that clear? Alright [chuckles].

By now the rhyming dictionary is in flames. It's, it's getting, it's hot in my hand, you know, [mumbles] it's burning up. "In Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune, avatar said, 'Blow the bar'", once again campus radicals "first remove the cookie jar", don't blow up the money, "we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon, some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap", a little road experience unfortunately, "from some mousetrap he bought last night, I unsnapped his skull cap, between his ears I saw a gap and figured he'd be all right", don't over-think the whole thing [chuckles], which I didn't do on this. Don't over-think the whole thing.

So, really uh... Oh! The best line! This line, the line that makes the whole song, "Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun", uh, "but mama that's where the fun is". And, uh, that was where, that was where I wanted to go. I wanted to get blinded by the light, I wanted to, uh, do things I hadn't done and see things I hadn't seen. I was twenty-three years old, I wanted to create my own ridiculous language and, uh... So it was really, uh, a young musician's tale, kinda of a litany of, of adventures, and it was rather on the ??? Wasn't hit though, maybe I should've changed that word, so [chuckles].

The above lyrics are for the live 04 Apr 2005 performance of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, during the taping of Bruce Springsteen's episode of VH1's Storytellers television series. Springsteen played the song solo on acoustic guitar then dissected it line by line discussing the song's meaning and origin. This performance of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT was included on Springsteen's VH1 Storytellers DVD release.

Used this for Paul's Eulogy! Almost seemed like it was written especially for US!

"Nothing Else Matters"

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No nothing else matters

Also, some Lines in "Born To Run" run deeply too! Especially, "I'll Love You With All The Madness In My Soul"

This is what wikipedia says about the lyrics:

Lyrics
The Earth Band's recording of the song features several changed lyrics. The most prominent change is in the chorus, where Springsteen's "cut loose like a deuce" is replaced with "revved up like a deuce."[2][3][4]
This is commonly misheard as "wrapped up like a douche (the V sound in "revved" is almost unpronounced and the S sound in "deuce" is easy to mistake as an "SH" sound)."[5][6] Springsteen himself has joked about the controversy, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a "feminine hygiene product" that it became popular.[7]

Make up your own mind.:) I love the video - reminds me a little of Dylan's masterpiece video for Subterranean Homesick Blues (also below).

I need a smoke and a lie down after reading that Baz. He sure is one complex dude, The Boss.

Obviously that explanation would have been easier to read if all the verbatim uh's, oh, well's etc were edited out, but it still wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, to me anyway. There are some snippets of reason to some of the lines, others are still a mystery. Sums him up for me. I have, at various times, see=sawed between being a total fan to being totally ambivalent. He can be totally brilliant, but I can also see why there are plenty that can't stand him.

My son gave me the London Calling concert on Blu-Ray, it goes for close to 3 hours, starts with the most abysmal version of London Calling you could imagine but just gets better and better as it goes. you have to give the man credit for not only being a brilliant song writer, but a manic showman as well, not to mention one of the most underrated rock guitarists ever. If only he would quit the bulshit false endings (pet hate, sometimes ya just want the song to finish).

Almost forgot My Absolute Favourite Lyric! Have lived my life by it, since the very 1st moment I heard it! Midnight Oil's "It's Better To Die On Your Feet, Than To Live On Your Knees" IMO, so Very True!

Hi there,

As a huge Springsteen fan, (hence the name Johnny99 from the Nebraska album), the boss has written some great songs over the years.

Thunder Road, Born to Run, Jungleland, Rosalita, The River, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Dancing in the Dark.....I could go on, and on.

In fact, there is a Springsteen tribute band playing in Spencer St - Melbourne this March.

I have seen them and I can assure they were really really good.

They are called Thunder Road.

They have a website called Thunder Road - The songs of Bruce Springsteen.

If you just want a night out and have a few beers and listen to some great rock and roll.

I suggest you check it out.

GO North !!!
