BT on Talking Footy and then Leigh Matthews on Game Day.
Both admitting to having not seen the Freo game on the weekend.

Are these guys friggin' serious? You're paid to commentate and discuss football professionally and you cant even watch 9 games every weekend? What a bloody joke. Heated.
Just heard on Talking Footy;

Darcy: "The last game of the round between Brisbane and Collingwood was a ripper, BT what did you make of it?"

BT: "Um... Well I saw highlights and it looked very exciting"

FMD.

Brad Harding's just a very unhappy human being.

Jake Niall's suffering from the word count his employment contract dictates.

BT is too busy listening to replays of his own commentary and being amazed at how funny he is. Legend in his own mind. Everyone else thinks he's a twat.

TLDR: Bennell had already chosen freo but took the free flights from the tigers to have a weekend in Melbourne

Sounds that way, but that does not improve the general view of the morals of the guy!

Lota West Coast supporters on our board this week. Why is that?
I've found many of them here and on the main board (obviously not all) to have some level of empathy to Ross/Freo or at least surprise at the disproportionate nature of the media hate the past week or so to the actual action that has been raised (in various versions).

Also, seems to be the first day since breaking that there isn't a Ross/Freo bashing article on the online version of the West (perthnow still referencing some older ones). I suppose there's still 13h left in the day to fix that error. Or maybe they are picking up on the fact that they are actually doing irreparable damage to their reputation for potentially 10s of thousands of Dockers members and supporters who are current or potential customers of their already-declining readership? I previously had a generally neutral view on the West - read it sometimes, knew they loved their Eagles and had a crack at Freo when they could. I was used to that. Now I'm just mega pi55ed off and I hold grudges.

Can someone please fill me in as to why Hardie always has an axe to grind with Ross and Freo in general? Did Ross talk inappropriately about his daughter or something???

Seems too be the common mantra this week from the media (and Sumich mates , prob the ones who's inside leaks inside Freo have dried up since Sumich went ). Laying boots into Lyon - his off the field issues aside , the question has to be asked. How is the team travelling this year ??? I think the rebuild is going along very very nicely. In fact these learned afl people would understand this also. Richmond had every right to belt us on the weekend , they only had 550 games more experience than us , we had 7-8 kids that had not played afl footy when we beat them this time last year . Stick fat people , do not be diverted where the club is going and what it is trying to do . This Lyon scandal is utter bullshit , he obviously can not comment legally or its is another story and because of the perceived silence ,the media slant has worked it as out and out guilt . Ross Lyon has a very long memory and I am hoping the club back him all the way in till these kids grow up and be successful, nothing will be better watching Lyon giving the arseh*le media the absolute stick they deserve.

We haven't been playing a traditional 7 man defense this season, we have been having a player coming off the back of the square, I was working on Sunday so have only seen a couple quarters of the game so far but can anyone confirm that we were playing a loose defender and not just playing our extra forward as someone charging in from the square?

It's quite a different tactic to the one that Lyon is suggesting, we have been opening up the forward line for McCarthy to lead into whilst giving some spread across the ground when we win the clearances which has worked well with opening up our wider ground sideways, its fair enough to say it wasn't working this game however it has been working in the past games and isn't inherently a "defensive" tactic.
Ross was on channel 7 tonight pretty much echoing these exact thoughts, did mention that he sent a note to Bond 10 minutes in and said to even it up to 6 on 6 though, as it wasn't working.

Called it complete nonsense that we were playing a 7 man defense, we were clearly using a man off the back of the square (Banfield named)

I fail to see how this wording is any vindication. It's still a five man forward line and 7 players behind the ball at the first bounce. As you forwards are meant to score the majority of the goals it's obviously not an attacking tactic. Even if it's not called a seven man defense it's still a seven man defensive setup. It's Ross Lyons default setting and only takes 10 minutes for an opposition team to completely work it out.

It's a guy attacking off the back of the square to help win the clearances, not an extra player sitting back in defence to intercept after the opposition win it. An extra mid vs an extra backman. It's different.

It's an attacking setup, clears space in the forward line to clear congestion as well as brings an extra mid running through the centre, creates spread around the ground.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, Lyon established it wasn't working on Sunday and made the switch 10 minutes in, it has worked in our 3 home games so far and had mixed effects against the Eagles, you can definitely see why Lyon persisted with it on the wider MCG ground.

I understand the concept, but it's pointless if there's only five forwards to kick to. The fact that intercept defenders regularly destroy us highlights that these type of tactics don't work. Our leading goal scorer this year has only scored 10 goals. For a comparison, Jaidyn Stephenson from Collingwood has scored the same amount of goals, and he's an 18 year old. Our forward line woes aren't going to be solved if we are outnumbered there. I don't understand what the player in the back is doing to help anyway; most of the time we just bomb it long, bypassing any running play.
