Judging from her twitter account it looks like she is frustated that we are supposedly in a rebuild and still playing players over 30.

But yeah to take the piss out of your own team on TV is a bit strange.

once upon a time the response would be " got no balls" as in no courage to stick by the team despite criticism....maybe can say "like a cat on a hot tin roof"...can't stand still in one spot etc.

Didn't hear her comments but saw her tweet straight after the game: " Freo have a lot of players that are like me, over 30 and can't play footy."

yeah is a valid point though not "lot of players". it only needs one or two who can't keep up and it creates a chain reaction of loose players. Port did us good time and again because of it.

Based on the game against Port, I wonder who’s she is referring to..Ballas, MJ?. that’s not a lot .. then again she could be just full of shit.. I know what I think

Fremantle’s kicking: Their tackle count may have been low but their kicking to their forwards was even worse. Impossible to see Kersten, Taberner, McCarthy, Walters, Ballantyne and co playing well if this is the delivery they get. Port had kicked seven goals to one off turnover by early in the third term. In order to fix Fremantle’s problems they need to identify the problem correctly. Giving “greater effort” isn’t what they need - they need players who can kick.

Yep good article.
I remember watching it wondering what % of their score had come from us gifting them the pill.
Also put the 'I don't teach skills' nonsense to bed if they've sought outside help for ball handling.

Yep pretty simple. Bad kicking is bad football.
Its not f%%ckin rocket surgery.

Don't think it's weird,I think the bomb is probably a part of the plan.
He's just saying they drifted away from their structures, roles and planned strategies at times during the game.
Lost concentration and discipline. Not surprising given the makeup of the team.
'Connection' is the term both Lyon and Sonny used for delivery into the forward 50.
Both acknowledged it needed work.Lyon identified one specific example involving Brayshaw in his post match.
So my best guess is that the long bomb to the square is an option amongst several.
They seem to be saying exactly what everyone else is, that we used it excessively and stupidly on the weekend.
They didn't deliver as they'd planned and presumably trained.
Bad decision making, like bad kicking, is bad footy.
We did both on the against Port and paid dearly.

That last paragraph. Get excited

Ross' change in tune from Saturday to today is startling. I'm not a big conspiracy theorist type but I am hazarding a guess that someone above him wasn't happy with us getting belted playing DP and co.

Either that or they planned all summer to take oldies to PA (knowing we probably wouldn't win anyway and not wanting to expose too many in such a tough fixture) so they could use the good news story of rolling out 3-4 1st or 2nd gamers at our first game at Optus.

I think you might be onto something. Give Pearce a goodbye run in his home town ,see how Sutty etc went and save the excitement of the newbies for Optus. New exciting team in a new exciting stadium. I like your thinking.

Both seem like very plausible scenarios tbh

I just thought he got asked a leading question that he didn't like the tone of:

Do you expect to wield the axe personnel wise?

I heard Brandon Matera in an interview after the game say they got a "keep your heads up" kind of message from the coach, so it would have been incongruous for Lyon to start talking about axing players in the press conference.

Also the journos outright lied in reporting the answer he gave to that question (before providing the actual quote).

Speaking after the 50-point loss to the Power, Lyon said there would not be wholesale changes going into Saturday’s game against Essendon - the club’s first at Optus Stadium.
“It’s not something I’ve thought of,” he said.

Round 1 selection wasn't the issue imo, it was the selection of the last game of the JLT. DP and others were given an opportunity to make the round 1 team and they took it. They of course shouldn't have been given the opportunity going off last season's form and the supposed direction of the club.

Ross is battling against the habits of a lifetime. By and large he’s getting there with only a few minor bumps required to jolt him back on course with the rebuild. At the same time he’s treating our deadwood with respect which is good for the long run.
