Lowering expectations suddenly after a few weeks of "we can win the whole thing". They're setting themselves for the fall and the subsequent media about how brave they have been.

Port's 3rd highest crowd against fremantle (I think), in what cows ambassaders were was nothing more than a trial game/exhibition game all week, going against the 2nd day of the royal adelaide show, going against local league and country league finals, and playing a Rottnest Island all star team.

bloody excellent crowd in any ones terms.
Fifth highest (including one final). Third highest in SA.

One gripe that I had from yesterday, I don't know if it affected people much, if anything it would have affected people with general admission, not those with reserved seats. Why were the gates only opened at 1.45 for a 3.20 game, 1.45 before the bounce? For a 7.10 game they open at 4.30 which is 2.40. Was it the expected smaller crowd?

Hutchy saying Brisbane were stupid for winning against the dogs, costing themselves pick 1. that flog said the same thing about us in 2011 and 2012. we didnt tank like melbourne and carlton, and the footy gods rewarded us with chad and ollie, and a superb club culture fuelled by good people like KT, Kochie,Ken and Trav and peter rhode.

Look whats happened to melbourne and carlton since hutchy, and then realise that deliberatley losing games for draft picks breeds a losing culture.

How's Porter's poo pooing our crowd in the Age? "Significantly, the 38,633-stong crowd was down 11,451 on Port's average home crowd attendances at Adelaide Oval. The fans had their say their say about Fremantle's team changes."

Not only are his figures wildly off, it just shows a lack of true understanding of the context of this game and what a really good crowd it actually was.

lol if ever there was chance to hold your hands up and say "you know what, Port Adelaide crowds are actually pretty damn impressive whichever way you cut it", it was now.

but no, let's add another misguided, ill-informed dig to the pantheon.

2012 we went 1 win, 1 draw and 10 losses in the last 12 after we were 4-6 after 10. 2010 was a year we looked set for a top 5 draft pick and went 5-1 in the last 6. It was even more extreme in 2000, after round 12 we were 1-1-11 and then we were 6-4 for the last 10 games.

youre right, though all remember from that season was the GWS game, the draw against richmond and the quadrangle of doom :).

Very well put.

Are we calling into question the afl's integrity this week after the bulldogs get put on the mcg for their home final when their home ground is docklands?

No?

Not sure where the fairness test is now from the hoards of whingers.

.... 33,182 attended the Hawthorn vs Carlton match. Competition powerhouse versus a 'big four' club, but nothing is said. ......
This is the one that stands out to me.

We get 38,633 to a dead rubber game against Freo's reserves with a couple of hundred Freo supporters tops while Hawthorn and Carlton, with 120,000 members between, them can only manage 33,182 and whose crowds get criticised?

Maybe the Carlton supporters turned up at the G on Friday night by mistake.

they can't stand the fact we have turned it around. That the obvious hole that was West Lakes, the fact the right leadership team free from outside interference can actually get a team where it should be. It's the only thing they have against us now and it just looks pathetic.

2000 is the case I've come back to multiple times on this forum. Dead last after losing to St. Kilda. At that point it was known Reiwoldt was going to be the no. 1 pick and it was 98% likely he was going to be a 10 year gun forward. The club had every incentive to lay down and die the second half of the season. We didn't. St. Kilda did, they ended up with Reiwoldt. We went on to win a flag, St. Kilda effectively said 'losing is ok, there's always another year' and have repeatedly failed in finals since then.

It's simple IMO. Most footballers aren't rocket scientists, you can't say 'losing now is ok' and then turn around later and say 'losing isn't ok'. You either have a culture of accepting losses or you have a culture where they burn. From late Choco through Primus our club moved away from not accepting losses and we've mostly kicked it, but this year shows there's still a few of those demons to remove. A losing culture is insidious and takes years to remove. And the longer it's been accepted, the longer it takes. At least with Port the fans never accepted it.

It'd be hell at times being the St. Kilda, Bulldogs or Melbourne coach, as many of their fans have long since given up and accept the odd win or good show as good enough. The coach has to battle the players, fans and often others at the club to break it. It's why we've seen so many coaches come into those clubs determined to turn around their culture and been spat out the other end shells of the men they were entering. You can only fight a war on so many fronts before you go under.

We will pay for years for that tarps initiative even though we were just copying the SANFL.
