They deserve zero credit. Screw em. Next year they'll be writing the same 'drop out of the 8' garbage as usual.
It's traditional.

This is very true, although you'd think they would wake up to themselves one day, some of the forecast top 8 at season start were ridiculousIt's traditional.

I'm quite happy for the media to write us off. It makes winning that much sweeter.
I'm the same but currently we are sitting 1st with no mention no talk no nothing. On footy assifield they ignored us and only spoke about the vic teams. They focus on a shit side/club like Melbourne and spend too much time on them and effectively saying that MFC is a lot more interesting and deserves more respect than the SSFC. And don't give me this BS about catering to an audience, last time i checked the demons were struggling with fans.
It's like those silly victorians are just waiting for us to do a melbourne 2004 and completely implode.
This just goes to prove that Sydney is a very bad word in Melbourne.
Yep it is for some reason which I have never fathomed it is really really important to some Melbournians that if you are from Sydney that you are reminded of this fact at each available opportunity. I lived there for some time and met my husband there. I was taken aback abit on arrival by the dislike of all things non -Victorian. Funny I thought I lived in Australia. My hubby was the same with all his sports AFL or VFL he still calls it, cricket and anything in which Australia is competing, he will reference all the players or competitors from Vic. Where ever I went my former place of residence (Sydney) was discussed at length with constant sneering and I was given a history lesson and update on things Victorian. It amuses and annoys me cause I cannot say that I sit around thinking I was born in NSW and must carry the banner for the state. In saying that my following the Swans for eternity has not been appreciated by my Victorian inlaws and hubby a "Footscray" supporter (not bloody Western Bulldogs, he says thankyou) figures I have never recovered from the drugs given whilst having my son and blames that for my Sydney barracking. It has been nearly 20 years now I would figure the drugs wore off some time ago.

Just want you to know we're not all like that!! I am Melbourne born and bred, however I dont hold any flag for Melbourne or Vic. I see Sydney as the most beautiful City in Australia, with possibly Perth second. However Sydney happens to be (has been for a long long time) the home of my favourite football team. Melbourne also has its good points, but I think you have to see any place for what it really is, not be biased because of where you grew up. I also lived in New South Wales for a while, specifically Coffs Harbour, where when meeting people I would regularly be referred to as a 'Mexican' due to coming from south of the border. Tiring of this ridicule once I thought I would beat someone to the punch by intruducing myself as a 'Mexican' - by surprise they then exclaimed that it was hard to believe with my fair hair and complexion, lol.
I agree with your experinces Nicky as i went through the same shit. At first i was "whaaa" but then i got fed up and fired back.
I was always met with the same bloody reply..thats it's us sydneysiders doing the hating and victorians are just defending themselves.
I lived in Sydney for all my life prior to that and in that time i don't recall any angst towards Victoria except for the code of AFL. But most times people would say that melbourne is a really nice city, charming and very euro but bloody cold. Thats about it.
And i just couldnt understand why the media down there always had to make reference to something being made in melbourne, just to reassure victorians.
Beautiful city, very weird and strange people.
