Perhaps the Victorian clubs need to support the competition getting underway in a form that doesn't involve 18 clubs in Victoria then! They're going to drag other clubs down with them by delaying even announcing plans to start the competition to May 11 instead in 4 days as originally stated.

Instead of doom and gloom they should be promoting hubs with WA and two states to be reviewed after 6 or 8 weeks. Selling additional TV rights to prime time Fox (who are desperate for content) for viewing in USA could be filling in gaps of income.

Yesterday we had 54 active Covid 19 cases and dropping rapidly and three grounds within walking distance of Crown Casino, WACA, Optus and MCG sized ground at Lathlain.

There is an article in the West about Longmuir supporting the idea of a WA hub. Seems to be cleaning up the mess he made after coming out in support of an 18 club Victorian hub over the weekend. It was all over the news here in Melbourne (and Freo never make the news here). Surely it's not that hard to say "A Victorian hub could work, but with our low infection rates and great facilities we believe WA is the best positioned state to host a hub".

The dude needs serious media training. Anyway, here is the article:

Fremantle Dockers coach Justin Longmuir backs WA as an ideal choice to host AFL hubs
Mitchell WoodcockThe West Australian

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has backed WA to play host an AFL hub should the league decide to base teams in different states to get the season back under way.
The AFL is considering a range of option to get the season started again, including having quarantined hubs of teams in different States.
WA Premier Mark McGowan threw support behind the plan last week and even revealed AFL officials had reached out to him.

Under a plan being considered by the AFL and WA Government, players and staff would be based in Perth quarantine zones — comprising hotels and resorts — for eight weeks and undergo weekly testing.
Longmuir told SEN last week he would back all 18 teams playing at one hub in Victoria, but clarified the comments on Monday morning, saying WA would be his “first pick”.
“I did say on radio in Melbourne the other day that I would support 18 teams going to Victoria but that was on the back of getting asked a pretty direct question about one hub hosting 18 teams,” Longmuir told ABC Radio.
“I would only do that if, at the back end of the season, we do get a run of home games.
“I’d love it to play out where Perth hosts a hub, especially if six teams come here.
Justin Longmuir believes playing in one sport for a long period of time would be an advantage to the WA teams given their usual big travel schedule.

“Not just an advantage for us, but I just think our community is making some really strong steps forward as a community because of all the great work we’ve done listening to government advice.
“We’re in a really good position as a state to host some teams. I think it would be a really safe place to do it. South Australia and Brisbane are along those lines as well.
“That looks like a really viable option, to use those places that are slightly warmer as well and safer.”
Longmuir said playing in one State for a fixed amount of time might be advantageous to both Fremantle and West Coast.
“I do think the fact that if we play footy in the one spot it would really help the West Australian teams, who have to travel all the time, we’d get to play in the one spot for five or six weeks,” he said.
“Which would be a great result given that usually we’re back and forth every second week.
“It would be interesting to see how our players would adapt to playing footy without having to travel so much.”

Mate we had the best media coach in the business for the last 8 years, didn't get us what we wanted.
Media performance is o/rated, it's like saying all Premiership players are the best players.
Steven Armstrong says hi!!

In what world was he best media coach?

His antics were pretty funny, but antagonising the media in that manner is a ****ing horrible idea due to their willingness to hold grudges (particularly at the West) and really didn't help him out in the end.

Geez people siding with the two-faced media over coaches giving them a bit of stick. Spare Me.

If you're aiming that at me than I'll just say there's a difference between saying the media is above reproach and saying that going hard at them at every oppurtunity is counter-productive rather than being a sign of being "the best media coach in the last 8 years."

Guys lets be honest with ourselves despite all the debate this hub is gonna be in Melbourne. People like eddie, jeff kennett aren't gonna allow it to be any different.

Honestly, the hub should be in Melbourne. I hate the Vic bias and all that, but when you have half the teams in the competition in the one city/state already, it just makes too much sense to have it where they are. Fans can't go along to the games anyway so from that standpoint it makes no difference to me.

If the number one goal is player safety and then footy, it should be wherever the facilities exist to quarantine the players. I read a post that said Vic players would still live at home which defeats the whole purpose of hubs.

If WA and other non Vic states have lower infection rates it makes more sense to hold it there. Especially if you consider the lower population density. If they have facilities to house all 18 teams and play games, fine. But that’s a hella ton of people and logistics. Those Melbourne fields would be destroyed after 144 games. Makes more sense to break it up into smaller units/hubs.

Of course we have the problem that the world will end/implode/be consumed by locusts if the GF is not played at the MCG, so we should probably factor that into the equation as well.

The first 3 or so Ross Lyon- Damian Barret interviews were so so (stuff we already knew) but this weeks is great, despite some lame questions from damo ross is as insightful and clear as he's ever been and is actually quite interesting when he doesn't have to 100% toe the club line.

Happened the Sunday night when restrictions were lifted that following day.

How does that make the news

Because it shows how dumb footballers can be!

When I was messaged by a mate about the trouble (no names mentioned) I immediately went to Luke Ryan (and probably Brendon Cox) in my mind. I bet a lot of you did as well!!

Main disappointment is Luke dragging a couple of young lads into trouble and fines!!

Yeah I've got no sympathy for them here, complete and unadulterated stupidity deserving of disciplinary actions for the stupidity alone.
