If he's been rated as the fifth best player in the comp but he's not the fifth best player in the comp then this is the purest definition of 'over-rated'.

If that rating came from a "an football writer" of the Adelaide Advertiser then I would say we don't give it to much credit.

Unfortunately it's from the AFL's official rankings.

theres no real reason for Chad to play more midfield time

1) he is as damaging a forward as they come
2) we have a plethora of great midfield options as it is
If our tall forwards click this year we won't be relying on Chad to do as much up forward. This along with not having his pre-season truncated to last years degree should see him get more midfield time. Not full time by any means, but more.

I think we can write off his career Brownlow chances after his dismal polling this year.
Agree. He is one of those players that won't attract votes as expectations are that high that, it is assumed he will impact.

For me, the fact that most of my non port mates around the country were still saying what an unreliable season he was having, yet he was in the middle 16 quarter streak with a goal in each, means people miss the impact. These same guys still say how much they love how he plays and would have him in their side una heartbeat.

Why would umps be any different?

Exactly. He does his best work in front of goal so keep him there.

Also it's good to have him up our sleeve as a random midfield option that can add some variation and cause chaos with the oppo's match ups.

The other thing is, if he plays permanently in the midfield, what effect would that have on say, Sam Gray's place in the team? Our midfield is more than adequately covered with the current personnel - leave Chad where he can do the most damage.

Wingard is very much a Rioli type, in that he is most effective on the outside or in front of the ball. He makes whoever is defending extremely nervous with his cat like reflexes, extreme speed and sublime skill. I don't really see Wingard ever being a full time midfielder, pinch hitting sure, but I see his value much more as that roaming small forward that scares the shit out of the defensive line and coaches.

Yeah. And that hair flying in the wind is a sight to behold.

On top of that his footy smarts are invaluable in our forward line and he's a very good shot for goal too.
He can take a screamer, crumb a pack and specialises in crowd pulling X factor. You cant manufacture charisma
and Chad's charismatic.

These young lads liked Chad after he kicked a goal ....:D

The only reason would be so a guy like Gray can have a rest up forward so we don't have to burn a rotation when both players are equally as skilled at playing through congestion.

One less rotation for Gray = one more rotation for those that actually need recovery time because they are getting the brunt of the hits (Wines rotating with Ah Chee).

Bejesus Janus, the Crows need someone like you to keep them in the loop with what is happening with their game style.

There are a lot of things I love on gameday and one of them is the # of young people I see.
Age demographic comparison to our neighbours would be interesting.
It might reflect the teams' futures lol.

In the minority by the looks, but I'd like to see Wingard get more midfield time.

Chad Wingard has the talent to be a top 5 player in the game. Like Gary Ablett and Robbie Gray before him that sort of ability shouldn't be confined to just 1/3 of the ground.

I'm happy to basically give Wingard free rein to go wherever the hell he wants.

He's not a full time forward and he's not a midfielder, he's a champion high half forward in the same way that Akermanis was. He'll be elite wherever you put him. If we had a weaker midfield then he'd go there and get 30 elite possessions a game.

Chads pinch hitting in the midfield is going to be crucial with reduced IC Cap. Having players like him and R Gray that can do both roles very well is a huge advantage.

m8, you can eek a crows related post out of anything.
It's an Art. Each to his own mate. I personally hate that poster go on endlessly about this or that player being a spud, or several pages on the sex life of Garry Lyon or the endless talk of fapping, but I accept it. Live and let live. It might annoy you but I never put offensive Posts.

well R Gray said in an interview a while back that he'll likely see less midfield time than last season due to the interchange reduction cap, so hopefully that'll mean more midfield time for someone else.

I'm thinking Sam Gray, Ah Chee and R. Gray will all share time in the midfield and rest a bit up forward. Expect Boak and even Wines to rest forward more and Ebert and Hammer off half back.

When it comes to options, we've got an abundance of riches. If we can get lucky with injuries and therefore enjoy having a regular first choice team available, we'll be tough to counter.
