I am curious how people not only know Fyfe is not a good captain but that all these other captains are better?

I watch a lot of footy and I put my hand up and say I have absolutely no idea who is good and who isn't.

What is clear is these subjective articles clearly work as it has started debates amongst supporters. No wonder they keep writing them.

When is the last time Fyfe got in the head of an umpire? Not talking about milking frees, when did you ever see an umpire so scared of him that he gives us a few cheapies after Fyfe got in his head? Voss, Hodge, Selwood do/did it heaps.

Yes that's one (who the media talks about constantly) but what about the rest?

Other than people with various biases in the media telling who is great and who isn't, what should we be looking for to identify a great captain sitting in our lounge chairs at home (or even watching live)?

Good point. I played with Andrew Swallow at Easts and what made him a great captain was how he approached everything, first in for training days and busted his ass at every session. Was quite humbling tbh. He wasn’t a huge talker (never once swore either) but he just lead by example. So yeah, it’s impossible to get a feel for these things through a television.

Fyfe admitted in an interview that he used to think the best way to help the team was by being the best player in it. Said he had to learn how to lead. Like everything else he does he would have put everything into becoming the best at it he can.

Being a good leader isn't always about being the most liked.

Agree... Leadership is not a popularity contest and sometimes requires difficult conversations. Fyfe is a bit of an introvert I think so perhaps not super charismatic, but he comes across as a good bloke and genuine which personally I think is more important. Surely he inspires the team a lot through his ability and his dedication to his craft.

I too would love to know. I want details too.

At the moment the only way I can found out is if BT screams it at me on Friday night when Selwood, Bont etc do something 30 players a week do but it's only their version that is leadership.

I have no doubt there are good and bad leaders, I am not arguing that, I just want to know how everybody is deciding from here who is who.

Honestly if you asked me what Selwood does, I'd say he wins contested ball (and there are at least 20 equal/better players at it), tries to draw frees and bleeds. Is that leadership?

What else do they do? That might be moderately useful from time to time, but no way that is worth the 10+ years of Hodge and Selwood fapping we've endured.

How dare people criticize the great Nat Fyfe, we’re only allowed to critique and say negative things about fringe players on here.

Fyfe is so perfect. He is so great. Great leader. Wonderful kick. Not selfish in front of goals at all. Doesn’t enjoy the attention from the cameras. Doesn’t care about his hair and appearance on the footy field. Teammates love him. The Best. Teammates enjoy sacrificing their game so he can not defend, they love it. Did I mention he was perfect?
