This is going to be played a lot, isn’t it?

Langdon didn’t say per se that he didn’t enjoy playing under him. Just that he’s temperamental.. but sure West just twist the words

Anyway I’ll look forward to your thoughts on why we have one of the youngest lists in the comp but a tight salary cap

Who said we have a tight salary cap? The conversation started about how we were front loading contracts, which is what you do when you salary cap space.

Had to wait till we got the exact cap number before we could see what we could afford to offer Mundy last year

Not paying Cerra might help

Otherwise don’t see why it would be much improved from that

There were Vic media reports earlier this year that said we were pretty much full re salary cap.

But that we should have more room in coming years. Which sounds like we have been front loading our biggest contracts.

Which also might suggest one reason why we are so loath to trade Lobb -- we may have already paid him most of his money and now we want him to earn it rather than skip out

Barely seems to be any point in contracts these days
If a player wants out they let them go and hopefully get some compensation.
If they hold them to the contract the players just sook for their remaining term .

Any examples of players sooking?

Didn’t MCarthy sook and not play for a year when GWS wouldn’t release him ?
Fair point. But counter is Tom Papley not getting traded and becoming an All Australian. There is nothing to suggest players will always sook it up if the club denies a trade. Dunkley seems happy at the Dogs and was playing great footy pre injury.

Langdon credits Lyon for giving him a kick up the arse and making him what he is then spews that dribble after a QF win...

Yes over generalised , player trades in contract are fairly rare anyway aren’t they ?
how many per year would you say roughly ?
The main point was that contracts aren’t very sacred these days

Clubs are just as much to blame imo, but yes contracts are pretty useless.

These things are played out in the media far more than ever before. We've just had a cold war over Rory Lobb go on before our eyes where his manager and opposition clubs, probably even Fremantle themselves, have floated the prospect to the media who have then allowed FFC figures to reinforce the hardline message of high price to scare opposition clubs into what the club expects to consent to the transfer.

The game of life , nothing pretty about it .
I’d be surprised if Watson and Bewley don’t get picked up as depth pretty quickly.
Watson I thought did well in most games he was asked to fill a hole , would have kept him as depth but maybe wouldn’t be playing much with a full list so perhaps better for him to move on .
Bewley was ok but I think we have multiple options in that department.
Didn’t mind Duman either but the injury clouds were gathering.
Giro - yeh , Nup .

Well our cap has $3m of space in it over the next 4 plus whatever front loading we have done.

I hear they were all front loaded to the point we are only paying Fyfe $50 next year

Regarding Darcy, I think he could work best if we get his ruck time down a little. Even reduced by 10-15%. That would mean upping Lobb's contribution or adding in another player (Logue).
Meek, Darcy and Lobb. Don’t mind Meek. Has a crack, just need to tidy up his decision making coming out of the stoppages. Lobb shouldn’t play ruck for as much as possible
